Evening all, not sure if this has been done before, or that there may be a similar thread, but here we go;

1) Supermarkets who make their parking spaces just that little bit too small to get ones trolley between cars, meaning that one has to wheel the trolley around and approach from the rear.

2) Bloody silly use of "yourself" or "myself" when either "you" or "me" would be fine. (recent example in a letter, "If you have any queries, do please feel free to get in touch with myself" Aaaaaarrrrgh!

How can you tell what Lily?

How can you tell on the M62?

whenim64 Tue 25-Sept-12 15:22:31

nellie I know about those, and have been held in highways traffic breaks when accidents are further ahead and officers need time to clear the road, but there have been a few when there have been no highways people or police, no cones being put out further on, and no explanation when I've phoned to enquire from police. I guess one might have coincided with petrol protests, but this has happened a few times now, and if trucks are protecting someone trying to gather speed after a problem navigating a steep hill, they would have no need to play cat and mouse in the outside/4th lane. The M62 is notorious for trucks intimidating drivers of small cars, tail-gating, and driving in convoys to control the road. It's always on the east-heading side between Swinton and Whitefield, and locals have speculated whether it's UK drivers trying to menace continental drivers who are heading back to Hull, but they try to stop all drivers getting past. Grrrr!

Littlenellie Tue 25-Sept-12 15:01:06

Think sometimes they use a rolling roadblock if there are repairs or cones being put out when

whenim64 Tue 25-Sept-12 14:52:46

Thanks nellie but what on earth is a rolling road block? Why do they feel entitled to stop traffic when the road ahead for a couple of miles was clear, and there were no hazards or lane closures? And why not have some sort of notice on a truck that explains if there is a need to do this, or have a police escort? Strange!

Lilygran Tue 25-Sept-12 14:04:31

Yes, I agree the roaring up the closing lane is intimidating.

Nanadogsbody Tue 25-Sept-12 13:57:28

Yes, but there's a time to filter in. I am talking about the queue jumpers. We all know those who roar up the (usually empty by now) lane and then try to intimidate. I usually find people very good on slip roads.

Lilygran Tue 25-Sept-12 13:47:14

It looks lime some kind of queue jumping but it isn't really. The advice is that traffic will move more quickly if you DO stay in the lane that is about to be closed and then filter into the open lane. It's the same on busy slip roads opening onto a busy motorway. As long as people let you filter!

Nanadogsbody Tue 25-Sept-12 13:39:10

Motorist, usually men, who will not get into the correct lane well in advance when there is a lane closure. They wait until reaching the final 'in' arrow and expect others to let them in or try to force their way in. angry

Ana Tue 25-Sept-12 13:14:27

What, to avoid all being done for speeding?

Littlenellie Tue 25-Sept-12 13:14:17

ana the impression I got is because they can grin ..but sometimes they are carrying a hazardous load which is not always apparent or so I am told.

Lilygran Tue 25-Sept-12 13:07:11

Convoy!!

Ana Tue 25-Sept-12 13:06:04

But what's the point of it, nellie? confused

Littlenellie Tue 25-Sept-12 12:35:58

when have spoken to my brother regarding this phenomena with the lorries,as an experienced HGV continental all singing all dancing driver of many years standing.....you drove through a rolling road block.....lol

glitabo Tue 25-Sept-12 12:28:08

Sod's law

JO4 Tue 25-Sept-12 12:11:32

Not worth a new thread for this, so I'll put it here.

Why is always when I've just hoovered and washed the kitchen floor that I drop the newly watered pot plant and get wet compost all over it? confused

feetlebaum Tue 25-Sept-12 11:43:48

@Faye : 'I prefer no full stops after letters, such as the BBC or MOT.'

That's fine - that is the modern way. But when the stops ARE used (as indicators that the preceding letter is an initial or abbreviation) then they should ALL be there! (Harrumph!)

petallus Tue 25-Sept-12 11:30:44

Thanks both, I see now that I was very unclear in my post so my fault smile

Greatnan Tue 25-Sept-12 11:30:31

After I dropped Anno at Geneva airport, I was driving home on the motorway and had to go through a long tunnel. The speed limit was 100 kph and as I was fined €90 a few months ago for travelling at 61 in a 50 zone I was sticking rigidly to the limit. A huge lorry came right up to my bumper and began sounding his horn and put on his main beam. He kept it up right through the tunnel, even though it was two lane and he could have overtaken. I don't think this is typical of Swiss lorry drivers, but it was a bit unnerving. If I had not been a stroppy old woman I could have got very upset. As it was, I took quite a perverse pleasure in maintaining the legal speed.

Ana Tue 25-Sept-12 11:08:47

Me too, petallus - I thought it was uncharisteristic of you, that's why I queried your meaning! Sorry smile

baublesbanglesandb Tue 25-Sept-12 10:53:52

petallus sorry, I was too quick off the mark there. flowers

whenim64 Tue 25-Sept-12 10:51:44

Lily yes, me too! I wondered if they were conversing with each other to be able to close off the traffic lanes like that.

petallus Tue 25-Sept-12 10:46:48

Ana and Baubles no I meant the exact opposite .

I meant I get irritated by people who criticise or have a laugh at other people for incorrect grammar and so on.

My education was awful, sec mod and left school at 15.

I did go on to further ed as an adult though.

baublesbanglesandb Tue 25-Sept-12 10:14:39

petallus perhaps you could let me know what level of education you reached so that I will know if Im educated enough to converse with you.
