Dear specki this is how my lovely son was this time last year. He left as his ex was abusive, demanding and determined to harm him. He tried to stay because of his son, but when she started behaving so badly in front of their child, he left. He was very distressed and in need of a lot of emotional and practical support, especially when she stopped him from seeing his son, who was 11 then.

A year on and things are so different. He is happy, has a new home, sees his son regularly and has built up his business again after being unable to concentrate on work for over 3 months.

He will come through it and it will be tough but when family and friends remember to keep supporting as much as they can, it really does help. I hope he comes out of this stronger and happier.

I had a great day yesterday with my sister at Waterperry. We wandered round the plants - and didn't buy any - had a meal and looked at the museum.
I've come back with a bit of detective work to try for the man at the little museum - to find out what one of the Makers Marks, a lead plaque they have there, is! However I find there are thousands online and I need more infomation, but I have his number. I was able to tell him more about a coin they have there, a 1797 2p piece. Saw it last time and looked it up.
Then we went on to Oxford and visited my daughter too.

Now heading off for my two hospital appointments, first at the Churchill and then - much later - at the JR...........will take lunch and spend time at Headington Library......bye for now.

Annobel I listened to him sobbing uncontrollably yesterday on the phone from a distance of 1000 miles away - imagine. He has committed no matrimonial crime - except that when she says 'jump' he often stays seated. She has cobbled up some issues which have annoyed her. She is out drinking and clubbing most weekends, while he stays home with the children.

Sadly, I can't go over this weekend because its a birthday weekend for his brothers' twins and I'd be afraid to spoil that. I'd already booked my flights for a special stay with those two, in two weeks time.

Yes I will of course have to tread very carefully but I feel I have the right to hear her side of things. If for no other reason, but that she has spent months (apparently) appraising everyone else we know, of her issues.

glass , I had more than midges to contend with! A huge May Bug shot through the open door just as I was preparing for bed. I had never encountered one before. It was about 1.5 inches long and flew around the room crashing against the walls and lamp, eventually ending up on the floor and crawling into the pet-proof mouse trap I had set to catch a 'gift' from my cats. This was lucky because I couldn't have gone to bed with it flying around the house so noisily. It didn't spring the trap but was injured so I had to dispose of it.

jess yes! We were about 60 miles south, in Florence! I felt my bed ( sort of attached single!) moving, accused the OG of scratching violently, this was denied. I realised that Italy was known for seismic activity ( note to GNers, I am not!) so calmly stated.... I think it's an earthquake! Ex -Geography teacher friend very envious. Sorry for the people nearer the epi-centre tho'

I discovered a new way to make long haul pass more easily. Watch a TV series. I started watching The Good Wife on the way back and got hooked. Watched about 18 episodes! Wonderful stuff. US TV at its best.
Had to buy the rest and we are now watching series 2. It is more relaxing than watching films and more absorbing - you don't have to work out what is going on or adjust to different accents or anything.

First night back in my own bed and I wake up with a headache! Ate and drank with impunity on hols, couple of glasses of back in Blighty..... do you think they add something to imported wine?

Oh I see - AEUP reached the 1000 posts limit. Mornin all. I have had a lot of viruses and meetings lately so looking forward to a whole day without either - take a bit of exercise, tick off some of the things on my long list of tasks. And a whole weekend without viruses or MIL! First one with DH for about 2 months (since before I travelled). Sunny and breezy forecast. I'm thinking walks in the Chilterns and maybe take in a garden or two.
