Can I send bacon in the post to France - anyone know?

Bacon is full of preservatives, not least salt. put in a box with some polystyrene pieces and one or two sandwich box sized frozen blocks. Seal up and write sweets or chocolates on the outside. Post by airmail. Nay problems. Otherwise send in temperature controlled boxes for shipping from Amazon. x

What a shame, Greatnan: given that I had no objection to carrying pork pies around Europe, a few rashers of bacon wouldn't have bothered me at all.

mamie the same way of slicing in Spain ask for mas/meos for more or less rashers and I used to have it sliced on their machine at I think no.2 and it came out a reasonable thickness,I also used to pick my steak and have it minced in front of me twice none of the added stuff that you get here in UK,and not a lot of difference in price either.

glass -! DH is being very sarcastic now, and saying "Huh, why don't you send them half-a-dozen eggs while you're at it?" He has no soul, and no sense of adventure, either! Bonny sight that he is, sitting there in his ancient dressing gown, reading the Radio Times to see what he can control on the telly tonight...

I would have asked you to bring me some bacon, Anno, if I had thought of it - but perhaps it would have been a bit insensitive as you don't eat it meat!

You could try sending bacon to Denmark on a "coals to newcastle" basis.

Well, whenever I went on holiday to whatever winter or summer resort my DS was working in, I always took him a Melton Mowbray pork pie. No ill effects on him and no arrest for me.

It would be much easier to ask a friend who is going to the UK to bring you some back (guess who?)

I can do that at the big Casino, Mamie, but at my smaller shop you just get whatever is in the packs!

You have to tell them how thick you want your poitrine fumee sliced! You go to the charcuterie or the charcuterie counter in the supermarket and they will slice it from the big piece as you want. I would like to be able to give you the exact number of the slice, but it varies, so you need to say moins / plus epaisse according to how you want it.

DGD had told me that they just weren't able to find 'proper bacon', so that must have been the sort she came across, Greatnan. You've all been very helpful, so I'll go for it - I'll buy a couple of packs of 'smoked' and a couple of packs of crumpets (pikelets where I come from), and get them out to them! And if I'm 'done' for it.....I shall refer the Customs to GN!

I find all 'bacon' products here to be as thin as tissue paper - or else you can have four slices which are about 1/4 inch thick.

I have had Easter Eggs delivered to Ireland from British Cornershop.co.uk , see Elegran's post. It was good service and not too expensive.
I know you can buy Easter eggs in Ireland but these had to come in a parcel from Grandma.
