My dad wrote this in my autograph book, when I was about 12. Don't have the autograph book, (or my dad), but this is the one thing in the book that has stayed with me.

Hilda W your posting me reminded me of something my mother used to say to me ' if you have nothing good to say about someone then say nothing at all' . I still hear her say it if I am considering saying something that isn't perhaps the kindest about someone else.

Grannybug, yes I think its not a bad mantra, can imagine my Grandma saying it....she was old school blunt and to the point but never malicious or spiteful.
