Happy to log on after a short break in London. I've missed you all. Have masses to catch up on. Will need to return later to tell you all about our trip. For all the pain of the journey down, it was a marvellous treat and we've returned with some sooper memories.

Lots of lovely birthday mentions are appearing on this thread - GNHQ would it be totally impossible to have a sort of 'Today's Diary' put onto the top bar (with Active, I'm on, Watching etc) with 'today's birthdays' included rather than discovering them among threads?
Perhaps there would be too many?
Perhaps some GNetters wouldn't want their birthdays published?
What do others think?
Happy birthdays to all of the above mentioned youngsters!!! flowers

Sbagram...I like the idea of a 'today's birthday' notice. It's good to wish another member a special, happy day. Anyone celebrating today...HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you...flowers

sbagran & soop good idea; we might not like to amit age though! flowers to all GNs for July 28 birthdays.

yogagran Sat 28-Jul-12 22:03:26

Good suggestion sbagran - but not our ages, just the day. Lovely to be remembered on our special days but not reminded of how old we are!

greenmossgiel Sun 29-Jul-12 07:57:48

What a good idea - I keep missing birthdays until it's often too late to wish someone a happy one!
Today I shall be off to Germany for a few days - on a coach/ferry as we're afraid of flying! My feet will be like balloons by the time I get there so have a nice pair of flight socks to keep the swelling down. I'm going to look a cracker with my cut-offs and flight socks, aren't I? grin Back on Friday - have a happy week everyone! smile

Glass - thank you for your good wishes. We still can't believe we have been married for forty years today. I have some fond memories of that day - the weather was absolutely glorious; my cousin was staying overnight the night before and we went, at about seven o'clock, to the local recreation ground so he could exercise his red setter - we ended up playing on the swings and roundabout! I also remember that half way through the afternoon my face hurt because I was smiling so much.

Some sad memories too: my mother had died the year before and my dad spent most of the ceremony crying.

So many years, so many memories - and my two lovely children and two grandchildren around me today.

Today I have come over from Sandhurst to Didcot where I am cat-sitting, though the said cats regard me as a complete interloper. Yesterday I came back with DS1 and family from Suffolk where we were so lucky to have the best week of the summer. Superb camp site near Lowestoft, beautifully kept and behind a wonderful beach with remarkably few visitors. DS1 did his 45 - 50 minutes serious swim every day and one day I even ventured into the North Sea myself. Brrrrr! Two highlights: played bingo for the first time ever (!) and won £30 - DS won a quarter share of £30 so we made a good profit; and later we also won the quiz, another £30 which bought a lot of drinks. Talking of which, my DiL plied me with rosé, G&T, alcoholic ginger beer, shandy.... so lavishly all week that I have to detox this week. On Thursday we spotted a yellow budgie sitting on a tent and a friend captured it in a child's fishing net. The GC made posters which they put up all over the site but nobody claimed it. They decided to take it home and DiL went on Ebay and bought a cage! Then - you've guessed it - the poor thing turned up its toes. It was an ex-budgie! So what to do with the cage? Need you ask? Today they went out and bought TWO budgies, now known as Brian and Sylvie.
Arrived in Didcot house to find myself in the middle of a building site. Insurance work had to be done - to remedy the damage done when the demons boys made the bath overflow one day when they were bored. And DS2 has taken on the builder to do several other jobs which are a bit behind. I couldn't use the loo for hours!
Am trying to find out what I've missed in the past week. Have you all been behaving as impeccably as usual?

Grannylin Sun 29-Jul-12 22:00:38

Hello Annobel Great to have you back, we missed you.So you really did swim in the sea this year- join the elite clan, brave girl flowers
