What's you strange dislike? My friend can't stand the feel of wooden lolly sticks on her tongue so sticks to ice cream cornets! My sis cant bear to touch velvet - makes her feel queasy.I can't bear the touch of that paper they make raffle tickets out of.I don't know why but handling them makes me shudder. When I was younger bus tickets were made out of a similar paper and I hated touching them too. An other friend of mine doesn't like the feel of cotton wool. What we like!

I can't sit still during ad breaks on TV you can do a lot during 3 mins. Not having my pillows plumped up on my bed or sofa is my pet hate.
Seeing adverts for toilet cleaners and those horrible green gremins dancing around the toilet bowl, urrgh!!!

Many of these dislikes seem anything but strange – except why are people filling their mouths with fabrics and tissue paper in the first place? confused

I have a quite a few (not strange) but dislikes: sad
I find it very difficult to sit still watching a film or performance. I get restless and fidgety and feel like I want to jump up and leave. I sometimes get this feeling if I am at home sitting on the couch too.
Wearing clothes with tags, especially if they are a bit sharp makes me edgy.
I can't abide hair on soap. drains and in basins, it makes me shudder.
My daughter also has an aversion to lolly sticks in her mouth.

Crimson - thanks for the heads up - I shall avoid the book and hope they do not feature that aspect in a TV episode.

When I was still working, an elderly widower, who was diabetic and nearly blind came into our office to ask if we had any volunteers who could cut his toe nails. Although, it was not within our remit I undertook to see what I could find out and discovered that health visitors, practice nurses and so on are not allowed to do this but must refer to the chiropodist but that there was a 6 month waiting list for him. I tried the local nail bars but they all said No Way!, then I tried the Red Cross who did provide the service at one time but were not allowed to do it any more either. However, they gave me a number for a very jolly lady who being RETIRED from the Red Cross, still had her kit and could do as she pleased. The pair got on like a house on fire - he got his nails cut and she acquired a dancing partner.

He never knew the nightmares he gave me with his vivid description of the state of his toe nails! Enough! Enough! Please change the subject now and discuss someone else's hangups I can readily cope with everyone elses'.

Oh Granny 23; you must read Call the Midwife..there's a chapter devoted to toenail cutting [or lack of it!]. But, then again, perhaps it's best that you don't read it confused. No; whatever you do, don't read it......

Cutting my toe nails - I find it absolutely terrifying and do it last thing at night so that I can go straight to bed after. The only thing worse was when I had to cut my mother's when she was unable to do her own because of arthritis. I would need a full anasthetic before I could let anyone else near my toes with clippers or scissors.

Putting anything creamy or greasy on my skin then putting clothes over the top [although I sometimes put cream on my horrid feet to soften them and then put socks over] eg putting voltarol on my knee at night then putting my jim jams on.

Mixing any kind of mixture bread, pastry dumplings, and it sticks all over your hands if I have put too much water in.... turns my stomach when its clinging to your hands and you cant get it off erghhhhhhh.

Grannygee Tue 14-Aug-12 17:18:23

Hairs on things, especially in drains, yeuch! Makes me feel like gagging. Some people walk round with hairs all over their jumpers and it makes me feel sick! I'm married to a hairy man too! Every morning when I do the bed I sweep them off the sheet into the bin and leave it hair free. The shower is a no go area for me if someones's left it covered in hairs. My other half will at least rinse everywhere down when he's showered!

I hate it if anyone touches the backs of my knees – not that it happens that often.

Anne58 Tue 14-Aug-12 14:01:08

Potatoes that have sprouted! I just can't bear to touch them.

vampirequeen Tue 14-Aug-12 13:38:02

Daffodil sap. I hate the way it feels as it drips out.

Annobel Mon 13-Aug-12 21:19:39

I don't know if it's a strange dislike - to me it seems perfectly rational - but I loathe vacuuming largely because of the noise.

Nonu Mon 13-Aug-12 20:24:51

I use secuters to deadhead mine

jeni Mon 13-Aug-12 20:23:14

Ditto!

Bez Mon 13-Aug-12 19:26:08

De-heading petunias - they are all horribly sticky - I stick to geraniums because of it.

Daisyanswerdo Mon 13-Aug-12 18:30:05

grin Anagram I don't flit around with a feather duster all day! Any surfaces here are covered with books and papers. Unglazed pottery I do try to avoid.

Anagram Mon 13-Aug-12 18:15:32

Don't come to my house, then, Daisy! grin

Daisyanswerdo Mon 13-Aug-12 18:10:53

Dusty glass, dusty balloons, unglazed pottery - hate touching them.

kittylester Mon 13-Aug-12 17:41:38

Cold past, velvet, cotton wool and tissue paper in my mouth [yuk emoticon]

chitchat Mon 13-Aug-12 16:12:49

Can't stand touching raw liver, ugh. oh! and cold pasta in my mouth

Nelliemoser Sun 12-Aug-12 16:37:27

The sponge foam attached to some of those "scotchbrite" kitchen scourers (other brands are available!) I don't mind the scourer stuff on its own, I just hate the feel of the foam.

shysal Sun 12-Aug-12 15:44:07

Those microfibre cloths, especially if my hands are a bit rough, make me shudder.

Grossi Sun 12-Aug-12 15:40:43

tattynan, my husband shares the wooden lolly stick aversion. But he enjoys carpentry! confused
