What I did today.

...watching more and more little blisters appear throughout the house as a result of my water leak [think I'm imagining some of them and have a crick in my neck from walking round looking upwards all the time]....

Have been to an aqua zumba class to see if I like it and the health club where it's held. Good news - I survived and enjoyed it, though I was never quite sure what I was doing with my feet but at least they were moving. I will be very stiff tomorrow! And I have joined the club as an off-peak member which looks like good value, as long as I go and do my stuff!

Hello to all.Sorry all I haven't been posting, both I and my computer have been ill!

Today my little gardener was here at 8.45 when I woke up!
(I did a catchup on sleep, as I was in Oxford yesterday for about 7 hours, putting a draft excluder on my daughter's back door, being with her for an appointment, getting my small grandson from school and leaving him in the park with his mates while we went to shop....collecting him and taking shopping back.....etc etc - ended up a little tired.)

Dave (the gardener) and I have been measuring out a space in my front garden for the car. Big parking problem in this road which was not built for cars really and the people opposite now have 3 vehicles - I get tired of having to park down the road!
I would rather have garden, but there. At least it is progressing, after my 3 big grandsons took the hedge down..the thing is, that was two years ago!

Glad to hear the aqua zumba was a success, anno! Was it as wild as the dry land dancing?

I went to watch my 6-year old DGS in his Harvest Festival. I have to say he was the very best tree I have ever see.

Ana - not specially wild. I think most of the class were at least as old as me and some of them probably as clueless. As long as I kept moving and doing approximately what the instructor was showing us, I felt it was doing me good. Now I am feeling a bit clapped out!

Partly because of what I was expected to do as an untrained carer,was told that I was expected to offer palliative care and lay out the people who had died,my shoes where checked as where those in the class and although mine where approved of to withstand bodily fluids ,was on a nil hours contract,with no job security ,but only found this put in the training...

Was a private sector company,and if you had signed to say you had received training and something happened there was no comeback on the company you where liable ...scary stuff..

Carers, whether in a home or in the community are among the most exploited employees in the workforce, at the bottom of the heap and poorly paid, they are also expected to use their own transport between clients, without being able to claim expenses.
I'm sorry, nellie that the job didn't meet your expectations. You would be a wonderful carer.

I got a job with Crossroads once, they said it was to visit people to give the carer a break, but forgot to mention it involved care work of all sorts, apparently social services would not pay just to give carer a break, I did not start it as shadowed another worker and found it involved far too much hands on care which did not feel happy with.

No, Littlenellie. I'm really not thinking that untrained staff should be dealing with people who had died and needing 'laid-out'. If you get the chance to, have a wee look online at the website for the company and see what the Care Commission has to say about them - not sure what it's called in England? See what sort of recommendations have been made. You shouldn't have been giving palliative care at such an early stage, either. Oh my goodness.

I agree with what others have said, nellie. If that's the type of 'training' they're giving just to get people off benefits it's shameful! So sorry it was such an awful experience for you.

Feeling really sad now,apparently cleaning poo off of walls and toilet sand dementia care has been taken on by this company,expecting carers to offer the best care they care in the 15 minute slot allocated by social services,alcoholics and drug a users feature as the package shifts from 06.00 -22.00 with a break in between,my hours 5days a week and calls at home are normal practice on days off...who benefits from this sort of care,apart from the care company.
