Living the cliche..............

I have put my comfy armchair out on the balcony in the sun, I am watching Countdown through the open French Windows and....guess what? Yes, I have the inevitable glass of wine. I did quite a steep two hour walk up the ski slopes this morning so I feel entitled to relax!

Feet up, cup of tea, Gransnet, soup cooking in the pressure cooker. Washing on the line getting rinsed by a steady drizzle...

Sounds fab, Greatnan. We've become addicted to the new afternoon quiz, Tipping Point, mainly because I can't stay away from those machines whenever we go to the seaside. I've been known to save up 2p pieces for weeks so I can hop up and down cheering when the GCs win a few back. We always come away empty handed but it's sooooooo much fun!

Greatnan Tue 17-Jul-12 18:08:58

Merlot - I record that while I watch Pointless! My favourite quiz shows are University Challenge and Mastermind. I used to love 15 to 1. I am watching Eggheads but they are repeats. I do find some of the team a bit pompous and the quizmasters can be very patronising.

merlotgran Tue 17-Jul-12 18:19:38

We like University Challenge even though getting half a dozen questions right is a cause for celebration. Mastermind general knowledge bit is more likely to yield a fairly respectable score. Some of the specialist subjects are a bit bizarre these days though. We also like The Chase because it has a fast pace. Some quizzes seem to play for time. I'm really not interested in the background of all the contestants or what they're going to do with the money (if they win it).

crimson Tue 17-Jul-12 18:23:46

In University Challenge I find that, if you answer Oscar Wilde to every question you're usually guaranteed one correct answer.

Greatnan Tue 17-Jul-12 18:28:22

I'm glad you mentioned not being interested in the contestants' backgrounds, Merlot, I thought I was just being a miserable old grump!

jack Tue 17-Jul-12 18:50:54

I can take or leave University Challenge and Mastermind - mostly leave - but DH loves both programmes and shouts out the answers whilst simultaneously putting his hand up like an over-excited schoolboy whenever he comes up with the correct answer. Of course he does this to amuse me (?) but I'd rather watch one of those moody Scandinavian thrillers. Or, if I want to exercise the brain, do The Times crossword (the easy one in T2). blush

Annobel Tue 17-Jul-12 18:57:49

I've always liked University Challenge and feel so smug when I can get an answer that those bright young sparks can't!

I like to watch TV to relax. Countdown and Pointless very relaxing for me. At the moment there is little to grab me. This is the Summer of Sport and .u.. a.. else!

Merlotgran I'm just like you with Uni Challenge .. 6 answers correct and I'm King for the Day smile

jeni Tue 17-Jul-12 19:49:20

Living The Dream!

Greatnan Tue 17-Jul-12 20:01:57

Yes, this was my dream and apart from my sadness about one DD it is everything I hoped.

Charlotta Tue 17-Jul-12 21:01:12

Who wants to live a cliché? Surprisingly quite a few but not me.

Greatnan Tue 17-Jul-12 21:07:57

Charlotta - it was meant to be a joke! Perhaps you haven't seen A Place in the Sun where every prospective buyer pictures themselves on their balcony with a glass of wine. smile

merlotgran Tue 17-Jul-12 22:22:44

Or Escape To The Country where they picture themselves feeding chickens and swanning around on a ride on mower smile
