Good stuff isn't it?

The venues look delightful too. I am losing count of our medal bag to date but we seem to be doing really well.

On the the Forum Television and Radio. Mrs Jam Jam and I mentioned the lovely Weymouth.

Does anyone else, maybe Dorsetpent, live nearby?

I am interested to know if the reports of Weymouth being quiet and financially struggling because of the Olympics is true. It just seems impossible this could be the case.

I would love to be there.

At the moment Roger hit the winning ball in the marathon tennis match, my knicker elastic broke. blush [not really!] grin

I am finding it addictive too, a surprise to me.

The equestrian on freeview 301. The sailing on B.B.C.1. Judo on 7, blimey I can't keep up and wasn't the rowing fantastic. The girls are certainly showing the lads how to do it!!!. The girls seem to be effortless whilst the boys are right out of puff.

It certainly is the case the venues for every sport have been wonderful and I think the world will see these olympics as one of the best, if only the miserable press and t.v. stop trying to sabotage all the good things. I think they are catching on to the fact we are all a little fed up of the moaning as they are certainly getting behind the games now.

If it was taking place in another country I probably would not be taking a fraction of the interest I find myself having.

Got the Lego in Argos - with a label on it saying: 'boys' toys'. I know that both my GDs would take strong exception to that. Federer was playing del Potro when I went out and they're still battling it out. Andy and Novak next. I was really pleased that Murray and Laura Robson won their mixed doubles last night. She's a strong kid!

I had four chicken coops to muck out this morning shock. I've done three but just had to come indoors for a catch up. The Olympics are so addictive flag

What a morning! I tried not to watch the Olympics all the time, but kept being drawn back to the tele. A great gold medal at last for Cath Grainger partnered by Anna Watkins. My blood pressure must have gone up during their race. And there was a sensational start for Jess Ennis in the heptathlon - a British record in the 100m hurdles and a best ever time in a heptathlon. Doesn't she also have the option to go in the hurdles next week?

Now this couch potato must go out again and try to find some Lego for DGS's 7th birthday. He is a fanatical and very creative builder.

I've just checked on the rules of hockey. The BBC have a short version which is about as much as I can take in nowadays!

'The rules say players must "hold their stick and not use it in a dangerous way".
Players must not play the ball with any part of the stick when the ball is above shoulder height except that defenders are permitted to use the stick to stop or deflect a shot at goal at any height.

I take this to mean that they can raise the stick as high as they like to whack the ball, as long as the ball isn't above shoulder height. That's certainly a change from the days when I played it at school and umpired it as a teacher.

'Bog standard' Scottish schools didn't play lacrosse - only the posh ones! But we played a mean (and I mean mean) game of hockey. grin

jeni Thu 02-Aug-12 20:20:16

Neither did I, but we still had to play.
I was goalkeeper for lacrosse, scorer for cricket( I played left handed and they had to change the field round every timegrin) netball scorer(tall)tennis- recurrently dislocating R shoulder meant I couldn't go above shoulder height. Asthma meant I couldn't run!

I think you'll gather I was not sporty! Much rather read and study!

whitewave Thu 02-Aug-12 20:16:55

wasn't it a north american indian game originally? how did it get over to the UK?

Ella46 Thu 02-Aug-12 20:15:30

Well Miss Snooty jeni grin I played lacrosse, hockey, cricket, netball, tennis and rounders! And I didn't even like sport! So there! grin

jeni Thu 02-Aug-12 20:15:22

10X more vicious than hockey! An American native sport originally I believe. The men always pad up for it , the girls in my day didn't! Lots of broken bones and concussion! Horrible game!angry

whitewave Thu 02-Aug-12 20:11:46

I read about lacrosse in girls books never really knew what it was except the "sticks" looked peculiar

jeni Thu 02-Aug-12 20:10:05

I played lacrosse! [snooty] emoticon!

Ella46 Thu 02-Aug-12 20:07:38

Anno my dgds play hockey and they wave the sticks around with gay abandon! The teachers never tell them off about it...so dangerous! confused

Annobel Thu 02-Aug-12 20:03:53

Now watching women's hockey. Hasn't it changed since our (or my) time? When did it become permissible to raise the stick above one's shoulder? And it's so fast now that it's played on astro-turf. Anyway, both our boys and girls are getting on rather well in the early rounds. Keep it up!

whitewave Thu 02-Aug-12 20:00:55

Yes they were all BRILLIANT

Annobel Thu 02-Aug-12 19:59:18

I wouldn't argue with that ww, but it was a strong team effort - the youngster who rode the first lap was terrific and Jason Kenny kept up the effort to give Sir Chris the chance to cross the line first.

whitewave Thu 02-Aug-12 19:52:42

Chris Hoyle for King - HM Christoper 1st.

Butternut Thu 02-Aug-12 16:29:32

Yes! when - I am absolutely delighted for Kayla. smile

whenim64 Thu 02-Aug-12 16:15:12

Well done Kayla Harrison of the USA for her judo gold. She overcame the abuse her judo coach perpetrated (he got 10 years) and has something to celebrate. We got a silver. smile

JessM Thu 02-Aug-12 15:55:27

WELL!!! I am off to the first day of the athletics.

Will report back. Over and out.

whenim64 Thu 02-Aug-12 15:53:50

And two more medals, gold and silver, minutes later for the canoe slalom. Impressive! smile
