"Today I've been is full" So I have started What I did Today, as I have something to be a granny bore with.

Today I became a gran for real. DD had my 1st GC 8 days after due date. Several days of twinges and a bad night.
DD rang me at 12;15 today.Just seen midwife at clinic, 3cm and waiting for the taxi to hospital. 5pm I had a phone call, baby had arrived at at 3:30 pm. That is 3 to 10cm in 3hrs! Noah Alexander ***. 6lb 11ozs. Forceps as baby was tiring but amazingly quick DD and SIL surprised by the speed. DD tired and sore but says she is totally in love. I am visiting tomorrow 60 miles away. What a day smile smile smile smile

visited Mr WW he is still having loads of tests. Had to leave early as he was going for an echo thing (I think) and a CT scan, which seems somewhat full on? Apparently there is bacteria showing up in his blood, and they can't get to the bottom of it. They had started on antibiotics but have now stopped them as they want to find out exactly what is wrong. They are definately going to fit a pacemaker but nothing can be done until he is over this infection. He is feeling like s* and it is upsetting to see him, as everthing well all his joints seem so painful. Keep hoping for better days. He hasn't washed since he's been in I found out today so will ask if I can give him a once over tomorrow.
Had 2 glasses of wine and a chocolate orange for dinner last night!!

annodomini Fri 19-Oct-12 18:24:34

That doesn't say much for the quality of care in that hospital, WW. Poor man must feel most uncomfortable not having been washed. I hope you can sort this issue out.
That sounds like my kind of dinner grin - but do try to take good care of yourself. smile

harrigran Fri 19-Oct-12 18:41:29

WW how awful for Mr W, where are the nurses who use to take pride in their care ? When I used to work on Nights every patient was given a bowl or washed and bed made before 8am. I know patients aren't kept in bed now but help should still be available.
Take care of yourself too flowers

glassortwo Fri 19-Oct-12 19:33:51

jeni are you Ok?

white I always think you feel so much better in yourself after a wash and clean Pjs.

gracesmum Fri 19-Oct-12 19:45:45

flowers feeling for you - the whole tedium of tests, waiting for results and "mysterious" infections. It is true that once you start on antibiotics it is harder and slower to get cultures which is why when DH has had one of his weird infections, they can't start him off on a-b's until they have taken tube after tube of blood. Echo and CT scan would be a good start and I hope they can rule out any damage to the heart. Good luck - and maybe something a little more nourishing than just the chocolate orange next time....?smile

whitewave Fri 19-Oct-12 19:51:23

grace thankyou for that - I am finding it all somewhat frightening because as a family we are incredibly lucky and have had nothing to do with hospitals etc. except my breast cancer but I don't count that. Everything is such a mystery if you have never had to bother with such stuff. It is so good when people explain things. DH is in the high dependency unit and the staff are good - well except the washing bit but I can do that if only he had said before!!!

crimson Fri 19-Oct-12 20:37:35

Really chuffed tonight because I've got the sound working on my computer [fiddled about with a few connections]. But really sorry to hear you're having such a rotten time whitewave.

Sook Fri 19-Oct-12 21:13:22

Look after yourself too whitewave. It's easy to become rundown when back and forth to hospital x

jeni Fri 19-Oct-12 21:39:45

I used to have to help my DH wash in hospital as there was no help given! That was 10 years ago!
When I was myself in hospital 3years ago and bed bound as my bp dropped! I had to ask!
When I was discharged. Definitly NOT self caring. I had to employ private nursing for help with easing and dressing and angel next door bought me in flasks and 'meals on feet!'

merlotgran Fri 19-Oct-12 22:08:56

I had an op to sort out a strangulated hernia three years ago and was given no help at all to wash or even to get on a commode. They wheeled it in and left it out of reach with the lid on!! I was sick after coming round from the op and being pushed back to the ward at an alarming speed. Nobody helped. After a couple of hours I managed to grab my jacket off the chair next to the bed and wrap it round my feet as I was shivering with cold. I could hear the 'angels' laughing and joking at the nearby nurses station angry

jeni Fri 19-Oct-12 22:10:45

Sounds normal!

Mishap Sat 20-Oct-12 16:53:35

Sorry Whitew to hear of hubby's troubles.

I have had good experience of hospital in the last fortnight after my fall, but the aftercare was a joke - no-one even bothered to ask how I might get on the loo, or even into the house! And no-one on the follow-up fracture clinic had any help to offer on that score either.

However, what I did today was to go outside!!!! This may sound a small thing, but, apart from hospital visits I have been cooped up indoors for 2 weeks - guaranteed to drive me nuts. But today, OH found the energy to take me up to the common in the car and we sat (he on a bench and me in the wheelchair) and soaked up the autumn sun and the beautiful views - I cannot tell you what a lift it has given me - wonderful!

Grannylin Sat 20-Oct-12 16:59:31

That's good to hear Mishap, now for brew and cupcake

annodomini Sat 20-Oct-12 17:32:10

Today my neighbours and I had another sewerage 'episode' - last one only ten months ago! Then it was wipes and condoms. Neighbour's son and Gf have moved out, so none of the latter! But still wipes which none of us could explain unless her cleaner has been using household wipes. The water company sorted it all out very efficiently.
In the car park opposite Waitrose, I spotted a squirrel having a meal out of a discarded crisp packet. I don't know what flavour they were!

artygran Sat 20-Oct-12 20:09:30

I made sloe gin! Not as many sloes about this year as last, though.

glassortwo Sat 20-Oct-12 20:18:21

arty I am not a gin lover but I love sloe gin, I think we are going to have problems with all produce over the next few months with the way the weather has been, are we going to have in in the shops to buy........... if we can afford it!!!!!

celebgran Sun 21-Oct-12 17:48:41

good to hear that mishap.

Was it you on the bbc programme about your grand son??

sorry to be nosey but i could not get iplayer to function well and kept coming and going before saying our broad band speed not up to it.

They did ring me about the police harassment thing some time ago but we found it too upsetting before and can see was a strain for the grand parents on the programme.

so pleased you managed to enjoy an outing.

Oldgreymare Sun 21-Oct-12 18:35:33

I've said goodbye to my sister who was here for the weekend. Now it's quiet ( we chatted away) and I'm sad.
This is one of those times when I am aware that my family is fairly scattered!

Today I went Dune Bashing! Wonderful fun. Am in Doha to visit daughter, son in law and three grand girls. They have been here six months and have been so busy just setting up their new life and getting used to horrendous traffic and driving. Will never complain about UK driving ever again.

Because I was coming they decided to do some tourist stuff and they knew I would love being driven up and down dunes and sliding down sideways etc. scary but fun. We arranged that the driver would be careful to start with as had five year old three year old and 18 month old girls with us. Haha, they loved being thrown about and were almost hysterical with laughter. Apparently some of these dune bashing trips are really scary even for grown ups but I think the driver got the balance just right and we all loved it and quite frankly it was probably enough for me.

We did some sand sledging, swam in the sea...really quite rough with the evening wind but again girls took it all on board and laughed their heads off while being soaked by waves. Both older ones are swimming well and water only waist height for quite a way so not too concerned about them but the babe, while she hung on tight to my swim suit, loved it all.

No riding the camps camels unfortunately as girls too small but we came really close to some wild ones roaming in desert so they were happy. Food was ok and sitting in Bedouin type tent really cosy.

All in all a great day and another ten or so to go. We can't do this kind of thing every day as girls would be too tired but am really just enjoying be around them all again.

granjura Mon 22-Oct-12 20:48:28

Cut all the perenials down, with OH's help for the thicker stems as my thumb is really giving me gyp - then picked all the remaining horse poo to put on the veg plots and rasberries- after lunch looked after my little neighbour, Joris, 19 months old - whilst his very pregnant mum went to be pampered. We had a lovely time watering the new trees, and both got soaked - thank goodness for our very warm Indian summer smile

Oldgreymare Mon 22-Oct-12 22:31:38

granjura lucky you! I don't think it has 'got light' all day, a dank, damp day. What an anticlimax after a lovely weekend with my sister.

RINKY that's very brave of you and the gc. Far too much excitement for me.....

Looking forward to my late b/day presie tomorrow: afternoon tea in the Dorchester, thanks to number 2 son. Wardrobe crisis looming! shock

Grannylin Mon 22-Oct-12 23:17:14

Have a lovely day OGM.. Are you going to the Pre- Raphs. exhibition too?

numberplease Mon 22-Oct-12 23:24:39

Rinky, just had to Google Doha, in my ignorance I didn`t know where it was!

kittylester Tue 23-Oct-12 11:28:58

We were planning to go to Westonbirt tomorrow but, as the weather is so dire, we have, instead, been planning a route round Leicester to see all the ancient bits we have taken for granted for the past 60+ years - prompted by that body in the car-park!!

We were then going to have a curry on the way home because, as Madhur Jaffrey told everyone watching Saturday kitchen, Leicester is the best place to go, in the whole of the UK, for proper curries. Of course, living here, we knew that but it's a good excuse! grin

A happy day was in prospect until we heard that a friend died in the early hours of the morning. It was not unexpected and her lovely children were all with her. I met her when our children started school together, we live on the same road and she has always been there! We will miss her. sad

Grannyeggs Tue 23-Oct-12 11:49:01
