Exhausted! Picked up my little grandsons from afterschool club. Long day when you're just 4. One schoolbag missing, but it could turn up tomorrow. New school trousers frayed around the hem - daughter says so are the other three pairs! First tiredness tantrum when we got home, and I foolishly said 'no, you do not climb up to get the cereal box out of the top cupboard. Amid tears and 'want my mummy' (had this with the other one a fortnight ago) got an agreement to eat the chicken wraps and yogurt with strawberries, but that was abandoned for 'want a treat.'
Next boundary set and rejected, when I gently reminded them to continue with what they had been given. More tears. Into pyjamas, then they wanted to swap PJs, so ok, did that. Up the stairs for a refusal to brush teeth, so I brushed teeth and they burst into tears and were ready to phone Childline. Asked then why were they crying now - 'cos i a oyed.' (Translation - because i am annoyed). Into bed and more tears when a trampoline jump went wrong. Two stories, agreed to leave the landing light on, then everyone back out of bed to see if my watch had got to the time mummy was due home. More tears because mummy was still driving home, but I steeled myself, tucked them in, gave them a cuddle and went downstairs. As I got to the bottom step, it all stopped and a little voice said 'nana's gone downstairs now.' Happy chat followed, then fast asleep.
Mummy comes home fom late teaching night, bursts into tears because she's just done a 12 hour day and didn't see her angels for bedtime. Mopped her up and came home. I'm going to bed now.
