"Today I've been is full" So I have started What I did Today, as I have something to be a granny bore with.

Today I became a gran for real. DD had my 1st GC 8 days after due date. Several days of twinges and a bad night.
DD rang me at 12;15 today.Just seen midwife at clinic, 3cm and waiting for the taxi to hospital. 5pm I had a phone call, baby had arrived at at 3:30 pm. That is 3 to 10cm in 3hrs! Noah Alexander ***. 6lb 11ozs. Forceps as baby was tiring but amazingly quick DD and SIL surprised by the speed. DD tired and sore but says she is totally in love. I am visiting tomorrow 60 miles away. What a day smile smile smile smile

Ordered greetings card for - er - you know - before New Year's Eve, and checked my Yuletide address database... deleting those who had died since last time... (only a couple, fortunately).

Ordered my groceries from Sainsbury's, for delivery Friday.

Ordered a DVD box set in Amazon's sale.

Cleaned my blasted printer cartridges AGAIN - I don't know if there's something funny going on with the ink I buy, but I'm suddenly having to clean the things every other day, or there's no black ink printing at all. Weird.

So a busy morning - and all without removing ample buttocks from chair!

kittylester Tue 09-Oct-12 15:13:08

Impressive grin

I don't know which ink cartridges you use feetlebaum but my husband always buys coloured ones and black and white ones! confused

OGM, Mia is the white cat we went to see this morning, with a view to adopting her, we just have to wait now for a home inspection by the Cats Protection League people. And Crimson, no, she`s not deaf!

crimson Tue 09-Oct-12 15:27:34

Pleased to hear that, number smile. I'm sure the 'inspection' is just a formality. Is she a sweetie?

gma Tue 09-Oct-12 15:48:22

Thanks kittylester, numberplease, gracesmum,Nanadogsbody,Bags and oldgreymare for your good wishes. Just felt that I had to tell everyone!!!!

soop Tue 09-Oct-12 15:52:00

As for the email joke...hilarious. Have forwarded to a few broad-minded pals. grin

I did some cutting out and sewing today!! This may not seem much but I broke my right wrist very badly in April (both bones and had a plate in) and then, while attempting to get fit afterwards, I fell again at the beginning of August and broke my right shoulder and damaged my left hand again (tho didn't break any more bones). Please don't ask how I did it. Oh ok, I fell off a treadmill! hmm Pause for laughter!
Anyway doing some sewing on my quilt is a big step forward. Next step is driving my poor neglected car again.

Bags Tue 09-Oct-12 16:11:35

Hi, quilting! It's so good to hear that you are getting back into the swing of things smile. Treadmill? Tell us more!

Quiltinggran Tue 09-Oct-12 16:43:16

Oh no! I got that wrong. It was the left wrist I broke in April and the right shoulder in August so had both arms/hands out of action! Now I'm going bonkers and can't tell my right from my left!
Thanks Bags. Would you believe I cunningly managed to press the wrong button on the treadmill at the gym and couldn't reach/didn't have enough strength in my left hand to press the emergency button and ...... well you know the rest!
I shall be going up to my cottage in Wester Ross early November (tho not drivingsad) - broken limbs permitting! I broke the wrist the day before I was due up in April and the shoulder three days before I was due up in August! Is someone trying to tell me something, do you think? At least I managed to avoid the midges this year.

Bags Tue 09-Oct-12 17:07:15

Safe journey, quilting! I hope the cottage isn't feeling neglected after your long absence. I love Wester Ross.

Quiltinggran Tue 09-Oct-12 17:09:56

Luckily kind friends give the cottage lots of TLC in my absences, and cut the grass too!

DH and I have been repairing fences and moving chickens on to better land for foraging. The last of the apples need picking but they'll have to wait until Thursday. We watched buzzards rising on thermals above our field as we walked the dogs and then finished building a wood heap. Woodburner is lit and I'm now looking forward to a well earned G&T wink

annodomini Tue 09-Oct-12 18:14:08

Now back from my weekend break, having spread my cold virus through the train - sorry! I will now quarantine myself for the rest of the week and spare my friends and acquaintances.

Grannylin Tue 09-Oct-12 21:26:50

I confess, I confess, I'm watching Mama Mia.....again! blush

glassortwo Tue 09-Oct-12 21:31:46

Anne58 Tue 09-Oct-12 21:49:57

Please please please can you all do me a favour?

If you see me on here tomorrow before noon, tell me to sod off and do all the things that I didn't do today?

(The excuse that I made to myself about waiting for the chap to come and look at/ mend my car was pretty feeble)

Total sum of my efforts today? Walked to the village shop to get cat biscuits to avoid a feline protest march, and made two freezer tubs worth of soup.

What I should have done?

Job applications
Ironing of Mr P's shirts so that I don't have to do them all in a rush on Sunday
Put a load of washing on
Hoover up the tumble weed/cats fluff that eddies around the laminate floor

Be firm with me ladies!

annodomini Tue 09-Oct-12 22:10:01

Watching the Great British Bake-Off has made me crave something sweet - just as well I have nothing of the sort in the house. grin

Anne58 Tue 09-Oct-12 22:12:41

Ooooh just remembered an individual tub of the excellent local clotted cream ice cream is in the freezer!

annodomini Tue 09-Oct-12 22:13:46

phoenix, how could you? That's just cruel.

Anne58 Tue 09-Oct-12 22:16:09

Sorry blush (Good thing I didn't mention the rum and raisin one as well)

Comparatively busy day today. In morning went to the adult education class at the Zoo, this terms subject "Animal Science" Last week was "cognitive research" on squirrel monkeys - lots of Ahhh factor. Today was the turn of the Zoo vet who told us about how they had dealt with various outbreaks of illness at the Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park. Learnt a great deal about mycobacterial infections and the tests they do to diagnose them, preferably before the animals show symptoms and have spread the illness to their pals. Saw slides from autopsies of those who did not make it, then enjoyed an excellent sandwich, so big I had to bring half of it home in a paper napkin.

Did a load of washing, folded and put away the previous batch. Hung up current batch. Fancied some grapes, walked to shops to buy some, found that some Cadbury's whole nut bars were three for a pound so bought them too, came home and ate one. Browsed GN.

Ate other half of sandwich and some grapes, resisted another whole nut bar. Went to Photo Club meeting where the chap who usually brings his laptop to display everyone's pictures from memory sticks could not make it, so someone else had brought theirs. Unfortunately most people have their pictures as slide shows on Open Office, which his laptop did not have, so the display was a bit curtailed. Never mind, the coffee, chocolate biscuits and blether still worked. Walked home and browsed GN again.

By my usual standards of housework, I have been a domestic goddess today! I seriously cleaned my bedroom and a bath room. Washed the windows and the wardrobe mirrors, then polished them all. Vacuumed the rooms. Changed the bed, washed the bedding, line dried and then ironed them. While the pillows aired in the sunshine.

That will do for another six months then! shock

After all this I went to choir and had to mime all the Alto parts with notes above top D. Why do composers write such high stuff for us 2nd Altos??
Perhaps its time I joined the tenors instead! Would that make me a Tena lady? wink

Night Night all! moon

soop Wed 10-Oct-12 11:51:25

Elegran ...your energy is to be saluted. Such a busy lady! We have enjoyed the tasty bread that you made for Gally's do.

I'm feeling a bit iffy. Tight chest and stomach that appears to be on the cusp of the fast-spin cycle. hmm

Early Friday morning I've further tests [a different hospital this time.] My son has kindly paid for us to stay in a nearby Premier Inn on Thursday night. It's very helpful not to have to leave here at the crack of dawn.
