Rory was last seen on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. We arrived home from a trip to see the family. He had a meal and left his apartment. We haven't seen him since. The longest he's been away is 60 hours. His kitten calls every evening. Mother cat calls by on occasions. Ive cleaned his apartment. There is chicken waiting to be enjoyed. All we need is Rory.

Oh dear! I'm worried about him too.
For some strange reason I've become fond of that feline! I've never met him and I'm allergic to cats!confused

Ana Sun 30-Sept-12 13:02:17

Oh, soop, I do hope he's OK and will saunter in as though nothing had happened in a day or two (as cats are wont to do!). I know it must be terribly worrying, though. flowers

Elegran Sun 30-Sept-12 13:03:43

Maybe he is too busy getting the next set of kittens under way.

nightowl Sun 30-Sept-12 13:20:51

Oh no not another missing cat, after what happened to poor pepper. Lets hope he's just gone off on a bender. What a worry.

Rory has been "one of the family" for some considerable time [ 18 months, I believe.] When we first set eyes on him, he was wandering through the snow followed by Mother cat and a black kitten. Mr soop made the wee wooden chalet, under which, we put out a few scraps of food. The cats ate the food but stayed well away from us. One day, Rory wandered into the utility room. I put a dish of food on the doormat. When I startled him a little later in the evening, he attacked me. I bear the scars. We then put a cleaned out wheelie bin on its side. We furnished it with a smart igloo cat basket and several fleeces. He loved it. He bacame "fond" of us. We tried to capture him so that he could be neutered. He refused to enter the trap - finishing up high on a shelf, looking down on we mere mortals. grin. His wifelet and by then, two kits, were captured. The vet sterilised the three girls. They have lived happily ever since, 'though we haven't seen the tiger-stripe kit for several weeks.
Rory would wander around the garden with Mr soop. He has been into the house for a quick looksie on many occasions. He winds himself around my legs. He no longer hisses, spits or bites. He joined us recently as we had a drink on the terrace. He took a liking to Mr soop's canvas chair. Mr soop therefore sat on a cushion on the steps. hmm
We've no idea how old he is. He is battle-scarred and certainly not in his prime.
Have checked outside...for the umpteenth time...still no Rory.

glassortwo Sun 30-Sept-12 15:57:16

I hope rory turns up tonight for tea sad

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 16:00:49

glass...have checked yet again and there's no sign of him. He's a slightly tattered semi-wild moggy...and we love him.

Oh soop that reminded me of a quote from my favourite children's book of all time - The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery

“To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world"

I do hope Rory comes home

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 16:15:10

nightowl I'm going to copy the quotation. It's very moving. flowers

nightowl Sun 30-Sept-12 16:18:59

I'm so glad you like it soop. The book is full of moving quotations. It's the best book about love and what is important in life that I have ever come across. I can't read it without crying.

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 16:20:07

nightowl...it's going into my personal favourite quotations and verses book. smile

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 16:22:32

I shall try to buy it online. Thank you very much. smile

nightowl Sun 30-Sept-12 16:32:27

It's a lovely one to read to grandchildren soop, or give to slightly older ones to read themselves.

I do hope Rory is picking up all the positive thoughts coming his way smile

Grannyknot Sun 30-Sept-12 16:36:43

I also like The Little Prince. Soop I hope Rory comes back to this apartment, in the meanwhile have a little treat from James Bowen and his friend "A Street Cat Named Bob" www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdAFjB7AeYA

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 16:42:19

YOU'LL NEVER BELIEVE THIS but I looked through the kitchen window five minutes ago, and Rory was sitting on the bin lid, gazing straight into my eyes! Mr soop has come down from the loft. We've given him a whole lot of fuss and he's now in his apartment, tucking into chicken [lots of it] We are so happy. We keep repeating...isn't it lovely that Rory's come home. Isn't that daft? grin

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 16:45:06

And, yes, Grannyknot The Lady magazine featured James Bowen and Bob, about two months ago. What a marvellous turn around in fortune for both man and creature. sunshine

Marelli Sun 30-Sept-12 16:47:28

Oh soop! I'm so pleased!! smile

glammanana Sun 30-Sept-12 16:52:56

soop so so pleased Rory is back safely in his apartment.

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 16:57:03

Have just made sure that he's comfortable. He has polished off a double helping of chicken and licked the dish clean. He's curled up on his bed, in his apartment. Just knowing that he's back at long last, has made me soooooooo happy. grin

shysal Sun 30-Sept-12 17:09:07

That is great news Soop, I had a feeling that would happen. Two of my cats do that to me all the time, but it doesn't stop me worrying. For one of them it is over a week before she returns for a week then is off again. I think she has a home in the next village. Occasionally she returns after 2 days and I wonder whether the 'other' family is on holiday. There is nothing like the good night's sleep I get when I know I have a full house of cats!
I used to put 'lost' notices around the village, which would guarantee that the offender would immediately stroll in as if nothing has happened! I suspect posting on GN had the same result with Rory.

jeni Sun 30-Sept-12 17:09:08

Now everyone can relax

Rory's at home
Alls well with the worldsmilesunshineflowersgrinwine

soop Sun 30-Sept-12 17:20:04

shysal our village is three miles away. Otherwise, we're surrounded by woodland on one side, and the sea on the other. smile jeni those symbols sum up my mood. Time to wish you lot a peaceful Sunday evening. I'm off for brew and a long read of the paper...after which, Mr soop has a new house plan to share with me. At six sharp, I shall enjoy my Sunday G&T. Bye for now. Crescent moon. smile

whenim64 Sun 30-Sept-12 17:40:51

soop is that Rory the 'bloshie cat' who has been AWOL? I'm glad he's returned safe and sound. Wonder where he went? Cats are mysterious beings, aren't they? I would love to have another cat to live with me, but like the predictability of knowing where my pets are (in the dog's case, it's usually lying in her basket snoring, with her legs in the air!) grin

Sook Sun 30-Sept-12 17:56:27

soop I read your post earlier. I am so glad Rory has returned safe and sound. Purrrrrrr relief.
