What I did today.

kitty so sorry to hear that your friend has passed away I remember you mentioning her in an earlier post.

We went to Chester yesterday as the local shops are diabolical. DGD age 4 was very very excited at the prospect of walking along the Roman walls and looking in the shops. Unfortunately we only managed to walk a little way as DH just wasn't up to it. Not to worry I will take her another day.

Sad for you kitty, it is hard when you can remember happy days in years gone by and you wonder where they went. I often find myself echoing what I used to hear my father say "But he/she was no age" !
Sook - How is your DH doing now? We are still plodding along without any major problems so far, but the quality of DH's life outside the home has slipped even on this time last year. (I suppose if I am being honest, what I am also saying is my life, but shouldn't grumble, there are so many worse off!)

Today , I been having a good old clean up , getting in lots of treats , they like as my little poppets are arriving in about 3 hours, staying for several days so am beyond excited .

Today, I met up with anno for lunch and good company, and to check out a venue for the north-west Gransnetters to meet in the next few weeks. We have somewhere suitable and easy to get to, so anno will publicise it later. Get ready ladeez! It's time we all collided for a get-together!

gracesmum DH was 60 earlier this month and not a happy bunny . He has an appointment at the MRI this afternoon re the myopathy in his legs it's really getting him (and me) down. Sometimes I feel really resentful that my life is passing me by and I am not doing many (if any) of the things I would like to enjoy. I too look around and think I musn't grumble but just now and then I would like a normal day.

soop we don't actually live in Leicester but near Loughborough. Leicester is where my husband spent his formative years, having lived in Birstall from age 2 to going to university, and therefore the city we call home. We have the biggest Diwali Celebrations outside India and next to no racial tension despite a huge number of immigrants. And we have John Lewis!!

Stopped unpacking and started packing - off to a conference in Lille on Thursday for a few days, which I think will do us a world of good. We've worked so hard for the last few weeks, getting this house straight. It will be nice to concentrate on other things and meet friends and drinks lots of wine and have intelligent conversations over some good food.

I really am tired now.

We went to Leicester last year as my OH had graduation ceremony as in his day they did not do them so was invited back with few others was great time.

despite getting lost few times trying to find first hotel then de montfort place was long while ago he was there!!

kittylester; when is Diwali? I've been meaning to go to it for years but never make it. I always think it's later than it is.

kitty, I'm sorry to hear about your friend . I was at a friend's funeral today. There were no hymns, no prayers, just a man standing up and telling us all about J's life. There was a little screen with photos of different things she did, even one of her and her husband lying flat out, exhausted, on the top of a Munro that they'd climbed! A good bit of humour and lots of love.....what better way to say goodbye to your friends.
After that I came home, changed my clothes and went food shopping. Loaded with 2 large bags, I got on the wrong bus.....in the dark... and ended up miles away from home. So much for going to Aldi's to get things a bit cheaper... I had to get a taxi home, or wait about an hour for a bus!
I think I'll have an early night!

Today I visited my daughter who is pregnant and looking very unwell. Her waters broke at 30 weeks with her last baby and he was born two weeks later. I'm concerned because she now has high blood pressure, protein in her urine and oedema; resulting in the midwife saying she was at risk of pre-eclampsia. Her midwife hasn't seen her now for seven weeks and has just left for a three week holiday, in spite of saying that my daughter should regularly be having check-ups! My daughter's left two messages with the midwife supervisor, expressing her worries, but still hasn't had a response. Grrrr! I'm going to phone her myself tomorrow if we haven't heard from her by lunchtime.

I'd be asking for a doctor to see her and I hope she is getting as much rest as possible? She won't want to be admitted to hospital if she can help it, but I am amazed that the midwife's attitude is so relaxed. I know some people are all for pregnancy and childbirth being treatd as totally natural experiences, but I think I preferred the more regimented approach of my day where I had monthly appointments up to so many weeks, then fortnightly, then weekly, bearing my "wee" bottle each time. Hope all is well

I totally agree with gracesmum. If the pregnancy is high risk, given her last one, she should surely be monitored very regularly for the sake of the baby.
If she is at risk with signs of pre-eclampsia she should be regularly monitored - BP and urine.
You need to kick ass on this one activist and don't listen to any hippy nonsense!

You are right to be worried GA. With her history, she should have been monitored carefully. That midwife's attitude is completely unprofessional.

Feel a bit embarrassed to come on and say I have had a lovely day when there is so much worry and sadness about, so big ((((hugs))) all round before I start!
Grannylin Yes I did go to the Pre. Raphs first, had a huge grumble about the catering facilities tho' queued for ages, decided on salmon lasagne only to be told it was still in the oven and would take another 20 mins. Gave up and had a consoling as time was running out and I knew I'd be ages in the exhibition!
Just as well I'd 'saved' myself, tea was really delicious and generous. Sandwiches kept coming, could have had more scones too. As I was popping a pretty little pastry into my mouth, I heard the pianist play Happy Birthday and said to No. 2 son: it must be someones birthday. With that they brought ME a special birthday cake with candles, far too full to eat it so it has travelled home with me!!!!

Thanks Ella it was my b/day in August, this was a belated presie, which was why I was so surprised to hear that tune!!!

Even better....two birthdays!

I drove home from the Pyrenees - almost 700 kms in 7 hours plus two half hour breaks for coffee and lunch. I am a bit stiff! The motorway from Perpignan to Nimes is on the coastal plain, so it is a bit boring if you are alone. I found it much easier to keep alert when I turned North towards Valence and saw the mountains again. I do not think I will drive so far in one day again but it was too short to justify an overnight stop.

It is 3am having a sleepless night! Cheesed off as I scratched the car trying to park it yesterday when visiting DH in hospital - in the scheme of things it hardly matters - but car is DH's pride and joy so haven't yet had the courage to tell him wouldn't want to make matters worse!!

He is now under the diseases team as well as the cardiac team - nothing positive yet but live in hope.
