Hurrah - I can finally post photos, so I have posted one of my four great-grand-daughters and myself. I will post some wedding photos when I have time.

Greatnan your great-grandaughters are just beautiful. What fabulous photos, especially the one with you all together. smile

Thank you, when, it took me some time to work out how to post it as it was not taken with my own camera but I got instructions from their grandmother (it still feels odd to think of my little girl as a nana herself even though she will be 50 next year!)

Lovely photos, Greatnan! I particularly liked the one with two little ones on the sofa! smile

Lovely photos, just a pity we can`t enlarge them to see their little faces better.

greatnan what gorgeous photos. smile

They are much better on my Facebook page. I think this site still has some way to go technically, as whenever I posted photos on ex-pat forums they could be enlarged by clicking on them. I tried to change the size, but it didn't seem to work.
My new grand-daughter-in-law is the mother of the two little girls with white blonde hair. She is 24 and still has very blonde hair quite naturally which is unusual for anyone outside Scandanavia. My eldest grand-daughter is the mother of the other two - she will be the next to get married. The girls have not seen much of each other as one pair live in Kent and one in Yorkshire, but they got on famously. Are they second cousins as their parents are cousins?

Thanks for posting the photo's Greatnan, I do enjoy looking at other people's photographs - and you've got some pretty special ones. smile

I think "the girls" are first cousins, once removed, if their parents are cousins. Their children are second cousins.

So my cousins' children are my first cousins once removed, and my grandson's second cousins.

I think.....

In short.... yes, they are cousins of some sort or another!!!!!

Ella46 Sat 18-Aug-12 08:38:07

I think they're second cousins she says, stirring madly grin

Bags Sat 18-Aug-12 08:53:19

grin Yeah. Every time I work it out, or someone explains it, I think I understand, and then my brain says..... eh? ....so, if....? .....are you sure that's right?

grin

chimps and gorillas are our cousins too. Why worry over details?

glammanana Sat 18-Aug-12 08:59:48

If we thought about for much longer we would all be cousins LOL.
Fab photo's greatnan lovely little girls what joy.

Greatnan Sat 18-Aug-12 09:10:24

We took them all to the lovely gardens of a stately home and they had a great time together. I love the feel of a little hand in mine and my youngest grandchild, Patrick, is a bit too old at 13 so it is great to have another generation now!

Barrow Sat 18-Aug-12 09:28:01

Sorry if I am being a bit dense but how do you view the photos - can't see a button or link

glammanana Sat 18-Aug-12 09:33:57

Barrow click on greatnan in blue and then scroll down to photo's when her profile page comes up,hoping this explains it for you flowers

Elegran Sat 18-Aug-12 09:35:55

If you have the same grandparent(s) you are first cousins. The same greatgrandparent(s) second cousins.

If there is a generation difference between you,, so that you don't quite fit either first or second cousin, you are first cousins once removed. Two generations, twice removed.

And so ad infinitum, until you get back to Adam and Eve and we are all umpteenth cousins, greatly removed. We are a' Jock Tamson's bairns (or monkeys' uncles)

Then you get that Victorianism "cousins germane" for first cousins, which is nothing to do with Teutonic connections, but is germane in the same sense as "relevant".

Sorry, diversion into pedants'' corner. Yes lovely photos of some beautiful children.

Barrow Sat 18-Aug-12 09:37:44

Thanks glammanana found them! Love the picture of the two girls on the sofa

Greatnan Sat 18-Aug-12 09:38:29

Barrow - I live in a tiny ski resort in the French Alps, but travel widely as I have family in New Zealand and England and I also spend one holiday a year in Egypt for the coral.
My ability to post photos has disappeared again so I was lucky to be able to post the one with the great-grandchildren.

Lovely pics Soop!

jeni Sat 18-Aug-12 18:52:24

Agreed!

Greatnan Sat 18-Aug-12 19:08:53

Also agreed - what a happy little chap the wee man is!

Annobel Sat 18-Aug-12 19:12:38

What a sweet wee boy, soop. I took a pic of my GD today, wearing the glasses she bought yesterday at Claire's when she had a shopping trip with big sis. Did you know that geek specs are the latest must-have on-trend accessory for the junior fashionista? She will be ten next month - little minx! Can't show the picture as it came out all blurry - think the camera is on its last legs.
