Ariadne - so pleased your sale is going through so well and hope that continues to completion. Have you found somewhere in Devon? This is the stressful time isn't it? Waiting for the date then the call to say it has all gone through! I can imagine how busy you will be at present planning your new location and all the attendant changes of address etc. that one must do.

It is now 5 weeks since we moved and it has been "action packed" with unpacking and finding a place for everything and also getting in trades men for various odd things we needed doing, but the stress levels are back to normal thankfully. We have had no breakages but have lost DH's electric shave and toothbrush chargers and also one of my handbags somewhere along the way. He keeps saying "Well where did you pack them?" - which is quite an irritating question given the huge amount of packing (and labelling of same) I did! Men!

Keep us posted on progress - you are in my thoughts!

Drove through Poynton yesterday Annobel and was impressed by the new road. Don't imagine you feel it was worth alL that disruption though ? Capitals developing a life of their own today.

gagagran Yes, still stressful! But, although I'm trying to be cautious, I keep planning! yes, we have found a house, and fortunately (for us) they had no other offers as our first lot went pear shaped, so it's all on track, if a bit behind us in completing. Our stuff will go into storage and we're happy to be nomadic for a few weeks if necessary. DS2 has a big house in Cheltenham so we can stay there if needed.

(DGD3 has told all her friends that Nannie and Grandpa are coming to live with them!)

Well I am going to have a quiet day today after having such a busy one yesterday. We went to visit friends in Whitby who we haven't seen for nearly thirty years. They are the parents of a boy my husband went to school with and we have been meaning to go to see them for ages (kept on thinking we would get "the letter" if we were not careful, saying that one of them had passed away as he is in his 90s and she is in her 80s.)

What a lovely day we had - I am afraid we just turned up on their doorstep but they made us so welcome and we had a lovely time reminiscing about the great weekends we used to have with them before we were married.

Whitby was a revelation as it has changed so much since we were last there - and it was absolutely heaving. Afterwards we drove to Sandsend where we met my DD's in laws who were staying in the area for a few days. It was late when we got home and it wasn't long before we headed to bed.

DH is off with his cycling buddies for the day today, so I will do a spot of housework and then go to buy some wool so I can knit something else for my new GD.

Mishap - we could easily recognise them, but they had difficulty with us! Interestingly enough, the male friend looked very, very old when we got there, but perked up amazingly during our visit and looked very much as he had looked all those years ago.

Gherkins! Love them, when I was pregnant I had jars of them everywhere. Even in my desk at the surgery!

Not recognising reminds me of when I went to see my mother in Scotland. My bro arranged to pick me up from the airport! We hadn't seen each other for about 10 years! We didn't recognise each other. It was only when we were the only two people left in the arrivals hall did we connect!

It was probably cheap wine, just tasted like vinegar! I always went off coffee onto tea when pregnant!

It said vinegar on the bottle. The smell of coffee made me sick. In fact I was sick several times a day for seven months. Was prescribed medication. First son born 51 years ago with a hole in his throat [it leaked saliva, since been repaired] and very strange joints. Ran around Oakham in shorts [for charity] and raised a decent sum for his efforts. Spectators bemused by his wibbly wobbly joints!

Annobel I can't see your report anywhere, but I'd just like to say that a good day was had, lunch at Waterperry and a wander round the plant centre and the little museum, and a lot of chat on many subjects including a lot in common....thanks for coming Annobel.

Alie - I did report on this thread yesterday. I have been traipsing around Didcot doing various errands for my family and the builder has been here again, doing mainly the insurance claim repairs. Everything still very chaotic as there are still a couple of finishing touches. Thank goodness I am going home tomorrow.
Thanks for driving me out yesterday. I enjoyed the trip and your company. I shall be back.
