Apart from choosing a new name, I've been slathering Germolene on insect bites - how lovely is that? My new name doesn't make one think of Germolene and insect bites! It's the time of year for these and I'm covered in large itchy bumps...grin

Wind went round on Wednesday and our walnut tree started rustling it's leaves. Today they started to drop. It's autumn.

Stansgran Fri 31-Aug-12 18:35:45

turned the central heating on. Is it winter or still autumn?

Weeding, weeding, weeding.. On the positive side we will have our first borlotti beans in a salad tonight, with ratatouille made from our own ingredients.

Been hearing about my family's holiday in Iceland, I think the GC will be talking about their adventure for a long time. For those interested in the Aurora Borealis I have included the link to DS's photos.

Thanks, Bags! I noticed there has been no Facebook contact from a friend further down the Kintyre Peninsula either, so they must be affected too!

Nelliemoser smile Sounds familiar!
I made curtains for DD3's baby's nursery. I hadn't made anything like that for about 25 years and amazed myself at how good they were - I even lined them - although the pattern was of owls of all shapes and sizes and by the end of counting owls and trying to match them all up I was goggle-eyed and zombified grin. Same daughter is very short in the leg and wears jeans draped on the floor - I usually end up chopping off the frayed bits and tacking them up. I have tried to teach her the art of hemming, but to no avail .

absentgrana I am most definately a model parent. I also shortened 3pairs of maternity jeans some months ago. What would have been more helpful would to have taught my DD how to do that herself. smile

Could it be because you are a kind and loving mum Nelliemoser?

Nelliemoser Thu 30-Aug-12 22:29:40

I spent the day gazing at the curtain material my daughter bought for the coming babies bedroom, trying to work out the pattern match. I only want to make simple tab top decorative curtains to frame the window around the blind. It appears that the horizontal pattern repeat is wider than the fabric and there is a central motif that makes using two widths to match very difficult indeed. I then spent a lot of time measuring to be sure of getting the drop right. The really scary bit is actually putting scissors to the fabric.

My late mother was the curtain maker in the family. I could not measure up to her skills or her perfectionism in this. Mum would not approve of my attempts at mitred corners. Why did I offer to make them in the first place!

Marelli lovely caff in the woods - and upper crust fellow eaters too if I remember!!
All this talk of floods and storms is putting me off returning home; summer is on the horizon here and most days the temp rises to early 20's and I am in the summer gear and wearing thongs (on my feet ladies not on my a**e grin)

Ariadne Thu 30-Aug-12 22:07:32

Anagram Thu 30-Aug-12 22:03:53

Anagram Thu 30-Aug-12 21:01:06

Ella46 Thu 30-Aug-12 20:55:21

I missed her too, but I thought she was keeping away from the GOD thread grin

Hope you're ok soop xx

Ariadne Thu 30-Aug-12 20:44:16

Do hope she's OK! let us know, soop, when you can. xxxx

Soop`s house is set back from the road, and on a slight slope, also not quite in the village, so hopefully they`re alright. She may have lost her internet though, as you said.

Marelli Thu 30-Aug-12 18:05:42

I just Googled it, and the Campbeltown Courier video came up, number. Quite a torrent flowing past some of the cottages and down into gardens.

numberplease Thu 30-Aug-12 17:59:55

Marelli, I saw it on the Kintyre forum, video from the Campbeltown Courier.

Marelli Thu 30-Aug-12 17:57:24

Just found the video, number. Flash flooding. Maybe her internet's down? If you're able to, soop, let us know if all's well?

Marelli Thu 30-Aug-12 17:52:31

I was wondering about soop, too. She's usually here somewhere, but hasn't posted for the last couple of days. Haven't seen anything about flooding there, number. confused
