How judgmental are you?

We have had various threads where people have expressed their views quite forcefully about which newspaper others read blush, people who are supposed benefit-scroungers or have been to public school etc, etc, but how good are you at seeing people and situations from a non-prejudiced point of view?

My feeling is that we all (especially as we get older) have different preconceptions but, if we accept that we have them, we can then learn to ignore them or work round them.

What do you think?

jeni Mon 20-Aug-12 19:54:16

People laugh when I say that I'm a pussy cat?confused

Greatnan Mon 20-Aug-12 19:55:45

I wonder why!

Annobel Mon 20-Aug-12 19:56:42

A nice big stripey tiger, jeni? Me, I'm a tame tabby. Greatnan is more of a cheetah. grin

Oldgreymare Mon 20-Aug-12 20:00:49

I baggy be 'Bagpuss'..... said very quickly before someone beats me to it grin

jeni Mon 20-Aug-12 20:02:16

Is it me, or are the threads weird tonight?

Greatnan Mon 20-Aug-12 20:02:25

I think Bags may already have beaten you to it! I quite like the idea of being TopCat. I loved that cartoon - he was a sort of feline Bilko.

Sorry if I am backtracking a bit, but marelli thinks she was confused, she has nothing on me! merlot are you a poultry keeper?

baNANA Mon 20-Aug-12 20:05:31

Hi ninnynana, just went back to the old thread regarding Prime Minster, I'm a little bit confused, on this thread, yes did say get a bit fed up with people who drone on about the DM being the route to all evil, or something along those lines. I like to read a range of newspapers and sometimes the DM is one of those, as well as The Times and the Independent. One of my sons buys the Guardian and the other (occasionally) buys the Sun. Neither would be my option for different reasons. I do regard a newspaper a personal choice and as such don't feel I have to fall out with people about what they read, but similarly don't expect them to judge me on what I read as we are not all one dimensional. However, whilst I don't share all the same views politically as say Greatnan, I have nevertheless found myself in complete agreement with her on subjects such as female subjugation of women within religion as it seems we were both schooled by Catholic nuns and probably have strong views on the Catholic church, although unlike her I'd probably describe myself as a questioning believer, but I am sympathetic towards people who aren't. I don't really have a problem with not sharing the same views as others on a forum such as this and certainly would not expect to. I don't consider anyone should call a halt to a thread for reasons such as "they feel it's disruptive" I think it should burn itself out when the subject matter has been exhausted and we don't all have to agree, who does? Going back to the Prime Minster thread, I think I was in agreement with you there about coming out of the Human Rights Act as here in the UK we seem to have signed up to it lock stock and barrel whilst quite a few other EU countries seems to use their discretion in what they will and wont adopt and for me it seems to penalise our citizens. I would not agree with you about capital punishment as this would never sit easy with me as I don't believe the state has the right to take a life and it's one of the things I find unpalatable about some states in America, where in spite of not being left here, I'm sure I'd vote Democrat there. I don't agree with not having some sort of free health service for the poorest section of society. Moving on to tattoos not a fan, one of my son's has 4, don't like them think the body looks better without drawings on it but that's me don't expect everyone else to agree.

Bags Mon 20-Aug-12 20:06:25

Yep! jeni has called me Bagpuss more than once so tough luck, ogm! wink

Bags Mon 20-Aug-12 20:09:09

oops. Sorry, banana.

Oldgreymare Mon 20-Aug-12 20:09:46

I shall go into a deep decline! sad Bags

merlotgran Mon 20-Aug-12 20:10:51

Yes, glass I breed pure breed poultry. Sorry to add to the weirness of the threads tonight. Poultry keeping doesn't really have anything to do with this thread does it? confused

Anagram Mon 20-Aug-12 20:11:34

It can do....

Oldgreymare Mon 20-Aug-12 20:16:15

It's fun though! Friends who came to stay recently 'lost' their final chicken just before they set out, gave her a decent burial but wondered what to do with her last egg laid moments before she left this life. They ate it but felt weird doing so grin.
Now that reduces this thread to the realms of the ridiculous....blush

glassortwo Mon 20-Aug-12 20:17:09

It can if you want it to, we could discuss free range eggs or not ?

glassortwo Mon 20-Aug-12 20:19:12

Oh thats sad old could you eat the last egg I dont know!

jeni Mon 20-Aug-12 20:20:01

As a he brained contributed to this thread, does this mean that you could breed me?confused

jeni Mon 20-Aug-12 20:20:28

Meant hen! Iam not a he!

glassortwo Mon 20-Aug-12 20:20:45

merlot I have the hen house ready to go up when we get into the house, not decided on breeds yet.

Oldgreymare Mon 20-Aug-12 20:23:07

Glass, no I could not, I was glad they didn't bring it with them as a gift!

merlotgran Mon 20-Aug-12 20:28:43

glass, If you want them just for eggs have a look at a poultry keeping book which gives you the breeds which produce the largest number of eggs per year. I keep Welsummers for their lovely dark brown eggs. Marans hens eggs are really dark brown as well. My Cream Legbars produce pale blue eggs and the Barnevelders produce speckled brown ones. I sell cartons of mixed colours in the village. Very trendy these days. grin

glassortwo Mon 20-Aug-12 20:33:15

Thanks merlot I will do, I will get on to Amazon, some good bedtime reading. smile

merlotgran Mon 20-Aug-12 20:46:56

If you are likely to have small DGCs visiting, glass it's a good idea to go for the gentler breeds. Orpingtons, Barnevelders and Welsummers are lovely to have around and you can even be really trendy and colour co-ordinate your hens with your house and garden. hmm

jeni Mon 20-Aug-12 20:48:54

hmm

Bags Mon 20-Aug-12 20:54:50

Black Rocks are good for eggs but they are a cross breed. We had a Welsummer, and some Scots Greys (feisty survivors in a cool, damp climate! also good layers), and some blue-laced wyandottes. Pretty but daft.
