We don't know anything about the people on the other side, or even if there were any. 'We' are making assumptions based on very little information.

Besides, if it really was a trap, it looks as if 'the people on the other side' can look after themselves, if somewhat horribly.

I hate mindless vandalism, just can't see what anyone gets out of destroying other peoples property.

However I do admit to really enjoying a visit to the bottle bank, especially when it has been recently emptied. I always feel rather disappointed when it's full, and you have to sort of "wedge" the bottles in, without that rather satisfying pause followed by a resonating smashing noise!

My dad, an academic, thoroughly enjoyed removing a fireplace from a wall... sledgehammer, pickaxe. Mum was scathing but quite right that he wouldn't have wanted to do such work on a regular basis
