Happy to log on after a short break in London. I've missed you all. Have masses to catch up on. Will need to return later to tell you all about our trip. For all the pain of the journey down, it was a marvellous treat and we've returned with some sooper memories.

Hi there,*Bags*! Glad you had a good time, but glad to see you back.

Notsogrand Mon 09-Jul-12 08:03:12

Nice to see you back Bags.
Today I've been trying to remove lily pollen from all sorts of things. I grew a huge tree lily in a pot indoors. It is amazing, 14 gigantic blooms from one bulb and the perfume fills the house. The stamens are very long and stick right out so you get 'caught' each time you go near it.
My mostly white hair had 2 bright yellow patches which seem to have washed out ok this morning, but items of clothing & pillow cases are now on their second stain spray/wash cycle.
I snipped all of the stamens off yesterday as the pollen was starting to drop without being touched (cream carpet alert!) It looks different now, but still gorgeous.

Thank you for the welcome back, peeps! smile Had a lovely week but it's good to be home too.

Missed you Bags...smile

Notsogrand try sellotape next time - it's brilliant. The cat, however, isn't too keen on being sellotaped when he has been drinking the water from the vase and got an orange nose!

Annobel Mon 09-Jul-12 17:34:49

Glad you got home safely, Bags. I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch with you and when. Now have an appetite for more meetings with friends. No pun intended.

jeni Mon 09-Jul-12 18:07:49

bags have you seen the new peruvian catalogue? There are some very you things in it!

Elegran Mon 09-Jul-12 18:19:49

notso My eccclesiastical son-in-law says that in church they always cut the stamens off lilies as soon as they start to open. That way you avoid getting pollen on the vicar's alb and the choirboys' white gowns.

nanaej Mon 09-Jul-12 18:58:54

and for bridal flowers too!

Bags Mon 09-Jul-12 19:06:48

Off to look now, jeni! Mine hasn't arrived yet. Thanks for the tip! wink

Annobel Mon 09-Jul-12 19:18:25

Yet again, I've spent 3 hours on trains. Why should I feel tired? Before leaving Didcot, I got a 'dead leg' from GS who was bouncing on the sofa which is, of course, forbidden. Huh! Spent my time on the train chatting to a Welsh lady and then reading the Kindle, doing Sudoku and crosswords in the I. What great value that paper is! It's so peaceful at home!

Bags Mon 09-Jul-12 19:39:15

jeni, oooh! ah! mmmm! smile

The waterlily tunic is so DD2! She's very tealy at the mo. I wonder if she'd like it.

I love the kuba cloth kimono (surprise! surprise!) and the yucay alpaca pullover. Unfortunately alpaca doesn't like me.

Have a nice restful evening, anno!

Not wishing to alarm but isn't lily pollen dangerous to cats?

kittylester Mon 09-Jul-12 19:56:37

My cat was 17 when he dies crimson so presumably not if it's just on the cat's face!!

jeni Mon 09-Jul-12 20:18:10

bagssmile I like the Kashmiri dress!

AlieOxon Mon 09-Jul-12 20:22:06

I remember going to Kew Gardens and my daughter (then 10) got lily pollen on her nose - I've never let her forget it!

I've divided today between trips to the GP's surgery - first to get an appt for taking bloods (not until the 19th...) and then - having been offered a cancelled appt - to see her about my medication and when to take an increased dose / and putting a wardrobe together out of the pieces I have had here for the last five years - I knew I would put it together eventually - and moving books into boxes so I can get at a wall to paint it.

Yes, I got energy suddenly. If it's going to rain all the time I have to have a project!

Grannylin Mon 09-Jul-12 20:59:46

Having too much to drink.Effect of eating in the garden because it's actually not raining and I so want it to be summer.Came in and read Gransnet and felt quite squiffy, what with threads about lily stamens and Goose AKA nangran- surreal!

Notsogrand Mon 09-Jul-12 21:19:00

Grannylin, feeling squiffy is great isn't it? grin

Thanks for the sellotape tip kitty, I'll bear that in mind. Most of the items I washed are now pollen free apart from one cotton top. Lilies in churches....never gave it a thought!

jeni Tue 10-Jul-12 07:32:49

Up too early, but should finish early as well! Horrible day here and an accident on the M5 where I'm going! What fun.

JessM Tue 10-Jul-12 07:48:57

Hope it improves jeni I assume you have a driver to take care of you en route.

glassortwo Tue 10-Jul-12 08:02:32

Good morning jeni thank you it was lovely meeting up on Saturday. I am sat having another cup of tea hoping the mist is going to lift and bring some more sunshine. We have been lucky with the weather had a few over cast moments but the sun has shown itself and my chest is proof as I have caught the sun and you can see my tee shirt line. The kids have been belly boarding so we are having a great time. Hope you are not held up too long in the traffic.

Notsogrand Tue 10-Jul-12 08:30:37

Glass! great to see you!

greenmossgiel Tue 10-Jul-12 08:48:39

Good to hear from you, glass! smile

soop Tue 10-Jul-12 12:16:41

Good to have you back, Glass
Today, I'm hoping to capture a likeness [in watercolour] of handsome Charlie, Gally's old English sheep dog. She would like it to hang alongside Millie's portrait. smile

Gally Tue 10-Jul-12 13:50:30

smile Soop
Glass hope you have a lovely holiday
Today, the penultimate before leaving for Oz, we went to cheer on the Olympic torch as it was carried out of Maidenhead towards Dorney. I wonder if the 4x 2 year olds and their younger siblings will remember much! Highlight of the morning (!) was seeing Timmy Mallett dressed in a Union Jack peddling furiously behind the Olympic Bus!! The children were more taken with the vast amount of police all of whom waved and sounded their sirens.
I now have to offload 4 kgs of suitcase contents as it is overweight - a little like me grin Will next be on GN from Sydney - see you then.
