Don't know what came over me. I have a broken washing machine that I have put out into the back garden so that the local council can come and take it away for re-cycling or whatever they do with them. It has to be easily accessible but not in front of your house or on the pavement. I put it to the side, not in the middle of the lawn. Paid them £12 to do so two weeks ago and still waiting, not really concerned, they are usually a bit slow. This afternoon a man who lives down the street came and knocked on my door and said it was a bloody disgrace having a broken washing machine in the back garden, that this was a nice estate and not 'Shameless' and if it wasn't moved in the next 24 hours he would report me to the council for creating an eyesore! I said two words to him , the second was 'off' and the first had four letters, then I shut the door in his face. I just flipped and dont understand it. I never swear and am usually quite laid back.

Biker does it work on DHs?

glammanana Tue 19-Jun-12 14:13:02

frieda I sympathise with you about "loosing it" it can happen to all of us sometimes,I have something happen over the past few months we have a new neighbour moved in downstairs who is the most objectionable person I have ever met, when he first moved in he helped himself to my pot plants in the front and placed some of them in his garden, the reason being he was under the impression the plants could be shared between the gardens, needless to say he got short shrift from me,he also objected to us having friendly gatherings in the rear garden as it disturbed his 40 winks in the afternoon he is your original "Mr Grumpy" I am sure his life would be more plrasent if he was a wee bit more polite with neighbours.biker I think I will borrow your stick ??

bikergran Tue 19-Jun-12 14:41:10

AlisonMA lol not sure can't try it on mine! but feel freeeee lol grin

kittylester Tue 19-Jun-12 17:57:52

biker I could have done with your stick this afternoon for my 'run in ' with the less than helpful man in Boots Opticians (can't even be bothered to think about apostrophes!!) I knew it was a mistake to go somewhere that offered 2 pairs of specs for the price of one - should have stuck with the independent one! Grrrrrrrr!

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 17:59:40

Should've gone to Specsavers.....wink

kittylester Tue 19-Jun-12 18:01:08

I'm sticking to the one who owns the business and therefore has a vested interest. angry

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 18:03:32

Sorry! blush

kittylester Tue 19-Jun-12 18:08:19

Sorry anagram didn't mean to bite your head off but I'm just so cross about the lack of service and the shrugging of shoulders!! While I was waiting for the lack of service I heard the opticians complaining about how much their dental treatment cost, so my visit didn't start well!!

Going for a wine or winewinewine to calm down. grin

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 18:12:24

That's OK, kittylester! I'm not a big fan of Boots' services either.

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 18:12:53

Practically TT are we?grin

merlotgran Tue 19-Jun-12 19:00:15

Pity he doesn't live next door, Frida, then you could go the whole hog. I could lend you a couple of noisy cockerels and my DGs would be happy to bounce up and down on their trampoline all day. grin

kittylester Tue 19-Jun-12 20:36:47

jeni if we are allowed 3 drinks per week I think I'm on to September 2015 already! grin

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 20:37:55

I'm into the next century! And that's just tonight!

Bags Tue 19-Jun-12 20:44:52

kitty we used a private optician in Guildford and he was not only better but cheaper than the multiples. Now we use a private one here and they said neither of us needs new specs.

kittylester Wed 20-Jun-12 11:04:39

Alison we have always used a private optician but were seduced by the two for one offer at Boots. It was a silly idea! And I think we will have to go back to the proper one sooner rather than later. Still angry

AlisonMA Wed 20-Jun-12 11:11:33

Kitty we used the multiples but had so many problems we switched. Give me a small private company any day. Good luck next time.

nelliedeane Wed 20-Jun-12 15:44:06

blush I worked for Boots opticians ....duck....for years....and I agree with you ,I was never popular with management as I firmly believed that they put their spiel about being caring health professionals, and it was all sales oriented ,we had targets to ac hive sales wise, although not commission based, our salary was performance related, staff where in house trained with the exception of optometrists who where mainly locums, who where paid huge amounts,I was expected to measure and dispense specs with very little training,in the very competitive field of optics which was fashion based, people with specific complicated prescriptions and requirements with frames where not catered for, they so blatantly catered for designer frames and lenses.....guess what since I left 9 years ago I have never set foot in there again....

Grandmanorm Wed 20-Jun-12 16:10:57

In defense of Boots (sorry folks) the one in Perth is great and the service is excellent. The staff are quick, polite and helpful. I was there on Monday and was delighted with the optician and the care I was given.

As for swearing at that neighbour, good for you frida, sometimes you just have to let fly, especially to pernickety ones.

Greatnan Wed 20-Jun-12 16:17:27

I was surprised when I went to a large Boots near my sister's house in Manchester after I had scalded my chest and they had neither large dressings nor anything to clean the area. I think a lot must depend on the individual manager.

granjura Wed 20-Jun-12 16:32:06

Hmmm - but you were supposed to go to a nurse or doctor to change the dressing, no? Arggh smile

Our local boots was great I have to say. About 10 years ago I was in town with our new school French assistante. We went for coffee and I suddenly felt very sick and disoriented- as if totally drunk. The poor girl had to hold me all the way to Boots and she sat me on a chair by the Dispensary and asked for the Pharmacist to come and talk to me. Turned out I had an attack of Mesnieres, and the pharmacist called my GP to get a prescription for Buscopam over the phone, then called a taxi to take us home- and when it arrived helped me to the taxi. He then phoned later to find out if I was OK.
