Grace is a bit miffed that she has had to budge up, but recognises that her mum has been a bad, bad, bad granny and will not be allowed out until the nice ladies at Gransnet Towers say so. Her mum is sad that her scintillating exchange of views with another lady has been curtailed - surely not censoredshock- and the thread she started has apparently disappeared like a snowflake on a river - a moment there, then gone for eversad
It seems a shame that smutty schoolboy lavatorial humour and crude innuendo are deemed acceptable despite leainge a bad taste on an otherwise friendly, companionable and intelligent site. She has said she will apologise to any parties named (or not) so, apart from hanging her head in shame, tail firmly between the legs and ears drooping, what more can she do? She will probably have many more hours in the day now to take Grace for nice walkies instead of sitting at that machine on the desk. [woof] emoticon.

Gracesmum George has already asked after Grace twice this morning. He is a mini fox terrier and already has a girlfriend who lives down the lane. They have already run away together and had to be brought back. She is a Labrador, I suspect he likes the big girls. smile

absent I can't see how anyone could get you and Greatnan mixed up but sometimes I have thought you and JessM are the same person. smile smile

Thank you POGS - "using" Grace as my mouthpiece was meant as a harmless bit of fun as I was trying to retain my sense of humour while feeling as if I had been slapped down for stepping out of line!! Nice to hear from you - I thought you had beeen very quiet recently!

POGS Sun 25-Nov-12 20:56:38

nightowl

Thanks to you too. wine

I also meant to say I thought your OP was charming and refreshing in it's light hearted approach. Hope you are feeling better and now accept you had nothing, by the sounds of it, to have felt remotely guilty about. flowers

Welcome back POGS I was wondering where you were! flowers

Just returned to GN after a break away and I cannot believe you would have upset anyone. Always rational to me and simply like most people just want to engage in chit chat. flowers

It's a pleasure Movedalot.

Movedalot Sun 25-Nov-12 10:48:34

Oldgrey yes, a happy memory, we must organise something again for early 2013. Gracemum are you going to organise us all again?

Thank you once again absent for your elucidation.

Oldgreymare Sun 25-Nov-12 10:30:13

Jess a feeling of 'hiraeth'.....I think W. Anglesey is where I would most like to be today!
Gracesmum not sure what all this is about, but I simply cannot imagine you would ever do (say or write) anything inappropriate.
Movedalot same goes for you..... having met you lovely ladies (and all who got together in Brum. A super group!)

Elegran Sun 25-Nov-12 10:26:24

butty bias binding on needlecord might look a bit odd, OK on cotton. Much easier though, you are right.

absentgrana Sun 25-Nov-12 10:21:25

Movedalot On some thread JessM replied to Greatnan concerning a post that I had written. Jings wondered why the two of us were being confused with each other and Greatnan pointed out that we have a lot in common so she didn't mind. JessM added that she too has family in New Zealand so the three of us make a little group of godzone grannies. It's not anything serious or important.

Movedalot Sun 25-Nov-12 10:18:14

Greatnan You've lost me! You mentioned Alison once before to me but I still don't get it, do you think we are the same person? Did she question your comments too? Sounds a touch paranoid to me.

Greatnan Sun 25-Nov-12 10:11:38

Now what did Alison once say to me........oh, yes, 'if the cap fits.....'

Movedalot Sun 25-Nov-12 09:53:49

Greatnan where did the idea that you and absent might be one person? I can't see that anywhere. Who is trying to disguise their style? Who is a doppleganger? I think you make be making veiled references but they are too veiled for me to work out! Please could you simply spell it out rather than leaving so many of us wondering who you are talking about? As said before, I am just a simple soul who tells it as it is.

Butty Sun 25-Nov-12 09:01:50

What about going a simpler route and using good old fashioned bias binding?

Bags Sun 25-Nov-12 07:22:33

jeni, interfacing is thin (usually) fabric which is completely different from the fabric you're using for the garment. Forgive me if someone has already told you this. The thread got me in a tangle so I gave up reading it a bit back.

It'a also different from the lining.

If you go to a sewing shop and ask for fusible interfacing they'll know what you mean.

I wouldn't use the 'self' fabric (what the dress is made of), but it might be OK. Possibly too thick though.

How's it coming along?
smile

Faye Sun 25-Nov-12 02:55:16

I thought for just a second that glassortwo wrote 'absent and Greatnan were the sane person' hmm

Greatnan Sun 25-Nov-12 01:50:22

You haven't met some of us in person!

Sel Sat 24-Nov-12 23:29:11

Saw an interesting Russian play today 'The Promise' set in Leningrad which included the line 'easier to be brave in the written word than in person' and thought how applicable it was to Gransnet.

glassortwo Sat 24-Nov-12 20:05:00

grin greatnan you and * absent* the same person grin grin grin

JessM Sat 24-Nov-12 18:54:07

hee hee, NZ-linked Grans are dopplegangers, we should start a coven with our supernatural powers.
Nice to see you again movealot grin

Greatnan Sat 24-Nov-12 18:45:31

It has been a lovely crisp Autumn day here and I went for a two hour walk in the pine forests on the mountains above Lake Geneva. There was a wonderful sunset - red and pale blue bands in the sky, and the snow capped peaks turned pink. As I drove down the mountain the lights were beginning to twinkle in the valley below and there were just a few wraiths of mist and a full moon with a halo. Magical.

Ceesnan - did you not see my grin - you are allowed to say anything if you add that! Jingle uses it a lot.

I love the idea that absent and I might be one person - it would take a very accomplished author to write in two such distinct styles. Still, we are hoping to end up as close neighbours when I emigrate and we certainly share a lot of our views. It is actually quite hard to disguise your style, especially from people who are used to reading and judging written work, so it does not need anybody to be 'outed' before we spot the doppelgangers.
