My DD has just phoned me because she wanted to thank us for our "unfailing support" in bringing up her children and for always supporting her in her way of doing things and not criticising. I was so touched.
She had just been to a christening and had observed some GParents telling their children what to do and what not to do and she thought she was lucky that we do not do this.
It was lovely that she took the trouble to tell us this rather than just thinking it.
But she does not know how often we have to bite our tongues!! - but she is doing a great job her way.
It reinforced for me how important it is to stand back, even though it is hard sometimes. I think that is the most important lesson for us GPs to learn. I know I would have done my nut if my mum had started telling me what to do!!
