"Today I've been is full" So I have started What I did Today, as I have something to be a granny bore with.

Today I became a gran for real. DD had my 1st GC 8 days after due date. Several days of twinges and a bad night.
DD rang me at 12;15 today.Just seen midwife at clinic, 3cm and waiting for the taxi to hospital. 5pm I had a phone call, baby had arrived at at 3:30 pm. That is 3 to 10cm in 3hrs! Noah Alexander ***. 6lb 11ozs. Forceps as baby was tiring but amazingly quick DD and SIL surprised by the speed. DD tired and sore but says she is totally in love. I am visiting tomorrow 60 miles away. What a day smile smile smile smile

I thought I had posted this before but it isn't there.

Thanks gransnetters for the baby greetings and good wishes.

I saw Noah next day. He is lovely and of is of course, the best baby ever!
He seems very small, nearly 1lb lighter than his mum or my DS. Which is proportionately a lot. He was in a first size babygro, but as he is still curled up, he just pulls his arms and legs to the inside the body of the babygro.
Now at home and feeding seems to be going well for both.

After all the excitement, driving the 100mile round trip and some more miles around Sheffield's one way systems to find the right lane for the Hospital car park, I was exhausted.
I drove back home and went straight out for a meal with a lovely bunch of former colleagues. I had a lovely time but by about 9pm I was nearly falling asleep at the table.
Lots of emotion and travelling and partying, is exhausting. It must be a sign of age! Thanks again for your good wishes!

I've completely lost it this morning. I've gone upstairs 3 times to get the washing down! On the third time I succeeded!

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 11:25:19

jeni Titters from soop grin

crimson Sun 30-Sept-12 11:31:45

Noah. Oh what a lovely name. jeni; only 3 times. I've been up since 8 and, as yet have achieved nothing [I have rubbed a door down prior to painting]. I'm very impressed with my procrastination skills today smile.

jeni Sun 30-Sept-12 11:36:50

So you should be! It takes a lot of effort and practice to become a REALLY good procrastinator grin

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 11:41:14

Nelliemoser Welcome to the world, baby Noah. Aren't we a lucky clutch of Gransnetters. Our babes are beyond precious. smile You had an emotional day. Bet that you'll relive it for some time to come. Just the beginning of a whole new chapter for the entire family. flowers

I have spent the day with DH opening up the fire place in the living room. We suspected that the original door of the old Bastle was hidden there, and hurray it was there and the holes are there for the wooden stake which held the door closed.
I am over the moon to find this ancient door way. You should have seen the colour of the two of us we looked like chimney sweeps. So I have had the most fantastic day grin

jeni Sun 30-Sept-12 16:19:08

Bastle?

glassortwo Sun 30-Sept-12 16:23:46

jeni Bastle is a 16th century fortified farmhouse.

nightowl Sun 30-Sept-12 16:36:30

I have done nothing all day. Not so much procrastination as solidification. Or mummification. Or rigor mortis. Why oh why can't I get up from my chair and PUT DOWN THE LAPTOP.

nightowl Sun 30-Sept-12 16:40:37

Love the story about the Bastle glass, and welcome to Noah NellieM flowers

And now I will walk away from the laptop, I know I can do it .....

Ella46 Sun 30-Sept-12 16:49:45

glass that sounds really exciting, even with a mucky face!

I went for a walk this lunchtime, as my big toe (with pins in) has been causing back ache, and I need to keep moving.
Just bent over in Waitrose and my back gave way!

I don't know how I got home and I'm in agony now, taking paracetemol and Ibuprofen alternately every two hours.
My toe, which has been hurting for about three months, seems to be better!
I have a hospital appointment with the consultant on Wednesday, so talk about Sods Law!

jeni Sun 30-Sept-12 17:04:48

Are you sure it's not referred pain from your back?

crimson Sun 30-Sept-12 17:06:02

Last night my son came round and we watched The Hunger Games on dvd. I'd seen it at the cinema but he hadn't seen it at all. I'd wanted to get the blu ray version which has a 15 rating, but, in the end bought the version I'd seen [12]. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I watched the film Seabiscuit, another film that I'd loved at the cinema; I'd just finally read the book in it's entirety for the first time. I was struck by how well the film had been made and felt it coudn't have been made any better [films of treasured books usually being a disappointment]. I felt the same about The Hunger Games, and probably enjoyed it even more watching it the second time [I suppose it was made for people that knew what would happen anyway, due to the book being so popular..I'd assume a film would be made in a different way if it was a totally unknown story to it's viewers] seeing little details that I'd missed at the cinema. Anyway, I always like to watch the 'making of' dvd when I've enjoyed a film and this is what I did today. As the details of it's production unfolded I had a eureka moment which was [you guessed it] that it was directed by the same person..Gary Ross, who I now think is a total genius. He tends to use unknown actors a lot; Tom Hanks was discovered by him, as was Toby Maguire [sigh]. He sort of discovered Jennifer Lawrence who plays Katniss, but I think I discovered her first in Winters Bone [for which she deserved an Oscar]. Sadly he isn't directing the rest of the trilogy due to time constraints sad. But [get this!] he also wrote speeches for Bill Clinton! And, if anyone has been watching the excellent series about the Clintons on the beeb, you'll see that he made some darned fine speeches. Sorry to babble on so much about this, but, sad person that I am, I get very excited about discoveries such as this. Especially on a procrastination day. Now to watch the rest of 'the making of'. [I think I'm a little bit in love with Mr Ross as well blush]...

crimson Sun 30-Sept-12 17:09:50

Ella..sorry about your back. All of my aches and pains, which miraculously disappeared when the the weather warmed up have now come back with a vengeance. I think I've got so much referred pain that none of my body bits knows where what is coming from [bit like that British Rail sign; y'know the 'don't know whether we're coming or going one' which I would cut'n'paste except I still can't do it...]

Ella46 Sun 30-Sept-12 17:27:46

jeni No, the pins in my toe are pressing on a nerve causing me to walk badly, hence the backache.

crimson I'm the same, I've got so many body parts that hurt that I feel about 90, however, compared to Jeni,Soop and various others on here, my problems are minor.

Had a lovely Sunday roast, courtesy of M and S. £40 Aberdeen Angus beef joint, reduced to £10 and snatched up by SIL last Sunday teatime as they were closing. Delicious, with roast potatoes, carrots, broad beans, savoy cabbage and red wine gravy. He has kindly agreed to call in on the way home, to see if there are any more bargains like that smile

baublesbanglesandb Sun 30-Sept-12 17:57:58

I've spent the afternoon 'minding' the gallery where I go for art classes. The tutor likes to keep it open at weekends & asks for volunteers. It was a lovely quiet afternoon, now about to prepare dinner for DS & girlfriend who will be here soon. smile

anneandgraham Sun 30-Sept-12 18:45:31

whenim that sounded delish, we met friends at a carvery and good see them but will not go back to carvery!! meat good, but veg half cold!!
I was naughty and had treacle pud came nicely presented tiny jug custard, p iping hot but very dry sponge!!

Oh well live and learn. getting slightly stressed about hol and our garden is a tip just overwelming knowing where to start, so did very little as we were out for lunch. O dear!!

annodomini Sun 30-Sept-12 18:51:13

crimson, I love your enthusiasm - don't apologise for getting carried away. I have to confess that I don't know the films and books in question blush, but now I will try to find them.
I took GD1 out to lunch - Italian in Didsbury. She has recovered from her mystery illness and looks very well. She tells me that she is buying knee-length dresses and giving up the tiny minis she has been devoted to. Thank goodness. I didn't like to tell her she didn't have the figure for them.

kittylester Sun 30-Sept-12 18:59:52

Went to eldest granddaughter's 4th birthday party!! Made, iced and (over) decorated the cake yesterday (chocolate butter icing, crumbled flake and sugar butterflies on top, smarties ALL round the outside) as per instructions! Got away before the sugar rush hit them all and now going to sit down with wine and doze in front of Country File ready for Downton. I deserve it grin

crimson Sun 30-Sept-12 19:01:02

I thought 'the making of' would last about an hour. I think I've been watching it on and off all afternoon. I'm just enthralled by how anyone can create something; how each minor detail makes up 'the whole' and creates the feel of the movie.
