I have a lefthanded GC and I use a mouse on the right hand side to get him used to using both hands.

My son was left handed when was a boy and his teacher made him write with his left hand

Anagram Sat 18-Aug-12 16:00:36

confused

DD2 is left-handed. DD3 and I use the mouse on the "family" Mac on the left too. Not a problem. Easier than using it on the right now that we've leftified the buttons on it. Not sure I could manage with a rightie any more.

Sook Sat 18-Aug-12 18:07:05

I am lefthanded too. I have always used the mouse on the right hand side. I find that myself and other lefties I know are very adaptable in a right handed world we have to be grin.

nonu as a child I was one of four lefties in my class. We were made to sit together with our right hands tucked underneath our bottoms or behind our backs. They had no idea what they were up against as the majority of my maternal female relations were also lefties.

My parents bought me a fountain pen with a special nib designed for lefties but this didn't help in exams as by then I had developed a peculiar method of holding my pen which made writing painstakingly slow but very very neat.

I don't understand this business of left-handers being 'made' to write with their left hands - surely that's what they would naturally do? confused

Nonu Sat 18-Aug-12 18:36:32

{People are either right or left handed duh !!!

Anagram Sat 18-Aug-12 18:42:46

I know that, Nonu.

Why did your son's teacher have to make him write with his left hand if he was already left-handed? It's a simple enough question.

jeni Sat 18-Aug-12 18:43:10

I think she meant right?

Anagram Sat 18-Aug-12 18:44:08

And Sook as well?

numberplease Sat 18-Aug-12 18:51:07

Can`t cope with a mouse, give me my touchpad anytime!

Nonu Sat 18-Aug-12 18:53:28

Sook , had to read your message twice and I2m not taking the mick when u said "lefties" I thought you meant your political persuasion, then the penny dropped LOL daft me

Nonu Sat 18-Aug-12 18:55:26

Jeni has clarified it , was a typo . grin

Sook Sat 18-Aug-12 19:12:38

Embarrasing moment doh blush I meant sit on our left hand or with our left hand behind our backs.

Some people are able to write legibly with both hands I suppose that means that they don't have a dominant side of the brain? I believe it's called (ambidextorous)I think . I haven't checked, before somebody comes down on me like a ton of bricks grin.

Nonu Lefties (1 in 11 of the population are lefthanded) have been around a lot longer than polictical persuasions. grin

We have a saying.....Left handers do it differently wink

Annobel Sat 18-Aug-12 19:18:30

DS1 is right-handed and plays tennis with his left hand; his father is left-handed but plays golf with right-handed clubs. I am fairly certain that my mother should have been left-handed because her hand-writing sloped backwards and in the days when she went to infant school (World War One), children were simply not allowed to use their left hands. When my right hand was out of action, I had a big problem using a mouse left-handed.

Anagram Sat 18-Aug-12 19:25:10

Well, I'm glad that's been clarified - thought I must have missed some radical 'if we make them use the hand they want to, they'll do the opposite' teaching method of the past!

Nonu Sat 18-Aug-12 19:40:06

Well sook peaflower I have a notion u may be right , my son , my brother and now DG are all left handed and they are "people in their own right " if you get me heyho

Sook Sat 18-Aug-12 20:10:39

Annobel my hand-writing slopes to the right. I hold my pen awkwardly and this caused problems in the past as it made me very slow. When I sat my O levels many moons ago I failed them simply because I ran out of time. I re-sat them 10 years later as I managed to change my style of writing....horrible not as neat but it did the trick and I passed all with flying colours.

I am an avid knitter and my knitting goes everywhere with me. It's a great conversation starter as yes I do knit in a very peculiar fashion that's all my own. grin

Nonu grin

Nonu Sat 18-Aug-12 20:45:39

Well Anagram the bottom line is that my son"s teacher was WRONG ,

Anagram Sat 18-Aug-12 20:47:38

Of course it's wrong to try to make a left-hander use his or her right hand. That wasn't in question.

Nonu Sat 18-Aug-12 20:56:46

You"ve lost me girlfriend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
