Tempur mattress - yay or nay?

We desperately need a new mattress and can't decide if a Tempur one would be good or not. I have heard conflicting things, in particular that they are very heating. Also, I am quite a chunky lady, and I have visions of a "beached whale" being unable to turn over! However, I do have a bad back and also my grumpy old man has hip problems, so for that it would be good. What do you all feel please?

Should have said, OH has no problems getting out of bed, but is a large and heavy ex rugby player.

We bought a memory foam topper and it came rolled up in a box and went in the car fine.
Our bed is very high and we have no problem getting out - there is no pushing to get up - I just swing my legs over the side and stand up - all very speedy - we get out running!! Our topper is on a sprung mattress.

"As we now have 2x 4 ft (don't want to confuse you with metric, lol)"

So instead you confuse me with 'Imperial' Mickey Mouse measures!

mamie, the topper can be vacuum packed. I brought mine home in a Toyota Yaris. I think it was rolled up. I bought it from a shop based in a farm where there's a shop selling curtains and fabrics.

My supplier cut it to size for me as I have a small double bed.

Thank you. Will fit it in with the Christmas shopping, marmite, suet, man-sized tissues etc when we are in the UK next week!

mamie Just to clarify it was the idea of a complete deep "memory foam" mattress that I think could be difficult to get up from, the topper on a proper sprung one sounds fine. night night moon
