As a long-standing poster to Gransnet, I do hope that everyone is remembering basic online rules on private messaging and one-to-one chats. They apply to all, not just to gullible teenagers.
DO NOT under any circumstances give your main email address to someone until you are QUITE sure that they are on the level and are not going to take advantage of it to invade your privacy. PMs sent through the Gransnet forum are forwarded to your usual email address, but it is not revealed to the sender.
Likewise, do not agree to meet anyone unless you are quite sure of their credentials, and make sure that someone reliable knows where you are and with whom, and has a phone number to contact you, and that you have a number which you can ring if you are not happy.
If you do not like the content or tone of any PM you receive through Gransnet, report it at once to GNHQ. They will deal with it. Their rules are at www.gransnet.com/info/netiquette.
