Happy to log on after a short break in London. I've missed you all. Have masses to catch up on. Will need to return later to tell you all about our trip. For all the pain of the journey down, it was a marvellous treat and we've returned with some sooper memories.

Home from a suprisingly sunny holiday in Croyde, Devon where we spent a lively week with both DDs and the 4DGCs! [happy] Sadly baby Stanley , 10 weeks, got chicken pox so some activities curtailed sad

On a fab boat trip across our local 2 lakes in warm wonderful sun. Good meal, with great friends from the UK. Wonderful (Lake Neuchatel and Lake Morat).

whenim64 Sat 04-Aug-12 09:18:03

Sounds perfect granjura. Do you think you could push some of that sunshine over to the UK? smile

harrigran Sat 04-Aug-12 10:01:00

nanaej how awful for the baby, 10 weeks is very young to have chicken pox. Glad you found some sunshine in UK.

whenim64 Sat 04-Aug-12 10:31:09

Hope the baby soon recovers nanaej. My daughter had chicken pox at 3 months and was surprisingly easy to look after, compared with her fractious 3 year old brother, who was unhappy and itchy and just wanted to sit in a cool bath all the time.

nanaej my DGS1 had chicken pox and three months and was a bit grumpy but nothing like my other two DGS 18 ths and 3 1/2 who have it now they have had a terrible time, eldest almost through it but little one still in the throws, detol baths soothed them.

GillieB Sat 04-Aug-12 11:08:16

One of my friends said that you can get some sort of gel these days which eases the itch of chickenpox - she couldn't remember what it was called, but I guess the chemist would know.

I am awaiting the arrival of my DG (his parents are going out for lunch) and then we will drop him back to their house before going off the Men's Football Quarter Finals at St. James's Park for five o'clock.

I have done a mountain of ironing already this morning - and I have been watching the Women's Triathlon - well done to them all.

soop Sat 04-Aug-12 14:49:44

GillieB Enjoy your day. (((hugs))) to the rest of you lot. Back to the tennis. grin

Anagram Sat 04-Aug-12 15:35:31

Welcome back, green - I wondered where you'd got to! smile

greenmossgiel Sat 04-Aug-12 15:38:24

Anagram thank you! smile

jeni Sat 04-Aug-12 15:45:50

Dd used oatmeal baths for dgd. It seemed to work!

crimson Sat 04-Aug-12 16:18:57

There's a lot of chickenpox around at the moment. Spoke to someone the other day whose daughter had caught it twice [which I didn't realise was possible].

Annobel Sat 04-Aug-12 16:33:01

DGS had it as a baby, very badly - he had spots on his eyeballs and the doctor gave him some kind of anti-viral medication.

greenmossgiel Sat 04-Aug-12 16:35:31

My great-grandson and his half-brother and cousin (all under 5) all had it when they were on holiday.....all covered in spots/calamine in a caravan! All ok now, though, thankfully! grin

whenim64 Sat 04-Aug-12 16:47:09

Yes, jeni Aveeno colloidal oatmeal for baths makes a lovely milky cooling, soothing water that really helps for skin rashes and chicken pox.

Incredible thunderstorms here! I'm glad I live on the top. I'll bet the village is flooded!

Ariadne Sat 04-Aug-12 17:31:29

Beautiful day here! DH has spent most of the morning in the study with occasional forays to ask "Where is..." He's dealing with all the paperwork that is now flooding in from solicitors, estate agents etc.

Me, I have attacked the zip up wardrobes at the back of the garage (inspired by German MiL2) and been ruthless - apart from my one, real ball dress. Midnight blue silk, full skirt, full length, lowish neck, little matching bolero....I cannot chuck it yet. Can I? Please say no!

Annobel Sat 04-Aug-12 17:39:31

Thunder has been rolling around here but hasn't come to much.

Ariadne, no, you must keep that dress. It sounds extremely glamorous and you never know when you are going to need a posh frock!

Ariadne Sat 04-Aug-12 18:28:06

Oh, thank you, Annobel! It is so lovely...I have kept a couple of less formal ones too which come into the lovely category!

jeni Sat 04-Aug-12 18:58:41

ariadne if it's a size 18 I think should get rid of it. Theres a very dump in portishead on your way to devonz, grin

Ariadne Sat 04-Aug-12 19:18:43

No, it's not! It's a 16 but taken in on the bust/ waist. It still fits well. grin And how glad am I that it does- it's only two years old. Would make beautiful retro cocktail dress for DGD1 (16, 5ft 10") one day. In my dreams.

I mean, when I think how many "retro" things I chucked out in our many moves..wedgie sandals, maxi dresses..

Cannot think of wearing retro stuff today - people might think I'd never moved on!
