Good Morning all!
So…..what are we all up to on this beautiful sunny bank holiday? ☀️
A terrible crime unpunished!! Imho 🙄
What are you avoiding doing in this heat?
Robert Kenyon, Reform's candidate for Makerfield. Would you let him in your house?
Good Morning all!
Good morning from me too. Warmest night so far this year. Slept well. Possible thunderstorm building. I love thunderstorms.
Oh I see - AEUP reached the 1000 posts limit. Mornin all. I have had a lot of viruses and meetings lately so looking forward to a whole day without either - take a bit of exercise, tick off some of the things on my long list of tasks. And a whole weekend without viruses or MIL! First one with DH for about 2 months (since before I travelled). Sunny and breezy forecast. I'm thinking walks in the Chilterns and maybe take in a garden or two.
G'dy to all (just practising ready for Oz!). We have a haar this morning - hope it clears in time for me to see a large part of an aircraft carrier being towed up the Forth on its way to Rosyth. That appears to be my excitement for the day
Good morning! Glorious day here, had the best sleep for about a year and my sore throat virusy thing has gone so I feel good! Got my neighbour's washing on the line (her washing machine is sick) and I'm ready for anything!
Hope you all have a good day.
Specki just read the other thread, I'm so sorry to hear about your son and dil. Thinking of you and ((hugs)) xx
Good morning everyone, its very hazy here this morning, I am covered in midges bites that's what I get for being in the garden last night, but the evening air was lovely after all the heat through the day, but those little beasties got me
speckie sending you a big {{hug}}
Mornin' all.
First night back in my own bed and I wake up with a headache! Ate and drank with impunity on hols, couple of glasses of
back in Blighty..... do you think they add something to imported wine?
P.S. I DID feel the earth move!
Italian earthquake OGM?
G'day Gally mate. Sounds like an interesting thing to watch eh? When are you off?
I discovered a new way to make long haul pass more easily. Watch a TV series. I started watching The Good Wife on the way back and got hooked. Watched about 18 episodes! Wonderful stuff. US TV at its best.
Had to buy the rest and we are now watching series 2. It is more relaxing than watching films and more absorbing - you don't have to work out what is going on or adjust to different accents or anything.
jess yes! We were about 60 miles south, in Florence! I felt my bed ( sort of attached single!) moving, accused the OG of scratching violently, this was denied. I realised that Italy was known for seismic activity ( note to GNers, I am not!) so calmly stated.... I think it's an earthquake! Ex -Geography teacher friend very envious. Sorry for the people nearer the epi-centre tho'
Buongiorno Gally enjoy your trip!
Thanks OGM - not going til July but getting excited - got to squeeze in a visit to Cyprus before then!
Good idea Jess will bear it in mind although determined to get into Oz time as soon as I leave Heathrow, so will have lunch, then sleep until Hong Kong (Oh yes?).Maybe manage to stay awake from HK to Sydney........ If I do, it'll be a first
Specki, just read your message on the old thread. I'm so sorry about you son and his wife. You must be devastated. How is he feeling about it?
Morning specki I am so sorry to hear your news. I hope they can deal with it amicably and you are all able to keep on as friendly a footing as possible. Take care
glass , I had more than midges to contend with! A huge May Bug shot through the open door just as I was preparing for bed. I had never encountered one before. It was about 1.5 inches long and flew around the room crashing against the walls and lamp, eventually ending up on the floor and crawling into the pet-proof mouse trap I had set to catch a 'gift' from my cats. This was lucky because I couldn't have gone to bed with it flying around the house so noisily. It didn't spring the trap but was injured so I had to dispose of it.

Morning all! Is the other thread full? Suppose it must be! Posted my earliest yet on it, at about 1.00 am. But fortunately got back to sleep. Beautiful, beautiful day here.
Annobel I listened to him sobbing uncontrollably yesterday on the phone from a distance of 1000 miles away - imagine. He has committed no matrimonial crime - except that when she says 'jump' he often stays seated. She has cobbled up some issues which have annoyed her. She is out drinking and clubbing most weekends, while he stays home with the children.
Sadly, I can't go over this weekend because its a birthday weekend for his brothers' twins and I'd be afraid to spoil that. I'd already booked my flights for a special stay with those two, in two weeks time.
Yes I will of course have to tread very carefully but I feel I have the right to hear her side of things. If for no other reason, but that she has spent months (apparently) appraising everyone else we know, of her issues.
This morning I'm a Mother Lion and I'm letting myself be that, but in private, if you all take my meaning
Thank you everyone for your thoughts, they help so much. This morning my DH (who is his stepfather and not the most diplomatic of people) said, "isnt it a beautiful morning" I wish I could have agreed.
Oh dear, specki so sorry for your problems. Best wishes and hope to you.
I had a great day yesterday with my sister at Waterperry. We wandered round the plants - and didn't buy any - had a meal and looked at the museum.
I've come back with a bit of detective work to try for the man at the little museum - to find out what one of the Makers Marks, a lead plaque they have there, is! However I find there are thousands online and I need more infomation, but I have his number. I was able to tell him more about a coin they have there, a 1797 2p piece. Saw it last time and looked it up.
Then we went on to Oxford and visited my daughter too.
Now heading off for my two hospital appointments, first at the Churchill and then - much later - at the JR...........will take lunch and spend time at Headington Library......bye for now.
Men just don't get it do they, Specki. They compartmentalize.
I wish I could.
Dear specki this is how my lovely son was this time last year. He left as his ex was abusive, demanding and determined to harm him. He tried to stay because of his son, but when she started behaving so badly in front of their child, he left. He was very distressed and in need of a lot of emotional and practical support, especially when she stopped him from seeing his son, who was 11 then.
A year on and things are so different. He is happy, has a new home, sees his son regularly and has built up his business again after being unable to concentrate on work for over 3 months.
He will come through it and it will be tough but when family and friends remember to keep supporting as much as they can, it really does help. I hope he comes out of this stronger and happier.
Nice morning here. Just going to start dishwasher and put on loaf
Great to hear you had a day out oxon - Waterperry is lovely garden isn't it, and interesting history with training women to be horticulturalists.
Chores done. Now sitting outside with my coffee.
I'm not 'sub rosa ' but 'sub vina' as my patio is shaded by a grapevine!
Can't keep me away from the grape you know
It's so nice to have a day off when it's not raining!
Sun shining ...but still recovering from being confronted in public car park last night by guy high on drugs after money!!
Think I'm having a stay at home day today.
Just back from routine mammogram. All OK, but the radiographer said that the x-rays were a bit what sounded like "eclu" (only word I can find in the French dictionary seems to be to do with lock-keepers so I can't have heard that right). I didn't know what it meant and she took another x-ray and then said I had to wait for the doctor to do an ultrasound. Only about 10 minutes, but felt like three hours. All OK though. So grateful for mammograms, but not my favourite sort of start to the day!
Mamie - might it have been touffu - dense, thick.? (Usually used in the foliage sense though)!
Glad all is OK!
