Got chatting to an old friend who I bumped into in the supermarket yesterday - and she mentioned she was just back from a naturist holiday. I was stunned! Would never have had her down as the type to whip off her clothes in public. Made me wonder whether I have been too judgemental about the whole idea of naturism. It's not that I'm a prude - just self conscious and with wobbly bits to boot. Mentioned it to my husband last night and he thought it sounded great. Now I am panicking that he may want to give it a go some time.

Has anyone ever tried it? How long did it take you to be able to relax and enjoy it?

Following on from "The last leg" (which I love), I am going to say "Is it all right to ask, what happens if a man gets a sti**y when he sees a beautiful woman?" If I were his wife I am not sure I would be best pleased ;)

nanpug - I am shocked! I am quite sure that none of the rest of us had thought any such thing!!

I went to a nudist island once when I was about 18 and on hols with another girl. We were offered a lift in a rowboat by a middle-aged couple and their very untrendy son. Father was short and wearing the longest khaki Scouts-style shorts you can imagine. When we got to the island and he stripped off we realised why he wore his shorts so long - I did not have my glasses on - but I did not need them!!!! Bruised knees spring to mind!

It was a lovely experience swimming in the warm sea in the nude. But there were no Adonises (?plural of Adonis) loafing around - just middle-aged ladies with their Caesarian scars and their handbags and knitting!

This thread conjures up some nightmares visions! grin

Where does one look, if a male member decides to "perk up?"

In my experience the problem of arousal on a beach simply doesn't happen; well not often. If it does don't flaunt it, position yourself to disguise it or run into the sea. Such conditions rarely last for long and people tend to worry about them for little reason.

The only naked men who flaunt themselves are solitary male "nudists" lurking in remote dunes known for pickup.
We were on a beach in spain last year where we were the only couple. My DH, bless him, really thought i was joking that the solitary males, wandering about pensively with no clothes on, were as it were trying to find a boyfriend. I hasten to say that they were not showing off any untoward signs of arousal - and they did have nice bodies.
But we have stripped off in remote areas or nudist beaches in Greece.
Once, in a remote cove I god "buzzed" by the Greek airforce, who kept going round in circles in their fighter jets (DH was in the sea at the time)
Another time I dragged the poor man off to a nudist spa experience in California.
On the cliff top in Big Sur lies the Esalen Institute. Birthplace of the personal growth movement. (personal growth has nothing to do with previous topic!)
You could go and get a massage there with the pacific waves crashing far below. I thougth this would be an unmissable californian experience.
Sulfur hot springs fed the hot tubs. DH was terrified "Jess! Jess! where are you going?" "I'm just going to the loo dear". But he cheered up when a big bosomed therapist chatted him up. The massage was fantastic (if expensive) and it took several days to get the smell of rotten eggs out of skin and hair. Could do without the sight of other mens dangly bits though, not a pretty sight.

Jess grin grin. Thoroughly enjoyed reading that!

Men are very untidy looking aren't they. Obviously he was the prototype human. When eve was made they'd sorted out the teething problems.

JessM Tue 19-Feb-13 12:23:44

Glad it brightened your morning butty

Mishap Tue 19-Feb-13 13:12:40

When I hear male politicians and others pontificating I just imagine them in the nude - men look so comic unclothed that you can no longer take them seriously!

annodomini Tue 19-Feb-13 13:19:32

Some of them might make you feel more than a little nauseous, Mishap. A certain Mr Pickles?

Galen Tue 19-Feb-13 13:35:53

I go one better! I imagine them nude on the toilet!

My wife and I have been naturist for over forty years we have met some wonderful human beings. It seems the English are always childish about their bodies and nudity talking as if everyone else has 'wobbley bits' other than them. The joy of swimming nude playing tennis or just sitting reading a book free of clothes is very therapeutic. It's not those of us in the naturist clubs one has to worry about its the pervs peeping through the fence.

NotTooOld Mon 04-Apr-16 21:34:26

My DH and I have also been naturist for many years, both abroad and in the UK. There is an organisation for naturists in this country called British Naturism. Take a look at the BN website and you will see that we are a perfectly respectable bunch of people - we just think that 'nothing's better'.

Really enjoyed reading this thread from my pre-GN days. When the DCs were young we had a camping holiday at Royan in South West France. On the beach next to the site were sunbathers in various states of undress - even I had daringly removed my bikini top. OH took the DCs along the beach for a paddle while I basked under our large sun umbrella. I decided to give OH a surprise when he returned so carefully untied the little bows at the sides of my bikini bottoms and slipped them off. At that moment a gust of wind blasted across the beach and the umbrella went bowling across the sand threatening to take out unsuspecting sunbathers. There was nothing for it. I had to leap up in the altogether and chase it across the sand. No more nude sunbathing for me!

NotTooOld Tue 05-Apr-16 18:34:48

Oh go on, oldgoat, you mght find you enjoy it! Incidentally, from your name I thought you were a bloke until I read on.

pompa Tue 05-Apr-16 18:49:51

Now I know why I haven't tried naturism, I would hate to be thought "untidy".

And, I beg to disagree, some bodies are disgusting, I have one.

oldgoat Tue 05-Apr-16 22:30:45

NotTooOld perhaps I should change my name to 'nannygoat' to avoid any confusion.

Stansgran Wed 06-Apr-16 10:14:41

So what happens if you have a colostomy bag? And if you carry a towel round to sit on why not wear knickers? It baffles me.

NotTooOld Wed 06-Apr-16 10:27:12

Stansgran - naturist venues are not just for the body-perfect brigade, far from it. Why be ashamed of a colostomy bag or, indeed, any of the scars, lumps and bumps that we all collect over a lifetime? Naturists are not judgemental and are generally one of the friendliest and happiest groups of people you would ever meet. However, if you prefer to keep your knickers on you should do so!

Nannylovesshopping Wed 06-Apr-16 10:31:31

Love skinny dipping, but that's itgrin

Stansgran Wed 06-Apr-16 15:13:19

But but but I would be fascinated by a colostomy bag filling up and would have to be nudged and told not to stare like some five year old. I don't think I would like to be so close to people who ooze from their orifices so much that they have to carry a towel around with them to stop them soiling the furniture.

NotTooOld Wed 06-Apr-16 16:52:55

Stansgran - I think you'd better stick to your cossie! grin
