soop Tue 16-Oct-12 13:49:56

whitewave What an awful night for you and your husband. As you say, we are very lucky to have the NHS. Your husband will have the treatment he deserves. He's in good care. You relax and try to get some much needed sleep. You are in my thoughts. flowers

Elegran Tue 16-Oct-12 13:15:29

Gagagran Sleep on your side or front, not back.
Open a jar of Vick and hold it under your nose for a while before going to sleep. I find it does dry up the nose a bit. Put the lid back on and keep it handy for if when you wake in the night. Once you can actually smell the Vick again, your cold is improving and the end of it is in sight.

Even better, transfer a small amount of Vick to an empty jar and use that. Then you are not breathing germs into the full jar ready to re-infect you later.

Results of Hot Toddy trials : undetermined

I cannot give full marks to any recipe! My horrible cold is still with me, albeit abating slightly, despite trying different ones. In fact I think a nice mug of tea has been the most soothing thing. brew

Someone said to me that a cold takes a week if you treat it and 7 days if you don't so I'm hoping for a big improvement later this week. It would be nice to sleep later than 5am and not waken up "drowning"!

Glad you can relax a bit, whitewave, now that someone else has taken over dealing with the immediate problems and care. Be kind to yourself. A cosy slobbing day sounds like a good idea to me. flowers

How much woudl that have cost so far?

Or it might be some form of arrhythmia. A heartbeat that's too fast is called tachycardia. A heartbeat that's too slow is called bradycardia
During an arrhythmia, the heart may not be able to pump enough blood to the body. This can cause symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, or fainting.
Or he might be dehydrated following a viral infection as others have suggested.
Fitting a temporary pacemaker will help until a more complete diagnosis is made. Either way I hope your husband is recovering and you too.

kittylester Tue 16-Oct-12 10:03:15

(((hugs))) Whitewave hope you find MrW much better today - please let us know. flowers

As has been said on here lots of times, the NHS still comes up trumps when it really counts.

Now, have some cupcake or something to go with your brew

Elegran Tue 16-Oct-12 09:51:36

And he will be peeing like a champion.

Elegran Tue 16-Oct-12 09:50:21

Whitwave I agree with Jane, dehydration is probably behind it. DH had an episode of that about a year before he died, while on chemotherapy. He was taking various drugs and looked and felt increasingly tired and weary - not surprisingly. Then felt so awful he went to bed.

GP was called - they are obliged to see you or visit same day you ask if you are on chemo - did not do a lot. Called in a different GP next day - did not do a lot more. Third day, yet another, who did a more thorough examination and said heart arythmic probably from dehydration.

Straight into ambulance, admitted to ward and put on intravenous fluid for several days. He was quite poorly, but the right treatment meant he stabilised and came home after a week or so. His heart seemed not to cause any more problems after that.

Bear up, Whitewave at least it is being looked into thoroughly now.

PS You may find he needs oedema socks once he comes home - all that fluid they pump in has to go somewhere!

annodomini Tue 16-Oct-12 09:46:39

Thinking of you and Mr W, Whitewave. I hope today sees a silver lining. ((((hugs))))

Gagagran Tue 16-Oct-12 09:44:19

Whiteweave don't forget to eat! When my DH had peritonitis in March this year I could not eat - just so knotted up in my stomach. Then you get digestive problems and the tiredness takes over so you feel exhausted. Do try and nibble something - and drink too. (I got dehydrated because I forgot to drink also). Worry at such times is all consuming. Keep strong. flowers

janeainsworth Tue 16-Oct-12 08:44:01

Whitewave I do sympathise as I had a similar experience earlier this year when MrA collapsed in a restaurant, was rushed to hospital and had an overnight stay. His diagnosis was dehydration, so less worrying, but even so I felt shattered and shocked for days.
Just look after yourself and don't try to do too much. I do hope MrW makes a speedy recovery and is home with you soonflowers

eGJ Tue 16-Oct-12 08:42:57

Marelli Tue 16-Oct-12 07:44:03
