I hear and I forget
I see and I remember
I do and I understand

This was often repeated to us when I was a student teacher in training and it made a great impression on me. I've used and applied it to various situations ever since - when teaching all ages ranging from infants to adults, and now when interacting with 3 year old GD. I may not always have said it out loud but it's application and use has always worked.

Some years ago I met a wonderful retired Colonel, who told me of another phrase, unfortunately I no longer have the Latin version (things always sound so erudite in Latin) but it translated as :

"When you have them by the balls, their hearts and mind will follow"

George W Bush - not known for his wise words, once said the following:
"The trouble with the French is that they don't have a word for 'entrepreneur'"
Those of us who live in France and who are at the mercy of French artisans, will accept the bizarre wisdom of that statement. smile

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars

The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it
