Thought this might make a companion thread to Anybody else up yet.

So I'm away to brush my teeth, collect my book + reading glasses, and hope for a restful night.

So good night all. smile

Sadly fraud happens from most banks. Have been a victim twice. I wonder if there is a 'league table' for banks re fraud? that would be useful. It must be information that is collected and made available.

DH has also been a victim of fraud, nanaej you are right it would be interesting to find out if there is a "league table" for bank fraud, and indeed how many of us on here have been victim to it sad

Back from Brussels to find that I too have been the victim of fraud in Korea, exactly same day and time as DH. Banks reimburse but say the theft is done by claver people, I told them "they are not clever, they are criminals" Police were not interested said it was a banking issue not a police matter angry

Butternut Wed 23-May-12 07:09:57

angry for you harri - Apart from anything else it's all such a hassle.
Hope you get things sorted.

Bags Wed 23-May-12 09:15:03

Stopping one card, asking for another, and signing a form to say this, that and the other transactions are fraudulent is not that much of a hassle. Maybe my bank is just efficient. I also have a 'spare' credit card so I always have one that works. Credit cards are safer than debit cards for most things.

Rotten luck though, harri. I hope it is sorted quickly.

glammanana Wed 23-May-12 09:26:01

Oh harri what a let down by the response got from the police they could at least have been sympathetic,we had one of our cards scammed last year to the tune of £4.300 and I was under the impression that the bank usually got in touch with regard to such a large amount but they never did,we had it refunded but have been very very careful as to where we use it.flowers for you harri

Annobel Wed 23-May-12 09:47:46

It does leave you with a sick feeling, harri. When it happened to me I was in NZ and the bank wouldn't send the new card to me there so I had to use my credit card instead, thus incurring interest. £1300 of goods was bought from Curry's online and delivered to an address in London. It was my impression that such fraud is reported by the bank to the police, but they never contacted me. When I go to Europe I now use a pre-loaded Euro card, though I always take my credit card with me - just in case.

Annobel Wed 23-May-12 09:59:31

PS. The upshot of this situation for me is that the bank blocks the debit card if I use it for an unusually large payment - such as when I had to pay my garage for a new exhaust system at the car's last MOT. Luckily they knew me well enough to trust me to come in with a cheque the following day. But it is embarrassing! blush

Bags Wed 23-May-12 10:21:59

Suggestion (to avoid that problem, anno): pay the garage (or whatever) with your credit card and then use the cheque to pay the bill on your credit card. You can do this straight away (by cheque or online) or wait for the credit card bill to arrive.

Credit card transactions are much safer than debit card ones.

harrigran Wed 23-May-12 18:12:56

The fraud took place 4 days before I left England and the first I knew was when I tried to pay for curtains in John Lewis and the card was refused. Nobody from the bank had made any effort to contact me and when I stormed in they said they knew I would contact them when I was unable to use my card. I had to queue with my passport to get cash over the counter because neither of us had a card. Apparently details are sold from Indian call centres for s little as a few pence per card.

Annobel Wed 23-May-12 18:39:34

My bank sent me a text asking me to contact them. I'm pretty sure that my card details were stolen in San Francisco on my way to NZ, when I went to book tours to redwoods and wineries. They didn't use chip and pin, but took the card to put it through the old-fashioned carbon copy system.

..posted early because that's exactly what I want to do! Feeling pretty tired. Tents are up on the top lawn and looking very good as a back drop to my stone wall border that divides the two levels. The plants are doing their thing so I am pleased.

Not many more moons to go before the big day. smile

Anagram Thu 24-May-12 13:10:12

So glad it's all going to plan, Butter! Fingers crossed for the day itself - I'm sure everything will go swimmingly after all your hard work. smile
