"Today I've been is full" So I have started What I did Today, as I have something to be a granny bore with.

Today I became a gran for real. DD had my 1st GC 8 days after due date. Several days of twinges and a bad night.
DD rang me at 12;15 today.Just seen midwife at clinic, 3cm and waiting for the taxi to hospital. 5pm I had a phone call, baby had arrived at at 3:30 pm. That is 3 to 10cm in 3hrs! Noah Alexander ***. 6lb 11ozs. Forceps as baby was tiring but amazingly quick DD and SIL surprised by the speed. DD tired and sore but says she is totally in love. I am visiting tomorrow 60 miles away. What a day smile smile smile smile

Yes or lots of baths Gally, long ones.
If not quite old enough to sit on own steadily, sit in a cardboard box or washing up bowl and plonk a toy in with him. Or a blunt kitchen implement or two.
I am up in the Midlands with MIL for the weekend. Done her shopping. Chatted to her and her sis and BIL about the war. Cooking a whole chicken at the moment.
Popped in to Walsall art gallery to say hi to TS Elliot (the lovely bust by Epstein) and see what else is on. Not much apart from a Damien Hirst exhibition. A lot of anatomical teaching models in a case. Hum. A pickled sheep. He forgot to cut this one in half. It is just a pickled sheep in a perspex box. Not even a particularly good looking sheep. The only interesting thing was that the curator of the exhibition had mixed DH stuff in with the permanent collection.
Not sure whether the model of a black plastic bag of rubbish was real or "art" ... no it was "art'. Ho hum. Better luck next time.

Walsall has gone down the swanny if its descended to Hurst!

harrigran Sat 03-Nov-12 19:30:41

We raised a wine to Mr soop, sounds as if you had a good day.

JessM Sat 03-Nov-12 20:28:09

Quite varied exhibitions jenni to complement their permanent collection. The area near the gallery seems quite transformed in teh last few months with flats and a new premier inn on the banks of the canal.

jeni Sat 03-Nov-12 20:33:54

I haven't been back for as long as I lived there. Over 30years. I doubt I'd recognise it. I certainly didn't recognise Birmingham whe I went for the GN meet?

glassortwo Sat 03-Nov-12 20:41:14

Happy Birthday Mr S wine wine

gally putting them in the bath with the colander is always a good way to entertain GC and if that fails the pegs and a couple of pans. smile

I have spent the afternoon sewing badges onto GS Beavers sweatshirt... when did they make the eyes in the needles so small shock

JessM Sat 03-Nov-12 20:51:29

You'd recognise the high st jeni Older buildings like the Victorian Arcade looking good. But the opposite end to the church has a lot of new buildings. And the hospital has had a lot of new construction done.

I`m a bit late getting on here today, so it`s very late birthday greetings to Mr.Soop, your lunch sounded lovely, I`ve never been to the Glenbarr.
Welcome to Gransnet Olliebeak, hope you don`t have too much that you should be doing!
Bought a cat grooming brush in town today, tried to "groom" Mia, she objected very strongly, with the result that I now have claw and scratch marks on my hand and arm, bled for a while, but nobody sympathised.............naturally.

jeni Sat 03-Nov-12 22:38:47

I'm to bed now.

glassortwo Sat 03-Nov-12 23:28:54

number how is mia settling apart from not wanting to be groomed?

numberplease Sun 04-Nov-12 00:30:31

Glass, she`s doing alright, apart from being a bit of a hussy and preferring men to women! I keep reminding her who feeds her and keeps her litter tray clean, but she still goes sidling up to himself and ignoring me!

Nelliemoser Sun 04-Nov-12 09:43:35

Soop Thats luxury! Does it have central heating, laminate flooring and is it decorated in neutral colours. He might also like a DFS sofa. They have lots of bargains between now and xmas! He might also like a 40"television. wink
I do hope he will use it after all that trouble.!

Marelli Sun 04-Nov-12 10:13:56

I went to see the Russian State Ballet perform Swan Lake last night! A friend had been given two tickets for her birthday and she asked me to go with her. It was wonderful! Today has dawned with a sharp frost - so I'm heading out to Asda's to buy some thermal vests - Gally told me I can get good ones there wink!
Talking about the ballet and the purchasing of thermal vests doesn't sound right, does it...confusedgrin!

baubles Sun 04-Nov-12 10:25:32

Oh Marelli I'm envy I haven't been to 'the ballet' [pretentious - moi?] for a few years now since I can't get anyone to go with me. It will be a good few years till my DGD will be old enough although my daughter has told me that although she loved the 'special' outings with me the actual ballet bored her to tears sad

I'm going to bake my Yuletide Cake today, that makes me happy. It's the simple things smile

JessM Sun 04-Nov-12 10:57:40

SYMPATHY number I shouted loud and how you can hear me from the other side of the midlands. I guess animals think they can do their own hair, thank you very much!

harrigran Sun 04-Nov-12 11:30:40

Marelli what a super outing smile
Sharp frost here as well, house cosy , so I didn't notice until I peeped through the blinds.

granjura Sun 04-Nov-12 11:39:42

Grey and warmish - so spent the morning doing some essential insulation jobs- with sticky insulation tape around doors and bubble wrap on the barn doors and east door- where the 'bise' (east wind) was howling last week. Feeling quite self-righteous now smile

soop Sun 04-Nov-12 12:18:26

Nelliemoser and all fans of Rory the feral cat, I can now update you.

To assemble the flat-pack kennel penthouse, took almost two hours. We struggled through the kitchen door with it - it weighed a ton! It was carefully positioned, and his best basket with aired fleece, sat neatly in one corner. A double dish of Tesco's finest cat food, was placed invitingly just inside the entrance. Rory sniffed around the entrance and returned to his wheelie bin [foregoing supper]. At breakfast time he was hungry. He barged through the back door, sharpened his claws on the door mat, chased after me [I was bearing a delicious breakfast] and stood looking gormless as I place it inside his new dwelling. He then sat on a wet concrete block, whinging pitifully. Mr soop and I removed the wheelie bin. Rory was not amused. We watched for ages as he stood by the door of the penthouse, willing himself to enter. We gave up fretting, and had breakfast. And then, Mr soop shone a powerful torch through the window and lying in the basket, empty dish pushed aside, was Rory the wonder cat. Guess what we did next? We ((((hugged)))) each other and giggled. Aren't we bonkers!!!

soop Sun 04-Nov-12 12:20:33

Mr soop has asked me once again to thank "the lovely ladies"...Now, who would they be? wink

Ana Sun 04-Nov-12 12:40:06

Told you, soop! grin

jO5 Sun 04-Nov-12 13:01:14
