Who haunts your dreams?

Travelodge conducted a poll to find which public figures most regularly caused people to have nightmares. George Osborne came top, followed by Gordon Brown in second place and Katie Price in third. Other nightmare-inducing people included Wayne Rooney, Sir Alex Ferguson, Justin Bieber and Ann Widdecombe.

I admit to my sleep being disturbed by Tony Blair and Vladimir Putin. I have also conducted a fierce argument with Michael Gove in my dreams but I think I won so it wasn't a nightmare. Who wakes you up at night?

GA, I had a similar nightmare, only I was being chased by a teddy bear which got bigger and bigger, till it became man-sized, then changed into a big lump of raw meat like you see hanging up at the butcher`s. I was terrified of going to sleep, and it went on for about 2 years.

I never dream, or rather, I never remember my dreams if I do dream.
However, I quite often wake up worried that I have not got all the coursework in, and I gave up teaching English when the National Curriculum came in.
All my family have told me about dreams they've had about their dad and grandad. He would not come to me in any dreams as he knows I wouldn't remember them!

I have a recurring dream , on off for many years, that I haven't finished all my teacher training work and I'm not really qualified - have been teaching for 33 years so a bit worrying really!

gracesmum Wed 07-Nov-12 12:40:35

Do all teachers have a built in guilt complex? My recurring teaching dreams feature;
1) being late and unable to find the numbers on my phone to ring in
2) trying to do a register and the names keep changing
3) trying to teach a subject I know nothing a bout and thinking "I can bluff my way through this -and I can't"
I retired 2 years ago so these should be safely behind me by now!

Bez Wed 07-Nov-12 13:44:41

Years after I had retired from teaching I used to wake every Sunday night worrying what it was I had forgotten to do for the next morning. It was only when I was really awake that I remembered I was retired! grin

I have the toilet dreams along with the phone not working, dialling 999 but getting the wrong number, teeth falling out, forgetting to wear clothes and all the other insecurity dreams.

Theses are the meanings that lie behind the toilet dreams...well so the website says lol

To see a clogged toilet in your dream suggests that you are holding and keeping your feelings to yourself. Your emotions have been pent up too long and you need to let go of the negative feelings.

To see an overflowing or flooded toilet in your dream denotes your desires to fully express your emotions

To dream that you are in a public restroom with no stalls or that there are a lot of people around while you are trying to do your business signifies your frustrations about getting enough privacy. You are always putting others ahead of your own needs.

gracesmum How odd. I've had all 3 of those dreams + going to school and then remembering in a lesson that I had forgotten I'd left the baby sleeping in the cot at home....

gracesmum Wed 07-Nov-12 14:31:34

I also regularly dream either that I am pregnant shock or that I have a baby which gets smaller and smaller until it disappears altogether. How screwed up does that make me s und? hmm

gracesmum Wed 07-Nov-12 14:32:06

What happened to the o in sound?

Grannybags Wed 07-Nov-12 15:38:28

That's very interesting vampirequeen The last toilet dream I had I managed to unblock it so hopefully that means my life is sorted now!

I still get the occasional dream where I am late for an engagement, I haven't got my instruments, or the right clothes or shoes... and in fact I haven't been a musician since about 1983...

And I recently dreamed that I was riding a bicycle - very fast and with total disregard for anybody else. As usual it was at night, and the roads were wet. The lighting in my dreams is always rotten.

It is interesting that, apart from the Travelodge survey, few people are talking about dreams involving public figures.

janeainsworth Wed 07-Nov-12 18:24:41

I've never dreamed about a public figure.
I used to dream that I hadn't done any revision for an exam, though that has been replaced in recent years by lots of people turning up for a party and I haven't prepared any food or got any drink.
I've also had the sitting-on-the-toilet dream and so far managed to wake up in time [relieved emoticon]

ha ha grin

NfkDumpling Wed 07-Nov-12 20:17:33

I've been told most people dream in black and white. I'm still trying to figure out whether I do or not. I have enough trouble trying to remember the dream. A bit like my waking hours really.

Ana Wed 07-Nov-12 20:19:29

I definitely dream in colour! Vivid colour sometimes....

baubles Wed 07-Nov-12 21:10:14

I first realised that I dream in colour as I was describing a dream jungle to my sister, I was about ten years old.

I've had a recurring dream since my mid teens. I am in a building which could be a hotel, school, office or totally unidentifiable. I'm being pursued by unknown person(s) but I don't know why. Every time I think a door will take me outside I find myself in yet another room, there are often staircases, sometimes leading nowhere. I'm always afraid and sometimes terrified, I've never been caught or seen my pursuers. Forty years of the same dream and it still has the power to leave me shaken!

I'd love to know why. confused

jO5 Wed 07-Nov-12 21:14:50

I dream in colour.

gracesmum Wed 07-Nov-12 21:18:34

I have also had dreams entirely in another language - once I was conducting a court case in French (!) and once giving a lecture in German. I'm happy to say I could understand everything I said!grin

Presumably as a result of the Travelodge survey, last night I dreamed a kind of The Prisoner scenario, as in the cult television serial. However, instead of the big ball thing acting as a "border guard", Ann Widdecombe was rolling around Port Merion. Is there such a thing as a funny nightmare?

Ella46 Thu 08-Nov-12 09:45:48

baubles I have that same dream/nightmare in a large building, dark usually, but not being chased. I'm always looking for someone and can never find them. I think it's an insecurity dream.

A couple of nights ago, I dreamt about Daniel Craig, and I don't even like him!

vampirequeen Thu 08-Nov-12 11:25:40

Now I wouldn't mind dreaming about Daniel Craig but last night for some strange reason Reginald Maudling was in my dream. Why Reginald Maudling? He's not someone I think about when I'm awake and there's not been anything on the TV or radio about him lately to have put a thought in my head.

I hate my dreams. I wake up tired and upset most mornings.

absentgrana Thu 08-Nov-12 13:01:34

Hmm Reginald Maudling or Daniel Craig? Daniel Craig or Reginald Maudling? That's a hard choice. hmm I'd have woken up upset too vampirequeen.

pamw Thu 08-Nov-12 13:57:21

George Clooney. I would kick Mr w out of bed for him any time
