Apart from choosing a new name, I've been slathering Germolene on insect bites - how lovely is that? My new name doesn't make one think of Germolene and insect bites! It's the time of year for these and I'm covered in large itchy bumps...grin

Nfk the hardest bit I found was being in a shop and thinking, just for a second, that I had mislaid a child. I soon got used to it! grin

We're staying with DD1 and today she took eldest DGD for her first day at school and youngest DGD for her taster session at nursery. Then came home and burst into tears. It's a day I know will stay with her always. I still recall getting home after depositing two at school and one at play group and crying my heart out coming home to an empty house. 35 years ago.

GillieB we sat on the terrace of the Tapas bar and the wind was blowing up the river and shaking the parasols, it wasn't too cold though. Looking forward to Edinburgh and seeing you there.
Enjoy your holiday smile

soop Thu 06-Sept-12 16:16:40

See you at the meet, Marelli and GillyB smile

GillieB Thu 06-Sept-12 16:12:45

Yes, Marelli, I am. Seems a long time off, though.

Oh well, really must switch off the laptop and do some things.

Marelli Thu 06-Sept-12 15:48:56

GillyB, have a lovely holiday! I think you're coming to the 'near-Edinburgh' meet-up though? Hope to see you then! smile

GillieB Thu 06-Sept-12 13:54:40

Thanks, Soop. I wish I could be a fly on the wall .....

soop Thu 06-Sept-12 13:52:08

GillieB Happy travels. I can imagine the Gransmeet in Newcastle. Hoping that they have a whole lot of fun. smile

GillieB Thu 06-Sept-12 13:49:06

Today I've been ....packing, ready for our flights tomorrow. I have now run out of things to do so really should have joined the Grans for their lunch in Newcastle. The things I have to pack are all last minute things now.

How nice to have bats, Bags - I am sure we will all be interested to hear what happens about them.

soop Thu 06-Sept-12 13:35:59

Bags Clever thinking...keep it up! grin

JO4 Thu 06-Sept-12 13:02:45

Yeah.

Bags Thu 06-Sept-12 12:56:44

If I sweep up the droppings each day, I'll know when they hibernate again, and if they emerge during the winter at all. What fun!

Bags Thu 06-Sept-12 12:55:22

Investigating droppings on front doorstep. Conclusion of investigation, which involved a microscope, is that they are Brown Long-eared Bat droppings. This means they are still living above the door lintel under the porch roof. I'm glad about this because a few years ago when we had someone rebuilt the porch because its supports were rotting, he discovered a couple of bats roosting inside one of the rotting beams when he had already taken half of it away. He built them a house and attached it to the wall. When they emerged from hibernation, they went looking for their old 'house' and ended up in DD's bedroom. All very exciting. Anyway, it's good to see they are back in their old place but with good wood around them smile

Must let the local bat man know.

Nonu Thu 06-Sept-12 12:43:50

JO4 Thu 06-Sept-12 11:44:55

I need to get off of here.

Just went to put my washing on the line. Machine empty. Haven't actually put it on to wash yet!

JO4 Thu 06-Sept-12 11:41:29

grin

whenim64 Thu 06-Sept-12 11:35:46

The saga of my missing Thompson and Morgan irises has taken a funny turn this morning. Interlink turned up to re-deliver a parcel that didn't look iris-shaped. I have a cigarette testing kit and questionnaire from some anonymous tobacco company!. Not sure which way up to plant them. grin

On phoning T and M, they laughed at me and said 'no dear, we haven't posted them yet - they're coming next week.'

Some person a couple of roads away must be pacing up and down, waiting for their fags hmm

Bags Thu 06-Sept-12 07:53:28

Just about to make my usual breakfast but I don't think it will taste the same as usual because I'll be thinking about a bacon roll and champagne. My roll has some fired onions in it too, and some home-made marrow chutney. Yum.
