Jane x to you and the parents of the soldier

harrigran Tue 13-Nov-12 21:33:53

DIL just rang with an update on childminder, has been hospitalised thought she had meningitis. Massive worry, then she had a gastric bleed and they think it may be caused by arthritis medication.
I am now on childminding duty with more of those very early morning drives.

Marelli Tue 13-Nov-12 21:35:00

Oh - poor wee lad, glass. He's been going through the mill, bless him. What a worry for you. xx

jeni Tue 13-Nov-12 21:35:16

Oh dear! Wouldn't it be easier if possible to stay there?

Marelli Tue 13-Nov-12 21:43:28

Harrigran - goodness - the poor woman! Take care on the roads - the weather's starting to become a bit murky now.

moomin Tue 13-Nov-12 21:53:37

Hope your DGS gets well soon glass, fingers crossed. Good luck harri with the early morning starts, take care.

harrigran Tue 13-Nov-12 22:25:12

glass hope your GS feels better soon, a month seems like a long time to feel poorly. My son used to get a lot of tummy pains in reception class I put it down to nerves but GP said it could be migraine.
Not really an option to stay at son's but we will do a lot of the care at their home instead of bringing her back to ours and we can then pick up other GD from school instead of her having to go to after school club.
In the good old days I was at home so never had to worry about childcare. DIL is very good and takes days off without pay to cover difficult times, like tomorrow, so I can go to the funeral.

gracesmum Tue 13-Nov-12 22:34:14

Oh poor you - will be thinking of you.xx

Nanadog Tue 13-Nov-12 22:36:26

Poor little fellow. That's a long time to suffer tummy pains etc. glass hope something gets done about it.

janeainsworth Tue 13-Nov-12 22:53:18

harri will be thinking of you tomorrow.

soop Wed 14-Nov-12 11:40:40

glass Sounds very much like a grumbling appendix. If it is, soonest sorted all the better. flowers

harri Your assistance will be much appreciated. You take time off for a nice brew from time to time. Thinking of you and the childminder. Poor lady! flowers

kittylester Wed 14-Nov-12 13:44:27

glass looking like dish rag is a fabulous expression and one I've nit gears since my nan died. Not nice for the poor boy though so give him a big (((hug)).

harri take care on the roads. I drove into a ditch in the way home from my 'duties' last winter.

kittylester Wed 14-Nov-12 13:46:27

Nit gears = not heard. New fangled technology.

jeni Wed 14-Nov-12 13:48:12

Ohgrin got me wondering!

kittylester Wed 14-Nov-12 13:57:16

jeni blinking technology angry

jeni Wed 14-Nov-12 14:01:21

Tell me about it! iPad is always putting a different word from what I typed. Dam thing thinks its brainier than me!
Actually, it probably is!

JessM Wed 14-Nov-12 14:27:08

Arrogant technology. We love some and we hate some. I don't like the automatic checkouts that talk in a bossy voice. "Place your bags in the bagging area!" I do like the automatic posting machine in the PO that weighs and prints out stamp. No talking and at least as warm and friendly as the average PO counter assistant around here.
Phoenix - nobody in Wales says "look you", ever. Only English people. I think this goes back to George Borrow who wrote a book about walking in Wales about 200 years ago and tried to capture the stilted phrases of locals trying to talk to him in English. (This is just a "how not to p off Welsh people" tip. These things can come in handy.)
Its ok I still love you "phoenix" . And we do say "Fair Dooos" (Dues) a lot.
And "there's lovely". And "I don mind" - which means "I dont mind if I do" i.e yes please I'd love one. At least in S Wales. The North is another country.

jeni Wed 14-Nov-12 14:34:32

They do in Cardiff. I've heard them at the tribunals. Usually people from the valleys I think

Ana Wed 14-Nov-12 14:40:15

They also tack "isn't it" onto the end of a statement. It's not really a question.

annodomini Wed 14-Nov-12 15:00:53

One of my students, who came from South Wales, gave the class an entertaining talk on 'Wenglish' which is what I think you are talking about, JessM.

moomin Wed 14-Nov-12 15:17:40

Hope you've coped with today's events harri and hope your GS continues to feel much better today glass and the problem gets sorted out once and for all

celebgran Wed 14-Nov-12 17:06:43

Went into work to be shown how to use a new computer system; need to be up to speed with it in a couple of weeks. Didn't even attempt to understand what I was being shown confused; had I done so would be in complete panic mode now. It's horrible. Old dog new tricks and all that sad....
