DH is up and out of the house before 7! I think that's a first in all the time I've known him. He's off to shoot arrows at Bannockburn. Hope he has fun.

Anything unusual about your Sunday?

I had an indoor day, as it rained too much for a walk - only the second day I have missed taking Gatsby out in over two weeks. I don't like her to get too wet and cold because she is obviously feeling very stiff.
I read about 200 pages of The 19th Wife and caught up with the programmes I had recorded when I was out exploring on previous days.
Then I had a long chat with my daughter in New Zealand, who gets free calls to Europe. All good news - she always cheers me up. I exchanged pms on Facebook with my eldest grand-daughter. She is juggling working long hours in an hotel, looking after two children under four, and studying her OU course. Her lovely fiance also works very hard and is great with the children. I am very proud of her - she has not had an easy life.

Misty here this morning, but the sun is trying to get through, so I think I will be having a good walk.

Gally - I wish I could have helped you with clearing out your shed - I am a frustrated clearer-outer as I have only a ski-locker and a balcony - both very tidy! I did manage to clear out two sheds for my sister last time I was there and made several trips to the tip. As long as I have my Marigolds on, I will tackle anything!

I had such a pleasant Sunday - the sun was shining and we walked along the beach for a while, then went for a drink with friends, then to DD's for a late Sunday lunch to celebrate DSiL's birthday. (if you remember, this is quite new for us!) Both DSs and their families were together in Hampshire so there was a lot of "Face timing" on iPhones, with all the cousins shouting to one another. Bless them.

I can see the hills and fields as we turn into this road; so nice to have so much green nearby. Lovely, lovely day.

Removal men arrive today. I await with a mixture of delight and apprehension of the "where are we going to put everything" sort.

I hope that wasn't a Savigny hangover Gally it can be quite heady grin

Oldgreymare Sun 07-Oct-12 18:05:34

grin yes it does sound a bit like an 'Allo 'Allo script now I pause to think about it.
It does do to engage brain before letting fingers loose on a keyboard!

gracesmum Sun 07-Oct-12 18:02:46

"The geese are flying along the Avon valley " - I weel say zees ohnly wance..... grin

Oldgreymare Sun 07-Oct-12 17:59:06

Another 'unusual' thing. GS has asked if he can come to stay (been a reformed character for a while now!) It will mean his first solo journey. It is just lovely to think that he wants to spend time with us.(huge smile emoticon)
Gally still early days, and these are days of downs as well as ups. Glad you achieved so much despite feeling low. (((hugs)))
Soop saw a small skein of geese flying along the Avon valley, keeping up with the train until it gathered speed and they veered off, outlined against an early morning sky. I knew then we were in for a good time!

gracesmum Sun 07-Oct-12 17:57:33

Oh dear, such graceful and noble creatures I always think sad

Gally Sun 07-Oct-12 17:49:39

'Our' young swan who has been pottering about the burn and beach for the past few weeks (probably longer but I wasn't here to see him) was lying dead in the harbour today - so sad sad

soop Sun 07-Oct-12 17:42:03

Looked through the window to see six swans in flight. The sunlight on their plumage, casting a reflection on the placid sea. smile

gracesmum Sun 07-Oct-12 17:16:47

We could use an [impressed] emoticon I think!

Bags Sun 07-Oct-12 17:16:03

butty smile

soop Sun 07-Oct-12 16:35:37

Butty and I'm pleased that you're pleased. smile

jeni Sun 07-Oct-12 16:31:03

grin to both!

Butternut Sun 07-Oct-12 16:28:07

Glad you're feeling better, Gally.smile

Nothing like a bit of physical activity to chase away 'the glums' as soop says.

Carried on gardening, in a gentle rain. Raked up wheelbarrows full of sodden leaves and finished off re-shaping the box balls - all 16 of them! - and trimmed the tops of little box plants, which I hope will make a little border one day. I've nearly achieved the look of a typical French curate's kitchen garden. All grown from cuttings - it's only taken 8 years so far ........

Pleased smile

Bags Sun 07-Oct-12 16:23:54

Aw, gally, so pleased you busted the blues and the hangover. Thank goodness for kind neighbours! sunshine

soop Sun 07-Oct-12 16:03:13

Oh Gally your neighbour sounds like a true gent. I find that cleaning and sorting stuff creates a diversion whenever "the glums" are threatening to settle in for a wee session. flowers

Gally Sun 07-Oct-12 15:56:57

Wow - a badge Bags! grin well done Mr.Bags. I think I deserve a badge too for spending 4 hours today emptying my summer house, filling the car with old paint pots, fishing nets, carpet pieces - you name it, ready for the tip tomorrow and then putting everything else back tidily ready for winter including garden tables and chairs (which were washed first). Not only did it cure my hangover but got the adrenalin going and the miseries cleared as well. My neighbour, the psychiatrist, came over the wall to give me a bit of therapy hmm when he heard me sniffing and snuffling (and swearing); I think he 's taken me on as a bit of a case........

Greatnan Sun 07-Oct-12 15:41:32

Are you going to sew it on for him, or has he already got that badge?

jeni Sun 07-Oct-12 14:36:21

Wow!envy

Ana Sun 07-Oct-12 14:34:09

A badge! sunshine

Bags Sun 07-Oct-12 14:21:23

graces, now you're quoting from "Oliver Twist". Isn't that the line of a song the Fagin sings at some point? "I think I better think it out again."

DH learned a lot about how archery competitions work, and he has a badge.

soop Sun 07-Oct-12 14:17:51

Bags grin

Bags Sun 07-Oct-12 14:08:47

Dh is just back. I expect I'll be regaled with an arrow by arrow account now. Till later then..... wink

grannyactivist Sun 07-Oct-12 14:02:01

Unusual?
Just been out to remonstrate with a visitor to the people next door after I saw him spitting onto my path over the garden wall. Still shaking - even though he (teenager) did apologise, as did my neighbour.

Arrived home at nearly 2am after collecting our son on his return from Greece.

Spent part of last evening on the phone to mentally ill relative who was angry, depressed and suicidal, but much more positive by the end of the call. Can't get any response today from his switched off phone. Has happened before, but it's hard not to worry. Will keep trying.

Gally - hope it was worth it! grin

jeni Sun 07-Oct-12 13:44:12

Listening to radio 4 they are talking about a book called 'the sexual life of savages'
I inherited this large tome from my father! It very useful . It gets used as a doorstop, mattress raised, missile against invaders and numerous other uses!
No household should be without a copy!
