In my youthety, I used to go out caving most weekends with our local university caving club, while my mother was at home thinking she would never see me again. I thought I had a head for heights, but when DH and I were stationed in Holland, we went on a "jolly" with sundry others (English, Germans, Americans) to spend a weekend walking up a mountain in Bavaria. There were about twenty of us in all. I was ok the first day - it was like walking up Cader Idris on the Pony Path, but longer! We overnighted in a hut about halfway up, and the next day we were very high, the paths got steeper and narrower, and my nerve failed me completely so I had to turn back under sympathetic guidance. Fortunately, the visibility got fairly invisible at that point and so everyone else decided to turn back too, so I didn't feel so bad. The next day, all but five of us went off to finish the walk in fine weather (DH included). I spent a lovely day at the Mittenhutte drawing the scenery! I have kayaked on fresh water but never on the sea, but on our holiday this year in Pembrokeshire, we twice, from the coastal path, saw groups of people sea kayaking and it looked like a lot of fun - especially the bit where you have to surf your kayak onto the beach in some secluded cove! Go for it Grannyknot!
