Is she just terminally stupid? Still tweeting and breaking the law by naming the girl who went to France with her teacher. I am puzzled by her motivation - is it worth breaking the law just to get publicity?

Another case of someone who is famous for being famous!

It's mad isn't it? Most of us would never have heard of this woman, even though she has highly developed self-publicising tendencies, if she weren't married to the Speaker. I suspect that most of us hadn't heard of him either before he became Speaker.

Ana Thu 22-Nov-12 11:43:11

Yes, and there's always pillow talk if she doesn't feel like stooping!
I can't see her staying out of the media for long though, wonder what her next venture will be?

C&P'd

Sally Bercow, the wife of the Speaker of the Commons, has finally seen the sense of the old saying: “Least said, soonest mended.” With legal action from Lord McAlpine in the offing over the innuendo to which she subjected him, and a possible fine for breaching a court order by naming a schoolgirl who had allegedly run off with her teacher, she has suspended her account on the Twitter website.

Happily, she now has no outlet for her views since the BBC and Sky News no longer invite her to review the newspapers for them. Even the Daily Star Sunday has dispensed with her services as a columnist.

The ears of poor old John Bercow, if she can stoop low enough, will now somehow have to absorb all of her daily pontifications.

In yesterdays Daily Telegraph there was a piece in the gossip section about Sally Bercow. Apparently some of the papers that she writes for have dropped her. (The piece was rather well worded, I will try to find it.)

isthisallthereis Bill Clinton did turn the US economy round very successfully. Of course George W. turned it back again.

isthisallthereis Thu 22-Nov-12 00:15:13

I bet she (Sarah Brown) is crying all the way to the bank.

How can her acceptance (her seeking it out??) possibly be aligned with socialist principles? Or do such principles not exist any more (cynicism, cynicism)? I don't know why exactly but that Sarah Brown = Harrods news has particularly upset my sense of well-being. Ommmmm....

gracesmum Wed 21-Nov-12 22:55:43

Not something I would want to be associated with!!

annodomini Wed 21-Nov-12 22:42:40

Talking of politicians' wives: Sarah Brown is reported today as being appointed a director of Harrods.

johanna Wed 21-Nov-12 22:24:15

I will eat my hat ( promise..) if Mc. Alpine goes to court.
I don't think he will.

Sel Wed 21-Nov-12 22:15:40

Flickety & Ana I'm revising my opinion in light of your comments! JSP, I agree, great role model, loud and proud. Greatnan I couldn't agree more about Glenys Kinnock, hypocrite of the first order. The whole family, I believe, joined the EU gravy train.

isthisallthereis Wed 21-Nov-12 15:59:24

I think lilygran is correct. Shame as I thought Clinton (male) was a useless President.

Lilygran Wed 21-Nov-12 11:43:46

Unfortunately, I think Hillary has said she's intending to retire.

Greatnan Wed 21-Nov-12 11:22:17

Of course, she is not the only wife to have benefited from marriage to a politician. Glenys Kinnock landed a very lucrative post at the EU, without ever being elected to the UK parliament. She was awarded a title to make her eligible. She was filmed leaving the building minutes after signing in to get her attendance allowance, and attended a conference on poverty - in Barbados!
I except Hilary Clinton, who would perhaps have made a better president than her husband, and may still do so.

Ana Wed 21-Nov-12 11:21:29

I agree absolutely with your post, FlicketyB. There's something rather grubby about Sally Bercow and the way she pushes herself to the front all the time (pun intended!). JSP is a good role model for women, whether one agrees with her views or not.

isthisallthereis Wed 21-Nov-12 11:21:14

A "loud-mouth" sums it up perfectly! Not a trait I admire.

FlicketyB Wed 21-Nov-12 11:13:39

I share your opinion in your last sentence Sel, but it helps to have some intelligence and thought behind your attitudes. Sally Bercow just shoots her mouth off without thinking about what she is saying first - as compared with someone like Janet Street-Porter who has similar attributes but also a solid lifetime of achievement on her own account, she has never based her career on the achievements of any partner. She also has carefully thought out attitudes and beliefs, which I dont necessarily share but I still have considerable respect for her. Sally Bercow is just a loud-mouth.

Sel Tue 20-Nov-12 22:37:21

Didn't we all know someone like Sally at school? She's lucky that she's in a society where tweets are reported and reality TV watched. Just a small part of me rather admires her 'sod 'em all' attitude smile

gracesmum Tue 20-Nov-12 21:46:37

Oh dear - agree to differ, petallus ? smile

petallus Tue 20-Nov-12 20:43:38

I'm a big fan of himself. I think they are a well matched couple. Both flamboyant and rather unconventional.

FlicketyB Tue 20-Nov-12 20:27:54

I hope she is one of the ones that gets asked to cough up £100,000 as punitive damages for her tweet. I find it very difficult to have any respect for people who make their careers by trading on who their spouse is.

kittylester Tue 20-Nov-12 11:58:03

She is a flipping disgrace and embarrassment. She should respect her husband's position but so should he.

celebgran Tue 20-Nov-12 11:34:30

am on twitter but do not get it really, all this only so many characters, is not for the chatty, and does seem to cause lot of storms!!

Greatnan Tue 20-Nov-12 11:24:48

She can't claim ignorance of the law now, as MacAlpine has said he is going to sue her.

absentgrana Tue 20-Nov-12 11:22:14

Maybe she thinks the law doesn't apply to the Speaker's wife. Maybe she thinks she has parliamentary privilege. Maybe she's stupid. Who knows?
