"Today I've been is full" So I have started What I did Today, as I have something to be a granny bore with.

Today I became a gran for real. DD had my 1st GC 8 days after due date. Several days of twinges and a bad night.
DD rang me at 12;15 today.Just seen midwife at clinic, 3cm and waiting for the taxi to hospital. 5pm I had a phone call, baby had arrived at at 3:30 pm. That is 3 to 10cm in 3hrs! Noah Alexander ***. 6lb 11ozs. Forceps as baby was tiring but amazingly quick DD and SIL surprised by the speed. DD tired and sore but says she is totally in love. I am visiting tomorrow 60 miles away. What a day smile smile smile smile

glass flowers
We had a lovely dinner with DD2 and DSil. So nice that one of the DCs still lives nearby.

What a weekend you've had, gracesmum. Worrying for you and very hard for your husband. I hope you find him comfortable and on the way to recovery tomorrow. flowers

glass I've hung my head in shame so often it's a wonder I don't now need a neck brace to hold my head up!! grin

Look at the time I'm posting and you will see that in order to catch up with what's going on I have to lurk in the middle of the night! confused
I've decided that I'm just too busy - but can't do much about it right now. After my son's wedding (in just less than two weeks now) I will have more free time.......I will have more free time.......I will have......

Gracesmum I haven't looked at this thread before and now I find that you have had your own problems while being so kind to me.
You'll be in my thoughts today too.

I an just glad that my heavy drinking stage was over before I got access to the internet! Now I can only blame stupidity when I post something daft.

Here's hoping that all of you with worries about your nearest and dearest get some good news today.

My grand-daughter sent me a copy of her first OU essay for me to comment on her spelling, grammar, etc. (Has to be some benefit in having an ex English teacher as a nan). I was truly delighted by it -she is dyslexic but had used spellcheck and her grammar was impeccable. It was also really interesting - about the effect of street furniture on the way people perceive and use public spaces. I am so proud of her - she has two childen under four and works long shifts at a local hotel to fit in with her fiance's working hours.

Turning on the pooter this morning, I immediately spotted a news item on Yahoo about the young man I referred to when we were in MK A&E, who had accidentally "hanged"himself on Saturday night. Apparently it happened in a gay nightclub in MK which has a noose as a "prop" for photographs ( the amusement factor of which eludes me). He is recovering but what stupidity.
DH has had a good night and I will be going down to visit him today. Thanks for good wishes. Whitewave I hope you too get good news and Learner I can only imagine what you are going through at the moment, I hope having your family around you is a strength and a comfort. flowers

Don't like, feetlebaum - I am sorry if my reference to my laptop as the "pooter" grated with you.

A unique experience for me today. Surprise visit with son and DIL-to-be to see their expected baby on a 4-D scan. My grandson is due in February. Had a lovely time, ooh-ing and aah-ing over a cross between a beautiful baby and a giraffe! grin

grannyactivist Mon 29-Oct-12 13:29:53

when my next grandchild is due a week or two later than yours; although I'm expecting s/he will put in an early appearance as daughter's waters broke at 30 weeks last time. bags has a similar happy event due then too if I remember correctly. I'm quite anxious about this pregnancy, but daughter's seeing the consultant on Wednesday which I hope will put my mind at rest.

whenim64 Mon 29-Oct-12 13:42:48

Exciting times ahead for us ga and bags smile

annodomini Mon 29-Oct-12 14:01:10

How exciting when. I am getting quite envious about all these expected GC. It would be lovely to have a new baby to cuddle - have to wait for GGC!

kittylester Mon 29-Oct-12 14:08:31

DD3 is expecting another baby in March and DD2 tells me she is trying very hard to get pregnant. That's more than a mother needed to know, surely blush

Sook Mon 29-Oct-12 14:09:25

gracesmum glad to hear that your DH had a good night hope you managed to get more than 40 winks too.

soop Mon 29-Oct-12 14:16:23

It's good start the week with happy news. smile

crimson Mon 29-Oct-12 14:16:37

What a rotten weekend for everyone; lets hope this week is better! On the subject of computers, my grandson, when he was about 3 always called it the oocompoooter. We knew that we really should tell him what it was actually called, but it was so cute we just let him carry on [and we called it the same blush].

kittylester Mon 29-Oct-12 14:19:11

Has it stuck crimson? There are some words we have used from when ours were little and they are completely part of our vocab now. grin

crimson Mon 29-Oct-12 14:24:00

Y'know, I don't know what he calls it now, but to me it's a pooter [it sort of reminds me of Mr Pooter because it knows everything and is always right]. Years ago I told someone there was an 'organ rectical' on in town that day, and I'm afraid I still have to hesitate if I go near the word 'recital'. Or just avoid it completely wink.
