Sorry but I just need a moan. Chest hurting all day stopping me doing stuff. Don't suggest the GP. He hasn't a clue. Am slightly asthmatic but peak flow is constant, if a little low. Every time I have to fight off a cold (seems to be every other week and sometimes I think I'm fighting off two at once) my chest hurts, sometimes for several days. Sigh. sad

I have faggots, broccoli and peas lined up. Easy peasy. I'd never eaten faggots until DH introduced them a few years ago. Very good for CBA days.

bags sunshine and flowers. It must be very wearing for you, so easy does it today xx

whenim64 Thu 12-Jul-12 09:11:13

Sympathies bags flowers. Glad to hear that things are a little bit better today. I hope you're in fine fettle by lunch time - the weather is improving, damp conditions do aggravate this sort of thing. I have adhesions on my ribs/diaphragm from an op a few years ago and the barometer syncs with all the nasty twinges for me. Take care smile

I need to be sober enough to drive by 1615 today, but I've just discovered that a carefully measured single shot of vodka with orange juice is good for chest ache wink

My usual careless slosh onto ice cubes is probably more like two units.

Bags I'm so sorry to hear that you're unwell. You always seem to have an unlimited supply of "get-up-and go". Can you take it easy for a wee spell? Relax in your peaceful garden. Hope that your area is as sunny as Kintyre. smile

We've had a lovely summery morning. DH is working at home today ("lates" as when you visited) so he took DD along to the sailing club for her dinghy sailing course (also collected her yesterday afternoon). It's not far but driving always seems to tense my chest up, especially since I somersaulted the car a couple of years ago, so I avoid it when I can.

DD has had a nice breeze and sunshine today for sailing. Gotta be good after two days of hardly any wind and a day of some wind with lots of rain.

Good tip about the vodka Bags smile

Grannylin Thu 12-Jul-12 14:06:34

I have a Russian friend who swears by vodka for all ailments. She would! Her favourite is shot of vodka and pinch of salt for tum upsets- I have tried it and it sometimes works. As for the weather, you deserve it Bags, here in Devon it's a non stop downpour, worst day so far this week-hope it's better in Cornwall for glass

Bad night. Eight puffs on the Ventolin inhaler helped, eventually. Looks like that's the end of a pleasant five months of Ventolin-free life. Sigh.

JessM Fri 13-Jul-12 06:28:04

That is quite a lot. Are you sure you don't have a chest infection or something?

Bags Fri 13-Jul-12 06:30:14

Don't have a high temperature.

JessM Fri 13-Jul-12 06:50:23

People don't always get high temperatures with a chest infection I think. Temperature depends on whether your immune system reacts in a particular way. Babies run a temperature at the drop of a hat. As we get older we are less likely to.
I think this calls for a stethoscope just in case. People with chronic problems can have more of a tendency to self-diagnose than those that don't maybe?

Bags Fri 13-Jul-12 06:55:59

If it hadn't happened countless times already – the symptoms, the visit to the GP, the stethoscope (plus chest x-rays a few times), the GP shrug, the GP impatient look which says "neurotic woman" (at least it did till I got cross with him for stupid assumptions – didn't say those words, but he understood) – I'd go. Because of all the above, there doesn't seem much point.

Bags I had to smile when I read your 'ME is bullshit'. Very refreshing! [grin)

I say this because I have a relative who never admits to any problem (especially emotional/psychological ones) other than ME. The family wouldn't dare not go along with it.

petallus Fri 13-Jul-12 07:28:29

Bags are the faggots 'Brains'? We used to eat those donkey's years ago before I became veggie. They were delicious though God knows what was in them.

JessM Fri 13-Jul-12 08:14:49

I can imagine Bags and I am guess ing you don't have any choice of GPs in your locality.

Bags Fri 13-Jul-12 08:19:37

Well, there is another GP whom I've never seen, but by the local grapevine, he's an even bigger pillock.

I don't know what part of the beast faggots are made of. Quite likely to be at least part offal, I suppose. Waste not, want not and all that. I'll read the packet again and see if it says. It's meat though, so good food, so I eat it.

whenim64 Fri 13-Jul-12 08:29:51

Hi Bags so sorry to hear you've had a bad night. What about phoning NHS Direct and then if they advise you to see the doctor you will have some ammunition to counter the expected reaction? Also, do you have a walk in centre? We have them around here and a fresh opinion can help.

Bags Fri 13-Jul-12 08:43:20

Thanks, when. I had a look on NHS websites. They really don't want you pestering GP's unless you've got a raised temperature with your chest ache, or new symptoms. I haven't either of those and, since I've had the symptoms off and on for about twenty-four years, I think I've exhausted the current medical ability to do anything about them other than what I'm doing already. Sometimes one has to just accept that things are incurable and let them pass. It could be a lot worse. I have a vigorous immune system – over-vigorous perhaps, which may be part of the problem – I've never had a serious illness (not even flu) and didn't need various vaccinations (e.g. rubella, TB) when tested because I was already immune to the diseases.

I really appreciate being able to talk to you lovely lot though, so thank you from the heart. I usually bottle it up and just cope as best I can. It's a relief to moan sometimes. flowers

The Ventolin (four more puffs) is helping and I can feel the progression. I'll be OK. It's just frustrating not to be tearing around the garden at the mo with a saw or hedge-cutter or scythe. Things are getting a bit wild(er than usual). The hedgehogs will be happy smile

Thank you again, gransnetters!

Bags Fri 13-Jul-12 08:44:07

Sorry, superfluous apostrophe!

jeni Fri 13-Jul-12 08:48:38

My mother used to make faggots. Kidney liver lungs and caul to wrap them in add packet of sage and opinion stuffing mix. Very similar to haggis except bread instead of groats!

Butternut Fri 13-Jul-12 08:51:25

Oh B - This isn't much fun, is it. I do hope you pick up soon. x

Annobel Fri 13-Jul-12 09:20:26

Wish there was something I could say, Bags. Your local doctors sound like a waste of space. Are you sure that such big doses of Ventolin are OK? I have heard it can make you woozy. Take good care of yourself. sunshine
