I had a few good afternoon tea deals from Groupon, one of which was a champagne afternoon tea in a riverside setting, at a hotel opposite Granada TV studios, with a top-up of champagne and as many refills of tea as we wanted for no extra cost - £9 for the two of us!

Yes vampirequeen I have used groupon and had two lovely overnight stays at very good rates, one of them was a 'romantic break for two' which I went on with a female friend, just because it was a good deal. We had a double bed, chocolates, champage, rose petals on the bed; all of which made us laugh and wonder what the staff thought our relationship was - not that we minded. Another friend's daughter even booked her wedding through groupon - not sure I'd go that far but she said it was fantastic. I think these sites can be very good value.

I was very dubious when Groupon sent us a discount for a local Bird of Prey evening event. It seemed too good to be true and I'd heard bad things on the TV about Groupon. I decided to ring the Bird of Prey centre who said they did lots of work with Groupon and that it was totally kosha. So I bought a family ticket reduced from £20 to £8.

We went last night and it was brilliant. Well worth the money....although I'm too Yorkshire to say it was worth £20 lol. We were taken to see the hawks and owls that had been put to bed for the night. That really upset some of the birds and they squawked at us in no uncertain terms for disturbing them. Then they flew two owls. Absolutely incredible to see these beautiful creatures silently appear out of the dark like apparitions. They swooped over us causing adults to duck to the general amusement and excitement of all. Our children's faces were shining.

So now I'm interested to see if the other discount sites do equally good deals.
