Blimey I can't believe it's 20 years already. Did you hear that Ingrams bloke on the wireless this morning? He certainly gives all those young whoppersnappers no whippersnappers a run for their money. Muggeridge quote a masterpiece. Hats off I say!!

Yes, I heard this article. It was on the Today programme, wasn't it? smile

I thought the most interesting thing, to be honest, was what they had to say about advertising. Apparently the Oldie doesn't manage to attract very much of it. When the interviewer asked why they thought this might be, Richard Ingrams replied that manufacturers probably realised people of our age were too savvy to be taken in with their 'skills', but the man from the Oldie's advertising agency, who was in on the interview with Ingrams, thought it more likely that manufacturers don't want their products to become associated with older people! I think the most likely explanation for the lack of advertising they attract is simply that it is thought that older people don't have much money to spend. What happened to the grey pound?!

I wonder if Gransnet has similar difficulties.

I don't actualy read the magazine but I am going to pick up a copy next time I see it, out of curiosity.

I wish Terry Wogan wasn't associated with it though. I can't stand his kind of 'oldie'!

Hi jingle! Some of it is quite funny!

I would have thought the advertising agency bloke was probably nearer the truth, but surely there are products which are already aimed at older consumers by their very nature. They could advertise those. I thought the media thought all baby-boomers were loaded, anyway! grin

The media do, the admen think we are all little old ladies in cardigans buying two rashers of bacon and an egg.

July the 12th Dont time fly?

I thought it was yesterday I heard Mr Ingrams on the wireless!

Speaking as a little old lad in a cardigan buying two rashers of imitation bacon and an egg. (I am vegetarian) I was trying to do that yesterday when I got diverted into the 'Apple' shop and bought an iphone 5 - then I went home and ordered the ersatz bacon and egg online.

Glad you are looking after your health Daman - an Apple a day and all that.....

Thank you gracesmum the challenges you present to me are probably worth staying around for.
