Famous (?) Last Words

A post on another site has inspired me to ask: what would you like your last words to be?

Frankel Sat 14-Jul-12 14:55:45

Lord Palmerston said 'Die, my dear Doctor? That is the last thing I shall do.' Or so they say. I hope I don't say anything, just have the light switched off quickly. I hate long goodbyes anyway.

Who was it said, "Die, my dear Doctor? That is the last thing I shall do."? And was it William Pitt who said, "I think I could eat one of Bellamy's pies"? My last words are more than likely to be "Oh do stop fussing".

jeni I love that one, read the books over and over and also have them on my iPod.

I can't think of anything clever or amusing so would probably remind them al that I want them to wear red at my funeral.

I think I would say "Well that's buggered it"

Gagagran Fri 13-Jul-12 19:15:58

An old joke I remember from schooldays was the epitaph which read:

Miss Emily Post
Spinster
Returned unopened.

nelliedeane Fri 13-Jul-12 19:09:03

That is really appropriate jeni I don't like to be hungry, and would ordera large portion of every thing I deny myself as it is either fattening or alcoholic or not in good taste grin

merlotgran Fri 13-Jul-12 18:23:00

'Dont forget to put the rubbish out'.

harrigran Fri 13-Jul-12 18:18:52

jeni Fri 13-Jul-12 18:16:29

Appropiate on GN. Charles ii
'don't let Nellie starve""grin

gracesmum Fri 13-Jul-12 18:08:38

Apparently a dear friend's penultimate words were "Fox's chocolate biscuits are the best". Follwed by "Richard Dawkins got it wrong, there is a God"

AlieOxon Fri 13-Jul-12 17:46:04

"Don't forget to feed the parrot" ...?

I like this one, for a dentist:
"Strangers, approach these bones with gravity.
Doc Brown is filling his last cavity."

goldengirl Fri 13-Jul-12 17:28:03

'Peace and tranquility at last!' Assuming I go upwards rather than downwards of course grin

Annobel Fri 13-Jul-12 17:27:14

Keep an eye on Ed for me......

(Ed doesn't exist, of course)

Bags Fri 13-Jul-12 17:21:38

Good luck to your son in his new job, maniac! He's another who belies the grumblies' chant about people not really looking for work. 300 applications!!! Yeesh. Well done him.

jeni Fri 13-Jul-12 17:08:34

Goodbye and thanks for all the fish?

jeni Fri 13-Jul-12 17:07:47

Congrats! I hope it's a good one!

Greatnan Fri 13-Jul-12 16:58:23

That is great news, maniac - my congratulations to him.

Maniac Fri 13-Jul-12 16:54:55

have you read 'Goodbye,Cruel World.,A book of Memorable Epitaphs'in the
BOOK-BLOCKS series.
DS bought it for me Xmas 2010
He does buy me some odd presents .I felt a bit worried as he was somewhat depressed/stressed at the time.
Rejoice with me.After redundancy and over 300 applications he has at last
got a job.I do hope it goes well.He is talented and highly qualified.

Oscar Wilde is reputed to have said 'Either that wallpaper goes or I do'. The wallpaper won!
I would like my last words to be 'I love you and thank you' to my family.
