Last night I dreamt that I was preparing for a Greek exam and found that I hadn't read one of the set texts - Aeschylus' Seven Against Thebes! - and I had been skipping classes. I did do Greek at school and for a year at Uni, but I never did read Aeschylus - even in English.
Exams are a regular motif in my dreams. Goodness knows why because I rarely suffered from exam nerves and usually did better than I deserved. Yet this kind of dream is obviously about insecurity.

I get this guilt dream too - often that I have not prepared for my History finals (read Languages, not History) or maybe Lit. I wake up sweating that I have tried to blag my way through them!
I alos still dream about school, usually the night after I have had some contact with old colleagues, and my "favourite" nightmare is that I have a register in front of me, can't read the names and looking at the faces, do't recognise my own Tutor Group.
Clearly need to get out more smile

Oh dear! Is it a result of our Scottish education, do you think, gracesmum?

Calvinist guilt syndrome or evidence of a misspent undergraduate youth prehaps!

"perhaps" even.

I used to have a lot of dreams where I was separated from my companions and lost, or trapped in a vast underground cavern system (chalk walls patched with green, blue sky showing through unreachable openings high above) I went through a spell where I would wake terrified after a perfectly pleasant dream was broken into by a sudden disaster that I could not avert.

Strangely, I have not had these disturbing dreams since DH reached the more serious and terminal stage of his illness, though you would have thought they would have become worse. Perhaps the real disaster was enough for my subconscious without creating more?

Both!

The other night I dreamt I was walking with my DD in Brussels (where she lives) We were on a promenade looking out to sea and she said " oh look it is clear and we can see Chernobyl" How on earth does a brain conjure up sea in Brussels and why Chernobyl ?

I have vivid strange dreams every night without fail. Last night, my late mother asked me...are you expecting? [a baby] I told her that I was almost 71, so I didn't think so. She replied...well then, you're getting paunchy! hmm

I have nightmares most nights. Usually I don't remember them just wake up screaming and lashing out....I have a very patient husband bless him. However the other night I dreamt that death had come for me. You know the whole grim reaper package. I woke up terrified just as his finger was about to touch me. Even now, just thinking about it, makes me feel sick with fear. It was so real.

I'm beginning to think that Freud would have a field day with us!

vampire Heck! That's an awful dream. I sometimes have a dream in which a strange man is leaning over me. I try hard to scream. After much thrashing about I do get to shout HELP! Mr soop often leaps out of the bed at that point. confused

I used to have a lot of dreams where I was late for an exam, or I couldn't find the exam room - not had one of those for years!
I still occasionally dream that I'm trying to get somewhere for a certain time, but events are preventing me from reaching my destination. I'm sure there must be a reason, if I could be bothered to investigate!

I rarely remember the details of my dreams but this one was so detailed right down to the name of a play I hardly knew existed - in fact I had to Google it to be sure it did exist.

I'm terrible. I sit up or even get out of bed and walk around. I have one sided conversations. My husband says it's obvious I'm listening and responding to someone in my dream. I reach out for things. I scream and cry. But the worst was when we got up one morning and I noticed my husband had a black eye forming. I thought he'd banged it on the bedside drawers because that's the sort of thing I do when I'm writhing about in my sleep but in fact he'd woken up with me punching him in the face. Apparently I hit him just the once then lay down again as if nothing had happened and continued to sleep. Fortunately that's only happened the once.

I have to say he's a very very patient man.

Anagram I also have 'frustration' based dreams - can't seem to reach my destination and the telephone kiosk is out of order and I'm wandering around strange deserted places...

Anagram Tue 17-Jul-12 15:57:27

Perhaps we're lost souls, soop! confused

soop Tue 17-Jul-12 16:02:05

Anagram best meet up at Lil's. gramps informs me that the liquor is lethal!

Anagram Tue 17-Jul-12 16:14:05

That's a bit drastic, soop shock
Are you suggesting we drink ourselves into oblivion....?

jeni Tue 17-Jul-12 16:50:57

I frequently have the exam dream when I'm stressed. It's usually that for some unknown reason I have decided to repeat university! I then get upset because I haven't revised. When I wake I have to remind myself that I am actually qualified? confused

soop Tue 17-Jul-12 16:56:21

The dreaded exam dream. I often sit an exam [maths/science/physics] about which I'm clueless hmm

vampirequeen Tue 17-Jul-12 16:56:27

Does anyone have the 999 dream when you either can't hit the numbers or it's always engaged.

soop Tue 17-Jul-12 16:56:50

YES!

petallus Tue 17-Jul-12 20:09:05

Yes, trying to dial for help and misdialling, trying again, dropping the phone etc.

I also have one where I have a short time to pack for a holiday and I just can't find the clothes I want to put in the case and I get more and more frantic and everything is in a muddle and then eventually I know it's too late and I've missed the plane and everyone else has gone without me.

Anagram Tue 17-Jul-12 20:11:08

Aren't dreams odd?
I've never had that phone one! (Wonder if I will tonight...confused)
