Piped music in restaurants, bars and shops.

Am I alone in loathing piped so-called music hammering away through speakers [usually to my immediate left or right] in bars and hotel restaurants? At breakfast time, the same repetitive thump, thump, thump, ya, ya, ya, from dinner, the night before, continues to bore into my head like a woodpecker on class A drugs. No sooner do we leave the row behind than we walk into a shop/supermarket and are treated to a re-run. Couldn't someone, somewhere, realise that there are other forms of music to be enjoyed.

When I and a friend had lunch at the Treehouse at Alnwick Castle last week,, the most dreadful music was pounding out. If it had been something from Harry Potter or Babes in the Wood which would have fitted the theme of the place, or better still some quiet classical stuff, then I wouldn't have minded. I think it was for the benefit of the staff, not the customers. I made this point when leaving and it was accepted politely and I was told that 'they' (?management/Duchess of Northumberland??) would be told of the complaint. Don't suppose it will make any difference, but I tried hmm

A columnist in the Indie has been complaining about music in restaurants today. I hate noisy environments, listen to the radio a lot but with the sound quite low. If I go into a shop, restaurant or pub with noisy music i walk staright out again.

Often it's the staff who insist on the music. i'm bothered by the very noisy coffee machines which drown all conversation and often produces rubbish coffee.

Hate it. The only true aversion/allergy I have is synthesized/americanized Christmas music in shopping centres. It really freaks me out and I have to leave.

Yesterday at the hospital, while getting replastered (!) I was nearly driven insane by the inanities blaring from the local radio station in the plaster room - dreadful muzac and ungrammatical intros that my OCD OH insisted on correcting loudly - very embarrassing!

To anyone hoping to watch that concert - There seems to be a problem with the sound coming over gthe internet. Contacted them and they can hear it fine locally, but not on the net. They are trying to trace what is wrong and fix it. They only have half an hour until it starts - the orchestra are all there and are rehearsing - looks very good but zilch sound.
