Seems ages since we had a quiet corner bolt hole, so how about a new seasonal one ?smile
Just a little spot to come and visit from time to time and re-charge batteries. Nothing heavy or serious ever happens in here, it's a place for bantering and smiling.
If it's a Grotto, maybe a few twinkly lights over the entrance? Plenty of squishy sofas for relaxing. I've left a plate of mince pies on the table and a flask of hot chocolate, so help yourselves.
Does anyone have any nice scented candles?

Have a great time with the family, Ariadne and say 'hello' to Gloucestershire for me.

Ariadne Wed 26-Dec-12 09:06:10

We're off on the road today! I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed being near DD and sharing everything about Christmas with her and her family - I am so glad that we moved.

Stop one is Hampshire to DS1 and the two youngest GSs - our special little boys. Then to Cheltenham tomorrow to DS2 and the two little GDs. there is an awful lot to pack into the car..complete family reunion there on Friday, which will be fantastic! DH is champing at the bit to get a new family photo.

I have not mentioned, I notice, my wonderful Ds-iL. But they are. Wonderful, I mean. I am truly blessed.

Wish it would stop raining, though!

Unexpectedly, it's a beautiful morning here. So it seems DS, DiL and dog, DD, SiL, DGD and dog are coming over so we can go for a walk. Wonderful! We weren't expecting to see them at all this year. So I'm now into the kitchen to make chicken and vegetable soups to pad out a lunch! Not complaining!

nfk I have had a much more relaxed day than expected little one didnt wake until 8am which is 1.5 hrs later than usual, which knocked everything back a bit but we just went with the flow not worth worrying over times! I received some perfect presents, spent time with some lovely people and had a surprise phone call from a very special friend so all in all it was a good day, but nice to sit down. smile your day seems to have gone well.

NfkDumpling Tue 25-Dec-12 22:59:31

Fared/faired much better than expected thanks Glass. Nice pressies, relaxing start, transporting dinner over to my mother's was easier than expected. Quiet afternoon and back in time for Dr Who and Downton.
Just time to pop in for a last quick glass. wine Cheers. How was your day?

Just made a last minute choccie log for the little'ies. Got one paper chain hanging from a single drawing pin which needs sorting out. Then just got to locate the pressies from various cupboards. And that's me done!

Happy Christmas everyone. smile

Ana Thanks for reminding us. The Quiet Corner holds happy memories for me. flowers

AlieOxon Mon 24-Dec-12 17:16:19

Quiet Cosy Corner?

NfkDumpling Mon 24-Dec-12 17:00:15

I forgot the Quiet Corner. Is there room for both?

NfkDumpling Mon 24-Dec-12 16:57:04

What's wrong with the Grotto? All the best stately homes have one. All year round use. Snug in winter, cool in summer it'll need an electrical connection though for the fridge.

I've really enjoyed peeping in occasionally. We've not got the family here for Christmas this year, just my mum. But now her legs have swollen up again and she can hardly move so we're having an intimate dinner this evening and taking a ready cooked one over to share with her tomorrow. It was lovely to be able to slip quietly into the grotto when I got back a little while ago.

Ana Mon 24-Dec-12 16:53:57

We already have a Quiet Corner...

Yes. Hey, I'm awake again! Hello all.

soop Mon 24-Dec-12 16:50:43

Cosy corner sounds perfect. smile

AlieOxon Mon 24-Dec-12 16:49:46

I used to live next to the Cosy Cafe!

Movedalot Mon 24-Dec-12 16:28:45

Cosy corner?

AlieOxon Mon 24-Dec-12 16:25:57

Zzzzzzzzzz...! How about the Den? Our Place?

Movedalot Mon 24-Dec-12 16:15:45

No notso let's find a nice cheerful name for it. smile. Things have been so much nicer on GN the last couple of weeks, it would be great if we could keep it up.

Perhaps some of you have suggestions?

Mine is The Hidey Hole but I am sure there are much better ideas.

Notsogrand Mon 24-Dec-12 16:10:36

In the New Year when the Grotto season is over, shall we change the name of this place to the Grotty? grin

AlieOxon Mon 24-Dec-12 16:08:06

Hope everyone is having a good Xmas Eve.....I'm not sure what I'm having. Wish I could have a vodka - a real one.

I was doing ok and relaxed, wrapping things and a last couple of cards to neighbours, then my DD rang - 'help, I didn't get the beer and cider yesterday (with the car) and I can't carry them'.....so I trailed out again and they are in the car boot still. Fool that I am.

Now all my energy has GONE! I would like to go back to sleep. So I came here instead. This is a nice sofa. Coffee, mincepies, and a real fire?

I shall wake up when my food is ready.

Ana Mon 24-Dec-12 15:50:50

Rushing around like idiots, probably, Moved - we're not all as super-organised as you! wink I've been doing a last-minute vacuum and will have to go and clean the basin in the downstairs loo as OH washes his oily hands in there after fixing car bits and it looks permanently grubby....shock

Movedalot Mon 24-Dec-12 15:27:37

Where are you all? It's lonely in here sad

Movedalot Mon 24-Dec-12 09:12:04

Just popping in for a bracing coffee before the challenge of the supermarket for the last few fresh things. Then back home to ice the biscuits and prepare tomorrow's veg! Don't tell me they are more nutritious done just before cooking, I know that, this is the only time in the year I do it!

Then setting the dining table for tomorrow, a shower and then its CHRISTMAS!

If I don't get back in later today I wish you all a very, very happy Christmas doing whatever gives you pleasure.

PS, have to collect tennis ball from a friend when we are out - don't ask! grin

kittylester Mon 24-Dec-12 08:46:11

Just popping in to say that I've had a great time recouping in here but will be really busy from now on. Hopefully the grotto won't dissolve before Boxing Day because I'm sure we could all do with a bit of relaxation by then.

Happy Christmas to you all - see you well it's all over. grin

glassortwo Mon 24-Dec-12 08:34:15

grin notso are you telling me you haven't got your sprouts on yet shock
