Apart from choosing a new name, I've been slathering Germolene on insect bites - how lovely is that? My new name doesn't make one think of Germolene and insect bites! It's the time of year for these and I'm covered in large itchy bumps...grin

This morning I visited two local buildings in the "Doors Open Day" scheme and learnt a lot. Both involved a lot of walking about and stairs. Meant to do a couple more in the afternoon but somehow once I had sat down.......

Tomorrow I go for Sunday lunch with DS and partner. There are a couple more properties near them which look interesting. Maybe I can persuade them to an excursion in the afternoon.

jeni, why haven't you posted any photos of you on the cruise? Or are none of them suitable? grin

Have a lovely day, when. It will be bittersweet, but the sun is shining down on you. A lovely place for a wedding to take place! smile

Stacking the wood for winter - [exhausted] emoticon.

Good news about your son, Anno. Can I expect you to go yomping over the ski slopes at Hirmentaz with me next Spring?

Jeni - you both look very smart indeed. (I finally realised that you have to tick the link box at the bottom before you click on your name, to get to your profile).

I've added a photo of maniac to my phptos

The forecast for here is pretty dire, so it's best to enjoy the sun today. I was practising using two walking poles today and was beginning to get the hang of them, though occasionally out of synch.
Good news today is that DS2 who was made redundant a few weeks ago, has been offered an 8 month contract doing the same kind of job for a prestigious company and he hopes he can get his feet under the table for the future! Meanwhile, he has been enjoying his 'holiday' from work, especially now the boys are both at school. He's been cycling miles round the county, running and playing tennis! And, I'm pleased to say, losing weight.

Greatnan Sat 22-Sept-12 13:52:49

Sounds a nice day out, Anno - grey and wet here in Switzerland and not a good forecast for the week ahead.

annodomini Sat 22-Sept-12 13:20:42

I've been making an idiot of myself as usual. After having my annual flu jab - met about half of the U3A there - I went off to Lyme Park as it was a most glorious morning. The lake was so calm it mirrored all the birds pootling around on it. Having found that National Trust C****** cards had 20% off, I just had to invest. Then, of course, I had to have a cup of tea, but when I got back to the car, where were my keys? OK, back at speed (!) to the coffee shop where, amazingly, they were behind the counter! blush Now home for squash and sweet potato soup - delicious though I say it myself. Still a lovely sunny day and the washing drying nicely.

number, I do hope that Pepper turns up safely. It's so upsetting when a pet goes AWOL. Please keep us informed - meanwhile I'll be thinking of you.

Greatnan Sat 22-Sept-12 13:00:49

What a lovely picture you paint, when!

Nanadogsbody Sat 22-Sept-12 12:50:43

Good news glitabo smile

Enjoy stay greatnan and the animals.

whenim64 Sat 22-Sept-12 12:21:28

Enjoy your stay Greatnan smile

I am in Bowness-on-Windermere for the weekend, for my brother's wedding this afternoon. I'm sat in a fabulous hotel room, overlooking the lake and sweeping lawns and gardens, watching boats tootling up and down. It's the most perfect day here. I'll take a picture and put it on my profile when I get home.

Oldgreymare Sat 22-Sept-12 10:28:47

..... I could be sooooooo 'adaptable Greatnan!
Seriously, enjoy your stay, your explorations and your increased space!

Greatnan Sat 22-Sept-12 10:15:01

No way, OGM - they are my adopted pets! It is lovely here, though, and once I have taken Gatsby for her walk (she can't do long ones these days) I will be off exploring again. It is odd to be in this huge house, as my own flat is only 24 sq. metres, but I am adaptable.

Littlenellie Sat 22-Sept-12 09:47:52

Good news for you glitabo sunshine .
So far I have done nothing, but am still seated in bed looking at GN ,having been brought 2 cups of tea by lovely OH,and a cuddle with E....have some leaflets of places of interest that we are going to look at maybe for a short outing later smile

Oldgreymare Sat 22-Sept-12 09:47:22

Good news indeed glitabo.
Greatnan envy May I join the queue of house-sitters?

Greatnan Sat 22-Sept-12 09:40:55

Congratulations, glitabo, what a relief for you.

I am now installed in Granjura's house in Switzerland for three weeks, with my favourite dog and cat, while she and her OH trot to the UK. It is nice to have company, even the four-legged kind!

Ariadne Sat 22-Sept-12 05:55:47

Here I am in DS2's house in Cheltenham! We drove down yesterday in two very full cars, and now have little to do before we move into the Bideford house on Monday. And the reason I'm awake so early is that I fell asleep at 10.00! smile

Great news Glitabo.
Anno, I`d have gone doolally and screamed the place down!
Today, I`ve been pretty miserable. I let Pepper out at 3.15am, and haven`t seen him since. We`ve driven around looking for him, have rung both local vets in case he gets handed in, and keep opening the door in case he`s there. I know cats sometimes go off for a while then come back, but he`s not done it before, and I really miss him being around.

Ana Fri 21-Sept-12 22:38:09

Oh, how I sympathise on both counts, anno! shock

annodomini Fri 21-Sept-12 22:04:34

So pleased for you, glitabo smile sunshine

Today began at 4am when I woke up and noticed a black splodge on the ceiling above my bed. Put my glasses on and confirmed that it was a HUGE spider. Nothing for it - simply had to get out of bed and haul the vacuum cleaner from the bottom of the linen cupboard. Felt guilty about sucking up the poor beast. Later in the day I had to go to the dentist and had my wobbly bridge re-cemented. So - a day of great excitement....wink
