Up early for another willow weaving day. Hoping to make a little willow bark basket for my granddaughter to carry at the wedding. smile

Today I have been following DH in my car as he took his beloved classic MG to an obscure garage in the back of beyond (they always are!), driving him back to pick it up, then leaving him to it as he indulged in the mandatory walk round the car with the mechanic, trying to look knowledgable. He's just got back, all oily and happy. Bless him!
But these garages are the most boring places on earth, on a par with Halfords, The MG Owners' Shop (Aaaaggggghhhh!) and Kwik Fit to name but a few.

Now having a little toes up before preparing to go out this evening.

Sorting through my wardrobes for suitable clothes for my trip to Brussels. Quite pleased to find trousers that still fit despite much sitting around in the winter.
Have trouble with painful feet so decided to buy Fitflop laced up shoes so that I can do some walking. A very good purchase, they are extremely comfortable.

Greatnan Tue 08-May-12 15:06:32

Ariadne - my boring ex husband always insisted on my accompanying him to the garage or tyre fitters. I agree, the most boring places on earth!

Gaga - they were Quaker Oats, but bought in France.
You might be right about some god having it in for me, especially in view of what I have to say on another thread!

GoldenGran Tue 08-May-12 15:24:57

Ariadne put B&Q on the list.

Greatnan Tue 08-May-12 16:06:24

harrigan - if you get to do some really expensive shopping down Aveue Louise, give it my love! I used to live at the top end of it near the University.

Oh dear. Today I have been mainly not doing very much because of jet lag. Woke at about 3.30. I made some marmalade but I don't think it has set. Working out the amounts a bit beyond my addled brain. But at least i didn't burn myself. I have a cough which is not helping my state of being.
Lovely though to have a warmish day after the chilliness and gloom smile
And I might yet summon up the energy to do some of my seed planting etc.

Butternut Tue 08-May-12 16:43:08

Was wondering when the jet-lag would hit, Jess grin!

Toady I've been on tenterhooks rather - eldest son had the first of his (Bsc Maths) final exams today; the university has really let him down as his exams are badly 'bunched' and he's taking most of them this week. angry (His results will count for 90% of his final mark!) The other students mostly have at least a week between each of their exams.

Bags Tue 08-May-12 17:04:15

Maths is not the sort of thing you can do last minute revision for, ga. So long as he sleeps properly, he'll be fine.

glammanana Tue 08-May-12 17:15:03

ga plenty of rest and he will sail through them.

grannyactivist Tue 08-May-12 17:25:08

Bags his grade average over the three years of his course is about 90% (based on previous exams and coursework), so in theory he should do very well. They did alter the date of one of his exams because he originally had two timetabled for the same day, but the source of our disquiet is that the university had promised - at the beginning of the academic year when they changed the weighting to 10% course work and 90% to final exams - that the exams would NOT be bunched as they recognised that it can adversely affect results. It's only my son that's badly affected by the timetabling.

JessM Tue 08-May-12 17:30:05

But Bags is right, maths is not the sort of subject you can swot for. Not like History for instance. Be calm and trust in him. smile

flump Tue 08-May-12 17:36:37

Today I've made a card for our neice's 18th birthday. This month I've got another 3 birthday cards and 1 anniversary card to make. It's great for calming me and is an outlet for my limited artistic ability. smile

JessM Tue 08-May-12 18:21:59

No, its official, the marmalade has not set. Moral, if you do make marmalade while jet lagged don't just kinda guess the amounts of water and sugar...

grannyactivist Tue 08-May-12 18:43:41

Oh dear Jess, stick it back in the pan with a bit of lemon juice and give it another shot.
(Just spoke to son who said exam went very well. grin grin grin grin) Next ones on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Nail-biting emoticon)

Trying to cope with reaction to all the oil-seed rape pollen floating over roads from Lincolnshire to Kent!!
Seems it is worse in damp or humid conditions confused

Greatnan Tue 08-May-12 19:16:47

Well done, young activist!

Grannylin Tue 08-May-12 19:24:28

Nothing worse than the stench of oilseed rape....especially on a wet dog!
Anyone else getting fed up of the sight of sardines on the front page-they are starting to make me feel quite sick hmm

JessM Tue 08-May-12 19:44:36

I like sardines, but it is not a v enticing pic is it.
I am wondering what i did with the little bag of pips. It was one of those useful net bags you get with expensive clothes washing tablets (My DH falls prey to whatever Proctor and Gamble have just come up with... luminous glow in the dark sachets of double whammy detergent with added science stuff - he's on to them as soon as the hit the shelves. I buy the cheapest power in big boxes...)
I must have put it in the bin, but fear it might turn up somewhere unexpected.

specki4eyes Tue 08-May-12 19:45:01

Thank you for your thoughts and don't worry green I get very mixed up with the anagrams too - have to keep looking them up!
DH is fine, it was just a little op on his shoulder, but you still worry when they go under the knife. I emailed our friends this morning saying that he'd passed a peaceful night but that was all he passed, so I took the grapes this afternoon! From Lidl by the way and absolutely delicious - yes I sneaked some.
Ooh er I think its Greatnan who needs some nursing flowers But the thought of being FORCED to eat a large prawn and avocado salad made me LOL!

Annobel Tue 08-May-12 19:55:55

Sympathy, Jaycee! Oil-seed rape - the yellow peril! I can smell it from miles away and it makes me wheeze. So do wallflowers which are related to rape and other cruciferae. Not the best time of the year for me. sad

Greatnan Tue 08-May-12 20:03:06

We are in the slurry spreading season - fortunately they can't do it high up in the mountains where I walk!

No problem with the big salad - I love avocado and prawns - these were the big ones with the little tail that you use to hold them.

I am going to the pharmacy for a dressing tomorrow - not worth bothering my doctor as most of the skin is just red, but I have four cracking blisters, about an inch long! No pain though, so I don't really deserve any sympathy.

Bags Tue 08-May-12 20:08:58

The best sardines I ever ate were in a little Italian place in north Oxford, called the Luna Caprese.

Greatnan Tue 08-May-12 20:19:35

The best sardines I ever had were grilled on a beach in Portugal. I had always thought of sardines as the little things you get in tins, but these were real fish! I do have the little tinned ones at least once a week though, as oily fish is so good for your health. I chop them up with tomatoes and heat them in the microwave and put them on toast.

Grannylin Tue 08-May-12 20:25:49

I usually love sardines but they just look a bit cold and congealed.Best I had were at some Basque festival in St Jean de Luz. Greatnan you are very stoical- aren't you tempted to pop them....blisters, that is.
